قُلۡ اِنِّىۡ نُهِيۡتُ اَنۡ اَعۡبُدَ الَّذِيۡنَ تَدۡعُوۡنَ مِنۡ دُوۡنِ اللّٰهِ‌ؕ  قُلْ لَّاۤ اَ تَّبِعُ اَهۡوَآءَكُمۡ‌ۙ  قَدۡ ضَلَلۡتُ اِذًا وَّمَاۤ اَنَا مِنَ الۡمُهۡتَدِيۡنَ

Qool-in-nee-no-he-to-un-au-bo-dool-la-zee-na                                                                          Tud-oo-na-min-do-nil-laa-hay                                                                                                            Qool-laa-ut-ta-bay-o-ah-waa-o-koom                                                                                                Qud-dzul-lul-to-aiy-zun                                                                                                                          Wa-maa-aa-na-may-nul-moh-ta-dee-n

 

Say, “I am surely prohibited that I worship those who                                                  You pray to other than Allah.”                                                                                                Say, “I do not follow your fancies                                                                                        For then I would surely be lost                                                                                              And I won’t be from among the rightly Guided.”

 

  • قُلۡ — Qool — Say (= v., s, 2nd person. Announce; command; convey; explain; inform; insist; instruct; maintain; mandate; order; state; preach; proclaim; profess; teach; tell. See Commentary “You say’ means ….’ A/t/a, ‘say,’ ‘say (O Muhammad s.a.w)’ and ‘Proclaim, O Prophet’)
  • اِنۡ — In — Surely (= Absolutely; certainly; definitely; positively; verily)
  • ىَ — Ee — I (= pro., s., 1st person. I; me; my)
  • نُهِيۡتُ — No-he-to — I am prohibited (= v., past., pass., s., 1st person. Forbidden. Prevented. Restricted. A/t/a, ‘am forbidden,’ ‘have been forbidden’  and ‘am strictly forbidden’)
  • اَنۡ — Un — That (= So that)
  • اَعۡبُدَ — Au-bo-da … (ul) — I worship (= v., pres., s., 1st person. Bow down in obedience. A/t/a, ‘to worship’  and ‘to serve’)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those articles, persons, or phenomenon or things in masculine gender. A/t/a, ‘those,’ ‘whom’ and ‘those on whom’)
  • تَدۡعُوۡنَ — Tud-oo-na — You pray (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Call for help; pray; seek help. A/t/a, ‘you call,’ ‘ye call,’ ‘ye Call upon,’ ‘you call upon,’ ‘the false gods on whom you call,’ ‘False gods whom you call upon,’ ‘the gods whom you invoke,’  ‘you invoke (worship)’ and ‘you invoke’)
  • مِنۡ دُوۡنِ — Min-do-n(il) — From other than (= Combination of two words. The first word مِنۡ (min) means among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kinds, things or person. The second word دُوۡنِ (do-nay) means besides, beyond, except, excluding or save. Jointly the two words mean apart from, exclusive of, other than, instead of, in place of, in preference to, rather than, to the exclusion of. A/t/a, ‘besides,’ ‘beside’ and ‘instead of)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • قُلۡ  — Qool — Say (= v., s, 2nd person. Announce. Assert; See قُلۡ above. A/t/a, ‘and say to them’)
  • لَّاۤ — Laa — Do not (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception)
  • اَ تَّبِعُ — Ut-ta-bay-o — I follow (= v., pres., s., 1st person. Accept religion. Adopt lifestyle.   Act upon, carry out, copy, duplicate, immolate, obey, pursue, replicate or support the assigned, enforced, given, laid out, mandated or prohibited act, command, course or line of action, direction, instruction, mandate, order, task or way. Fall in rank behind and yield to.  A/t/a, ‘I will … follow’ and ‘I will … yield’)
  • اَهۡوَآءَ– Ah-waa-aa — Fancies (= n., pl., Desires; evil or low desires; wants; whims; wishes; will. A/t/a, ‘desires,’ ‘vain desires,’ ‘low desires,’ ‘evil inclinations’and ‘caprices’)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — Your (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You all men. The Holy Qor-aan addresses men and women jointly this way generally)
  • قَدۡ — Qud — Surely (= This word lays emphasis like very definitely; surely. See Note 004:049 and our Commentary titled the “2 Words of Emphasis used together Multiply Effect.” A/t/a, ‘if I did,’ ‘certainly’ and ‘for then’)
  • ضَلَلۡتُ — Dzul-lul-to — I would be lost (= v., pres., s., 1st person. Gone astray. Lost the way. A/t/a, ‘I would be lost,’ ‘I would astray From the path,’ ‘I should go astray,’ ‘should I go astray,’ ‘I shall become lost,’ ‘I shall have gone astray,’ ‘I would have certainly become lost,’ ‘I should have gone astray,’ ‘I should have strayed’ and ‘I would go astray’)
  • اِذًا — Aiy-zun — Then (= At that time. In that case. When. A/t/a, ‘If I did’ and ‘In that case’)
  • وَّ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — Not (= Never, no; none; not)
  • اَنَا — Aa-na — I (= pro., s. 1st person. I. Me. A/t/a, ‘I … be,’ ‘I …  should … be,’ ‘and would … be,’ ‘I shall … be,’ ‘I would … have been,’ ‘I would … be’)
  • مِنَ — May-nul — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘from,’ ‘of the company,’ ‘of the,’ ‘of ’ and ‘one of the’)
  • الۡمُهۡتَدِيۡنَ — Moh-ta-dee-n — The rightly guided (= n., pl. Those on the right path. A/t/a, ‘the guided,’ ‘those Who receive guidance,’ ‘guided ones’ and ‘the right path’)
