وَاِذَا جَآءَكَ الَّذِيۡنَ يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ بِاٰيٰتِنَا فَقُلۡ سَلَمٌ عَلَيۡكُمۡ‌ كَتَبَ رَبُّكُمۡ عَلٰى نَفۡسِهِ الرَّحۡمَةَ‌ ۙ اَنَّهٗ مَنۡ عَمِلَ مِنۡكُمۡ سُوۡٓءًۢا بِجَهَالَةٍ ثُمَّ تَابَ مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِهٖ وَاَصۡلَحَۙ فَاَنَّهٗ غَفُوۡرٌ رَّحِيۡمٌ ‏

 

Wa-ezaa-jaa-aa-kul-la-zee-na-yoe-may-noo-na-bay-ayaa-tay-naa                                        Fa-qool-sa-laa-moon-alai-koom                                                                                                          Ka-ta-ba-rub-bo-koom-alaa-nuf-say-hir-rah-ma                                                                        Un-na-hoo-mun-aa-may-la-min-koom-bay-ja-haa-la-tin                                                        Thoom-ma-taa-ba-min-bau-day-he-wa-us-la-ha                                                                        Fa-in-na-hoo-gha-foo-roor-ra-hee-m

 

And when those who believe in our Signs come to you                                              Then you say, “Peace upon you.                                                                                        Your God wrote for Himself the Rule of mercy,                                                            So that whoever among you did an evil with ignorance                                                And turned repentant after it and reformed,                                                            Then He surely is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • اِذَا — Ezaa — When (= At the time or event; call to mind; recall; remember; think of the time, event, occasion or opportunity. Also, behold; consider; ponder over; reflect)
  • جَآءَ — Jaa-aa — Come (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Arrived; reached; returned. In different contexts the word can mean achieved, brought, delivered, settled or succeeded. A/t/a, ‘come’)
  • كَ — Ka … (ul) — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You single male. A/t/a, ‘thee’ and ‘unto thee.’ The addressee is the Holy Prophet s.a.w. See Note 002:005)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those articles, persons, or phenomenon or things in masculine gender. A/t/a, ‘those that’)
  • يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ — Yoe-may-noo-na — They Believe (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Enter faith; follow the Holy Qor-aan and Iss-laam and are Moslem. See Commentary Believe and Disbelieve. A/t/a, ‘believe.’ But ‘have believed’ in the past tense is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the present tense)
  • بِ — Bay — With  (= Literally the word بِ  means with. A/t/a, ‘in’)
  • اٰيٰتِ — Aa-ya-tay — Signs (= n., pl of … An argument, corroboration, indication,  insinuation, pointer, portent, prof, sign, suggestion, symbol or token. See Note 002:074. A/t/a, ‘revelations’ and ‘Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelation)’
  • نَآ — Naa –We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our; Us. Used with God’s name this plural is the authoritative way a higher-up talks)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= After all this; at the end; consequently; finally; hence; in conclusion; so; thereafter; therefore; thus)
  • قُلۡ — Qool — Say (= v., s, 2nd person. Admonish; announce, argue; assure; broadcast; call; command; convey; elaborate; explain; inform; insist; instruct; maintain, mandate; order; persist; preach; proclaim; profess; propagate; specify, state; teach, tell; train or tutor. See Notes 112:002 and Commentary ‘You say’ means …’ A/t/a, ‘greet them with’)
  • سَلَمٌ — Sa-laa-moon — Peace (= n. May peace be. Have peace. A/t/a, ‘Salamun Alaikum (peace be on you)’
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — Upon (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; on top of; over. A/t/a, ‘be,’ ‘unto,’ ‘be unto’ and ‘be upon’)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You all men. The Holy Qor-aan addresses men and women jointly this way generally.  A/t/a, ‘thee’)
  • كَتَبَ — Ka-ta-ba — Ordained (= v., past., s. 3rd person. Adopted; decreed; directed; imposed; mandated; made a rule; prescribed; reserved; settled; set up; taken. A/t/a, ‘inscribed,’ ‘ordained,’ ‘charged,’ ‘has taken it,’ ‘has written (prescribed),’ ‘decreed’ and ‘prescribed’)
  • رَبَّ — Rub-ba —The Lord God (= The Almighty Allah who fills all needs of all creatures; Cherisher; Creator; Guardian; Master; Lord Provident. The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You all men. See  كُمۡ  above)
  • عَلٰى — Alaa — Upon (= Above; against; before; during; for; on;  on top of; over)
  • نَفۡسِ — Nuf-say — Self (= n., s., An individual’s inner-most, heart, mind or soul;  A/t/a, ‘Himself’ and ‘Him’)
  • هِ — Hay … (ir) — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the aforesaid person)
  • الرَّحۡمَةَ‌ ۙ — Rah-ma — The Mercy (= n., The rule to give and show beneficence, clemency, compassion, condoning, forgiveness, intercession, intervention, kindness, leniency and omitting, relenting  or waiving punishment. A/t/a, ‘(the rule Of) mercy,’ ‘to show’ mercy’ and ‘mercy to you from Him’)
  • اَنَّ — Un-na — So that (= That. A/t/a, ‘so that if’ and ‘If’)
  • هٗ — Hoo — He (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the aforesaid person)
  • مَنۡ —  Mun — Whoever (= Anyone; whoever; whom; whomever; whoso. A/t/a, ‘whoever of you’ and ‘any one of you’)
  • عَمِلَ — Aa-may-la — Did (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Acted; committed; performed; practiced; worked. A/t/a, ‘does,’ ‘doth’ and ‘commits’ in the present tense is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= One of many; among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘of’)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You all men. See كُمۡ above)
  • سُوۡٓءًۢا — Soo-un — An evil (= n., s. A bad or evil act. Improper action. Wrong thing)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word  بِ  means with. but the context here warrants also to substitute it with an in. A/t/a, ‘through,’  ‘out of,’ ‘through’ and ‘in’)
  • جَهَالَةٍ — Ja-haa-la-tin — Ignorance (= n., s. By mistake. Without bad intent. A/t/a, ‘lack of knowledge’)
  • ثُمَّ — Thoom-ma — Then (= After that; further more; subsequently; thereafter. A/t/a, ‘and then’)

