The Holy Qor-aan 006:109
وَلَا تَسُبُّوا الَّذِيۡنَ يَدۡعُوۡنَ مِنۡ دُوۡنِ اللّٰهِ فَيَسُبُّوا اللّٰهَ عَدۡوًاۢ بِغَيۡرِ عِلۡمٍ ؕ كَذٰلِكَ زَيَّنَّا لِكُلِّ اُمَّةٍ عَمَلَهُمۡ ثُمَّ اِلٰى رَبِّهِمۡ مَّرۡجِعُهُمۡ فَيُنَبِّئُهُمۡ بِمَا كَانُوۡا يَعۡمَلُوۡنَ
Wa-laa-ta-soob-bool-la-zee-na-yud-oo-na-min-do-nil-laa-hay Fa-ya-soob-bool-laa-ha-aa-doo-wun-bay-ghai-ray-il-min Ka-zaa-lay-ka-zuy-yun-naa-lay-kool-lay-oom-ma-tin-aa-ma-la-hoom Thoom-ma-elaa-rub-bay-him-mur-jay-o-hoom Fa-yo-nub-bay-o-hoom-bay-maa-kaa-noo-yau-ma-loo-n
And do not scorn those who call upon things other than Allah Lest they then scorn Allah in enmity without knowledge. This is how We have beautified for all people their work. Then their return is to their Lord Provident Then He will inform them of what they were practicing.
- وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
- لَا — Laa — Do not (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception)
- تَسُبُّوا — Ta-soob-boo(la) — You scorn (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Abuse; belittle; berate; censure; condemn; deride; despise; disdain; disparage; disrespect; humiliate; insult; mock; ridicule. A/t/a, ‘revile … ye’ and ‘Revile’)
- ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those articles, persons, or phenomenon or things in masculine gender. A/t/a, ‘those … whom,’ ‘those whom,’ ‘that which’ and ‘which’)
- يَدۡعُونَ — Yud-oo-na — They call (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Address; appeal; beg; beseech; call on or upon; draw attention; invite; invoke; plead; pray; request. A/t/a, ‘call upon’ and ‘they (disbelievers) worship’)
- مِنۡ دُوۡنِ — Min-do-n(il) — From other than (= Combination of two words. The first word مِنۡ (min) means among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kinds, things or person. The second word دُوۡنِ (do-nay) means besides, beyond, except, excluding or save. Jointly the two words mean apart from, exclusive of, other than, instead of, in place of, in preference to, rather than, to the exclusion of. A/t/a, ‘besides’ and ‘beside’)
- اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
- فَ — Fa — Then (= After all this; at the end; consequently; finally; hence; in conclusion; so; thereafter; therefore; thus. A/t/a, ‘lest’ and ‘or’)
- يَسُبُّوا — Ya-soob-boo(la) — They scorn (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Abuses. See تَسُبُّوا above. A/t/a, ‘they abuse,’ ‘they .. abuse,’ ‘They … revile,’ ‘they should revile,’ ‘they should … revile,’ ‘they will insult’ and ’they insult’)
- ٱللَّهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
- عَدُوًّا — Aa-doo-won — In enmity (= Adv., With animosity, enmity, grudge or hostility. A/t/a, ‘out of spite,’ ‘exceeding the limits,’ ‘wrongfully,’ ‘in … revenge,’ ‘spitefully’ and transgressingly’)
The text in the next couple of words is repeated in 006;109 and 006:120
- بِغَيۡرِ — Bay-ghai-ray — Without (= Separately the word بِ means with and غَيۡرِ means out of, other or else. The combination means without. A/t/a, ‘through’ and ‘lack of’)
- عِلۡمٍ — Il-min — Knowledge (= n., Awareness; experience; expertise; familiarity with facts; intellect; intelligence know-how; power of mind; solid information accumulated based upon wisdom; intelligence, perfect knowledge, total awareness and appropriate instruction. A/t/a, in ‘ignorance’ and as ‘ignorant’)
- كَ — Ka — Like (= Identical; resembling; similar to the one stated earlier. Take the example or similitude of. A/t/a, ‘just as’)
- ذٰلِكَ — Zaa-lay-ka — This is (= Here; refers to an aforesaid fact, person or statement. A/t/a, ‘Thus’)
- زَيَّ — Zuy-yun — Beautified (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Made or turned to appear fair seeming, attractive, beautiful, captivating, charming, covetous, decorative, desirable, enchanting, enticing, look good, lucrative, luring, nice or tempting. A/t/a, ‘made alluring,’ ‘made fair-seeming,’ ‘have … caused to seem fair,’ ‘made … seem fair,’ ‘made their deeds fair-seeming to them so have We made to each people fair-seeming what they do’ and ‘have planned’)
- نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our; Us. Used with God’s name this plural is the authoritative way a higher-up talks)
- لِ — Lay — For (= For the object, person, purpose or reason of; intended for; meant for; on account of; concerning; regarding; relative to A/t/a, ‘unto’)
- كُلِّ — Kool-lay — Every (= n., All; altogether; everyone; everything without any exception; in every manner; total; very much; whole. A/t/a, ‘each’)
- اُمَّةٍ — Oom-ma-tin — People (= Community; group; large body; nation. A/t/a, ‘all men’)
- عَمَلَ — Aa-ma-la — Work (= n., s., Act; action; deed, doing; effort; hard work; performance, practice, rendition; work. A/t/a, ‘doing’ and ‘conduct.’ Some authors have translated this singular word into a plural as ‘doings,’ ‘deeds’ and ‘actions’)
- هُمۡ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs. A/t/a, ‘own’)
- ثُمَّ — Thoom-ma — Then (= After that; further more; subsequently; thereafter. A/t/a, ‘Then’ and ‘In the end’ )
- اِلَى — Elaa — To (= In the direction of; to; towards. A/t/a, ‘unto’)
- رَبِّ — Rub-bay — Lord Provident (= The Almighty Allah who fills all needs of all His creatures. Cherisher. Creator. Guardian. Lord Provident. Master. The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist)
- هِمۡ — Him — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
- مَّرۡجِعُ — Mur-jay-o — Return (= n., Come back; reversal. A/t/a, ‘will they Return,’ ‘shall they return’ and ‘shall return’)
- هُمۡ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
- فَ — Fa — Then (= After all this; at the end; consequently; finally; hence; in conclusion; so; thereafter; therefore; thus)
- يُنَبِّئُ — Yo-nub-bay-o — He will tell (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Bring to notice; inform; make aware; spell out; tell. A/t/a, ‘He will inform,’ ‘He will declare to’ and ‘He shall … inform.’ But author A Yusuf Ali used 1st person in translating this word as ‘We shall … Tell … the truth’ although the Holy Qor-aan described this act of Almighty God with a word in the 3rd person)
- هُمۡ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
- بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ means with. A/t/a, ‘Of’)
- مَاۤ — Maa — All that (= What; whatever; whatsoever; at such time; when. A/t/a, ‘that which,’ ‘as to what’ and ‘what’)
- كَانُوۡۤا — Kaa-noo — They were (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; used to; went on; were doing. Words has or had always been indicate endless continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. A/t/a, ‘they used to’ and ‘they have’)
- يَعۡمَلُون — Yau-ma-loon — They practicing (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. This word includes doing the same thing again and again continually. Also, act, do, execute, exercise, implement, operate, perform or work. See Note 002:075b. A/t/a, ‘do,’ ‘doing’ and ‘they were doing,’ But ‘they did’ and ‘done’ in the past tense is not a good translation of the text of the Holy Qor-aan stated in the present tense)
