The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                     006:054

 

وَكَذٰلِكَ فَتَـنَّا بَعۡضَهُمۡ بِبَـعۡضٍ لِّيَـقُوۡلُـوۡۤا اَهٰٓؤُلَآءِ مَنَّ اللّٰهُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ مِّنۡۢ بَيۡنِنَا ؕ اَلَـيۡسَ اللّٰهُ بِاَعۡلَمَ بِالشّٰكِرِيۡنَ

 

Wa-ka-za-lay-ka-fa-tun-naa-bau-dzo-hoom-bay-bau-dzin                                                        Lay-ya-qoo-loo-aa-haa-o-laa-aiy                                                                                                  Mun-nul-laa-ho-alai-him-min-bai-nay-naa                                                                                 Aa-lai-sul-laa-ho-bay-au-la-ma-bish-shaa-kay-ree-n

 

And this is how We tested some of them with others                                                    So that they say, “Are these whom                                                                                Allah has favored from among us?”                                                                                      Is not Allah Well Aware of the grateful?

    

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • كَ — Ka — Like (= Identical; resembling; similar to the one stated in prior verse to. Take the example or similitude of)
  • ذٰلِكَ — Zaa-lay-ka — This is (= Here; refers to an aforesaid fact, person or statement; it’s because; right here; such is this; that is how it is. A/t/a, ‘in like manner,’ ‘in this manner,’ ‘in this way,’ ‘even so’ and (for the above three words jointly) ‘thus’ )
  • فَتَـن — Fa-tun — Tested (= v., past., pl., 1st person. Analyzed. Assayed. Checked. Examined. Investigated. Put on trial. Quizzed. Tried, A/t/a, ‘have made … means  for testing’ and ‘have … made a distinction.’ But ‘try’ in the present tense is no translation of the past tense in the Holy Qor-aan)
  • نَآ — Naa — Us (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our; Us. Used with God’s name this plural is the authoritative way a higher-up talks)
  • بَعۡضَ — Bau-dza — Some of (= A few, part, piece, fraction or portion of)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word  بِ  means with. A/t/a, ‘with,’ ‘by,’ ‘by comparison’ and ‘from the other’)
  • بَـعۡضٍ — Bau-dzin — Some (= A few, part, piece, fraction or portion of)
  • لِّ — Lay — So that (= For the object, person, purpose or reason of; intended for. A/t/a, ‘so that seeing them they should,’ ‘that’ and ‘with the result that’)
  • يَـقُوۡلُـوۡۤا — Ya-qoo-loo — They say (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Announce; argue; assert;  inform; maintain; observe; remark; profess; state; tell. A/t/a, ‘they may say,’ ‘they should say’ and ‘they may ask’)
  • اَ — Aa — Are (= Words asking a question like are, can, do, have, shell or will? A/t/a, ‘Is’)
  • هٰٓؤُلَآءِ — Haa-o-laa-aiy — These (= pl., All these. A/t/a, ‘these lowly ones,’ ‘it these,’ ‘it these (poor believers),’ ‘these the ones whom,’ ‘these they,’ ‘the ones’ and ‘these the men’)
  • مَنَّ — Mun-na — Favored (= v., past., s., 3rd person., Did a favor. Favored. Preferred. Treated kindly and nicely. Was specially gracious. A/t/a, ‘conferred benefit,’ ‘singled out for His favours,’ ‘has favoured,’ ‘has favoured (by choosing them)’ and ‘has been gracious to.’ But ‘whom … favours’ or ‘whom … favoureth’ in the present tense is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From among (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘amongst’)
  • بَيۡنِ — Bai-nay — Between (= Ahead, facing or in front of; Among; betwixt)
  • نَآ — Naa — Us (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our; us; we)
  • اَ — Aa — Is (= Word asks a question. See  اَ  above. A/t/a, ‘Doth,’ ‘Does’ and ‘But does’)
  • لَيۡسَ — Lai-sa … (ul) — Not (= Absolute denial; never; not at all; total negation)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with)
  • اَعۡلَمَ — Au-la-ma — Well Aware (= adj., To the nth degree … Aware, experienced, familiar, informed or knowing. Also, where the text indicates, as a v., pres., s., 1st person this word means I know more and best. A/t/a, ‘knows best,’ ‘know best,’ ‘best aware’ and ‘best know’)
  • بِ — Bay … (ish) — With (= Literally the word  بِ  means with. A/t/a, ‘who are’)
  • الشّٰكِرِيۡنَ‏ — Shaa-kay-ree-n — The grateful (= n., pl., Those who are appreciative, grateful or thankful. Those who use and utilize the God-Given-Gifts fully and appropriately. A/t/a, ‘thanksgivers’ and ‘the thankful’)