Repentance Requires Reformation is the rule. It’s repeated often. See Note 002:038.

  • تَابَ — Taa-ba — Turned repentant (= v., past., pl., m., 3rd person. Asked, begged and prayed to be excused, forgiven and pardoned. Expressed regret. Felt remorseful. Invoked compassion, kindness and mercy by admitting and confessing fault, guilt and sin.Turned repentant. See Note 002:038. A/t/a, ‘turns,’ ‘repents,’ ‘repenteth,’ ‘turns (for mercy towards his Lord)’ in the present tense is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has described in the past tense)
  • مِنۡ  — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class. See  مِنۡ  above)
  • بَعۡدِ — Bau-day — After (= Subsequent to; succeeding generations. A/t/a, (for this and the prior word) ‘thereafter’ and ‘afterward thereof’)
  • هٖ — He — It (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid evil act)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • اَصۡلَحَۙ — Us-la-ha — Reformed (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Ameliorated; amended; bettered. Brought about healthy, corrected, enriched, improved, and mended ways. Reorganized. Revolutionized. Set things right. Settled down. Upgraded. A/t/a, ‘repented and amended (His conduct).’ But ‘acts aright,’ ‘doeth right,’ ‘amends,’  ‘reforms,’ ‘mends his ways,’ ‘does righteous deeds’ and ‘does righteous good deeds (by obeying Allah)’ in the present tense’ is no translation of what the Holy has stated in the past tense)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= After all; at the end; finally; hence; thus. See   فَ  above. A/t/a, ‘then (his Lord forgives him because)’ and ‘he will find’)
  • اِنَّ — Un-na — Un-na –Surely (= Absolutely; clearly, decidedly. See اَنَّ above. A/t/a, ‘lo’ and ‘is’)
  • هٗ — Hoo — He (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
  • غَفُوۡرٌ —  Gha-foo-roo … (or) — Most Forgiving (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him is Who excuses, overlooks and pardons. See 001:001. A/t/a, ‘Most Forgiving,’ ’Forgiving,’ ‘All-Forgiving,’ ‘Oft-Forgiving’ and ‘Great Protector’)
  • رَّحِيۡمٌ — Ra-hee-m — Most Merciful (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him shows mercy again and again, continually, incessantly and indefinitely like endlessly and perpetually incoming waves from the oceans. Merciful Forever. See 001:001. A/t/a, ‘Most Merciful,’ ‘Ever Merciful,’ ‘Merciful’ and ‘All-merciful’)
