The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                              006:084

 

وَتِلۡكَ حُجَّتُنَاۤ اٰتَيۡنٰهَاۤ اِبۡرٰهِيۡمَ عَلٰى قَوۡمِهٖ‌  ؕ نَرۡفَعُ دَرَجٰتٍ مَّنۡ نَّشَآءُ  ‌ؕ اِنَّ رَبَّكَ حَكِيۡمٌ عَلِيۡمٌ

 

Wa-til-ka-hoo-ja-to-naa-aa-tai-naa-ib-ra-he-ma-alaa-qao-may-he                                        Nur-fa-o-da-ra-jaa-tin-mun-na-shaa-o                                                                                            In-na-rub-ba-ka-ha-kee-moo-n-alee-moo-n

 

And Our this argument We gave Abraham against his people.                              We exalt the ranks of whoever We chose.                                                                          Your God surely is the Wisest, Most Knowing.

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • تِلۡكَ — Til-ka — This (= All that’s mentioned, stated or told. Those ‘shown, specified or stated right here. A/t/a, ‘What was the,’ ‘That was,’ ‘this was,’ ‘that is’ and ‘Such was’)
  • حُجَّتُ — Hooj-ja-ta — Argument (= n., Excuse; proof; reason. A/t/a, ‘reasoning about’)
  • نَآ — Naa — Our (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our; Us. Used with God’s name this plural is the authoritative way a higher-up talks)
  • اٰتَيۡ — Aa-tai — Gave (= v., past., m., pl., 2nd person. Delivered; gifted; granted; had given; handed down; handed over; paid; presented; remitted. Also. awarded; bestowed; conferred; laid out. See 002:178.  A/t/a, ‘furnished’ and ‘equipped’)
  • نَآ  — Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our; Us. See  نَآ  above)
  • اِبۡرٰهٖمَ — Ib-raa-he-ma — Abraham (= The name of a Messenger / Prophet of Allah. A/t/a, ‘to Abraham (To use)’ and ‘on Abraham’)
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — Against (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; on top of; over)
  • قَوۡمٍ — Qao-min — People (= n., s., Addressees; attendees; fellows; followers; folks; nation; party; people; tribe. A/t/a, ‘folk’)
  • هٖ  — He — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to Abraham)
  • نَرۡفَعُ — Nur-fa-o  — We exalt (= v., pres., pl., 1st person. Elevate, exalt, lift, place or raise above from a prior set, stage or status. God’s action relative to man as stated in Note 003:056 and verses 004:159 and 006:084. A/t/a, ‘We raise’ and ‘exalted’)
  • دَرَجٰتٍ‌ — Da-ra-jaa-tin — In ranks (= Degrees; grades or lofty statuses of honor and ranks of. A/t/a, ‘Degree after degree,’ ‘in degrees,’ ‘in degrees of rank,’ ‘in ranks,’ ‘unto  degrees of wisdom,’ ‘up in degrees’ an ‘on an exalted rank’)
  • مَنۡ — Mun — Whoever (= Anyone; whoever; whom; whoso; whomever. A/t/a, ‘whomso’)
  • نَّشَآءُ — Na-shaa-o — We choose (= v., pres., s., 1st person. Allow; approve; choose; decide; decree; design; determine; dictate;  elect; enforce; like; permit; plan; please; prefer; select; sanction; will. The meanings ‘desire, want or wish’ do not apply relative to God Almighty Who has all control, power and will to implement instantly what He intends. A/t/a, ‘We please’  and ‘We will’)
  • اِنَّ — In-na — Certainly (= Absolutely; clearly, decidedly; definitely; doubtlessly; indeed; positively; really; surely; truly; verily. A/t/a, ‘Lo’ )
  • رَبَّ — Rub-ba —  God, The Provider (= The Almighty Allah who fills all needs of all His creatures; Creator; Master; One Who Sustain; The Lord provident; The Ultimate Provider of Air, water, food and whatever we need to live and subsist)
  • كَ — Ka — Your (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You one man. The addressee of this divine message is initially the Holy Prophet s.a.w.  See Note 002:005. A/t/a, ‘thy’)  
  • حَكِيۡمٌ — Ha-kee-moo-n — The Wisest (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him is Wise.  All-Wise. Exalted in Wisdom. Extremely shrewd. Full and Possessor of wisdom. See Note 001:001. A/t/a, ‘Lord is  full Of wisdom,’ ‘All-Wise’ and ‘Wise’)
  • عَلِيۡمٌ‏ — A-leem — Most Knowing (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him knows. See Note 001:001. Informed to the maximum. The One with the total. knowledge and nothing out of sight. Knows all.  Most Knowledgeable. Well-Acquainted. Well-Aware. A/t/a, ‘Knowing,’ ‘All-Knowing,’ ‘all-knowing,’ ‘full of …  knowledge’ and ‘Aware’)
