The Holy Qor-aan 006:056
وَكَذٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ الۡاٰيٰتِ وَلِتَسۡتَبِيۡنَ سَبِيۡلُ الۡمُجۡرِمِيۡنَ
Wa-ka-za-lay-ka-no-fus-say-lool-aa-yaa-tay Wa-la-tus-ta-buy-yun-na-sa-be-lool-mooj-ray-mee-n
And this is how We explain the signs. And you must now clearly show the way of the wrongdoers.
- وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
- كَ — Ka — Like (= Identical; resembling; similar to the one stated in prior verse to. Take the example or similitude of)
- ذٰلِكَ — Zaa-lay-ka — This is (= Here; refers to an aforesaid fact, person or statement; it’s because; right here; such is this; that is how it is. A/t/a, (for this and the prior word jointly) ‘thus’ and ‘This is how’)
- نُفَصِّلُ — No-fus-say-lo(ol) — We explain (= v., pres., pl, 1st person. Display. Elaborate. Expound. A/t/a, ‘we explain … in detail,’ ‘do We make distinct,’ ‘expound … so that truth may be proclaimed,’ ‘expound … that the truth may become manifest’[mgf], ‘expound … (that you may seek Allah’s mercy),’ ‘do We expound,’ ‘do We explain … in detail,’ ‘we expound’ and ‘We make plain’)
- الۡاٰيٰتِ — Aa-ya-tay — The Signs (= n., Arguments; corroborations; indications; insinuations; pointers; portents; signs; suggestions; symbols; tokens. See Note 002:074. A/t/a, ‘the Signs that you may seek forgiveness,’ ‘the messages,’ ‘the revelations,’ ‘Our Revelations,’ ‘arguments’ and ‘Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelation)’
- وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above)
- لِ — Lay — So that (= For the object, person, purpose or reason of; intended for; meant for; on account of; concerning; regarding; relative to. A/t/a, ‘so that’ and ‘that’)
- تَسۡتَبِيۡنَ — Tus-ta-buy-yun-na — You show (= v., pres., s., 2nd person. Show with clear, convincing, explanatory, irrefutable, veritable and sure signs. See Note 006:056 below)
- سَبِيۡلُ — Sa-bee-lo … (ol) — Way (= n., Course; lines; path; road; way. See Note 004:089)
- الۡمُجۡرِمِيۡنَ — Mooj-ray-mee-n — Wrongdoers (= n., Those who have committed crimes. Criminals. A/t/a, ‘sinners,’ ‘guilty,’ ‘who cut their ties (with God),’ ‘the unrighteous,’ ‘of the wicked’ and ‘Mujrimun (criminals, polytheists, sinners)’
Note 006:056. The Derivates of the Roots in Chapter ( باب = Baab ) استفعال (Is-tuf-aa-l) mean to ask, go about, have, must, need, seek, want or wish to do something. One distinctive feature of these derivates is that their first letter is ي (yay) or ا (aliph) for 3rd person, ت (tay) for 2nd person, and ن (noon) or ا (aliph) for 1st person.

The best translation of the word تَسۡتَبِيۡنَ (Tus-ta-buy-yun-na in the active voice) is like other derivates used in the Holy Qor-aan, Thus the verse says, “And this is how We explain the signs, and you (must now) clearly show the way of the criminals.”
Other translations are based upon construing the word تَسۡتَبِيۡنَ (Tus-ta-buy-yun-na) as if it were in the passive voice as follows. Abdullah Yusuf Ali said: ”May be shown up.” A R Omar and Dr Ahmad Zidan said: “may be exposed.” M Muhammad Ali and Malik Ghulam Farid said: “may become clear.” M Mumaduke Pickthall said: “may be manifest.” N J Dawood said: “may be laid bare.” Maulawi Sher Ali, M Zafrulla Khan, M Mohsin Khan and Taqi-uddin Al-Hilali said: “may become manifest.”
