The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                              006:089

 

ذٰ لِكَ هُدَى اللّٰهِ يَهۡدِىۡ بِهٖ مَنۡ يَّشَآءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِهٖ  ‌ؕ  وَلَوۡ اَشۡرَكُوۡا لَحَبِطَ عَنۡهُمۡ مَّا كَانُوۡا يَعۡمَلُوۡنَ

 

Zaa-lay-ka-ho-dul-laa-hay-yah-de-bay-he                                                                                      Mun-ya-shaa-o-min-ebaa-day-he                                                                                                    Wa-lao-ush-ra-koo-la-ha-bay-ta-un-hoom                                                                                      Maa-kaa-noo-yau-ma-loo-n

 

This is Allah’s guidance. He guides with it                                                                          Whomever He chooses from among His servants.                                                          And if they set up partners, surely wasted from them                                                    Would be all that they have been practicing.

 

  • ذٰلِكَ — Zaa-lay-ka — This is (= Here; refers to an aforesaid fact, person or statement; it’s because; right here; such is this; that is how it is. A/t/a, ‘That is’ and ‘Such is’)
  • هُدَى — Ho-daa … (ul) — Guidance (= n., The action, direction, instruction, means or set up to show the best beacon, correct course, enlightened entry, linear lines, proper path, right road, wise ways or  the knowledge about what is most appropriate)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • يَهۡدِىۡ — Yauh-de — He guides (= v., pres., m., s., 3rd person. He directs the best way; gives good guidance; provides opportunities with appropriate directions; leads on level linier lines; puts on proper path. Shows sure success. Also, avoids evil to enable man reach his noble aims, goals and objects. A/t/a, ‘He giveth That guidance,’ ‘He guideth’ and ‘He bestows’)
  • بِ  — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with. A/t/a, ‘by.’ Some authors have translated this and the next word together as ‘wherewith,’ ‘whereby’ and ‘thereby’)
  • هٖ — He — It (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the guidance)
  • مَنۡ — Mun — Whomever (= Anyone; whoever; whom; whomever; whoso. A/t/a, ‘those of … whom,’ ‘such of’ and ‘whosoever’)
  • يَّشَآءُ –Ya-shaa-o — He chooses (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Decides; decrees; desires; destinies; dictates; likes; mandates; orders; pleases; prefers; rules; selects; wants; wills. A/t/a, ‘He pleaseth’ and ‘He will’)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From among (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘of’)
  • عِبَادِ — E-baa-day — Servants (= n., pl., Believers who worship earnestly; bondsmen; obedient people; servants; slaves; subservient; supplicants; worshipers. A/t/a,  ‘worshippers’ and  ‘slaves’)
  • هٖ — He — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • لَوۡ — Lao — If (= In case; under the circumstances; wish; would. A/t/a, ‘Had they’ and ‘if they had’)
  • اَشۡرَكُوۡۤا– Ush-ra-koo — They set up (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Alleged, asserted, attributed any partners to the Almighty God. They worshipped any deity, god or thing besides One God. See Note 004:037. A/t/a, ‘had associated others (with Him), ‘they were to join other gods with,’ ‘worshipped aught besides Him,’ ‘associated aught with Allah,’ ‘had worshipped,’ ‘set up (for worship),’ ‘associated partners with Him,’  ‘associated partners (with Him in their worship),’ ‘they served other gods besides Him’ and ‘if they had joined in worship others with Allah’)
  • لَ — La — Certainly (= Absolutely; assuredly; categorically; clearly, definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; positively; really; truly; seriously; sincerely; specifically; surely; verily)
  • حَبِطَ — Ha-bay-ta — Wasted (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Amounted to nothing. Became vain. Came to naught. Fell to waste. Turned fruitless. Were destroyed, lost, ruined or, spoiled. A/t/a, ‘would be vain,’ ‘would have been vain,’ ‘would have gone in vain,’  ‘would have been of no avail’ and ‘would have  been of no benefit to them’)
  • عَنۡ — Un — From (= About; concerning; regarding; relative to. A/t/s, ‘to’ and ‘aught beside’)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • مَّا — Maa — All that (= What; whatever; whatsoever; at such time; when)
  • كَانُوۡۤا — Kaa-noo — They have been (= v., past., pl., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; had been went on; were doing. Words has or had always been indicate endless continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future; used to)
  • يَعۡمَلُوۡنَ — Yau-la-moo-n — They practicing (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. This word includes doing the same thing again and again continually. Also, act, do, execute, exercise, implement, operate, perform or work. See Note 002:075b.  A/t/a, ‘did,’ ‘do,’            ‘their deeds’ and ‘their labours’)
