The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                               006:112

 

وَلَوۡ اَنَّـنَا نَزَّلۡنَاۤ اِلَيۡهِمُ الۡمَلٰٓٮِٕكَةَ وَكَلَّمَهُمُ الۡمَوۡتٰى وَ حَشَرۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ كُلَّ شَىۡءٍ قُبُلًا مَّا كَانُوۡا لِيُؤۡمِنُوۡۤا اِلَّاۤ اَنۡ يَّشَآءَ اللّٰهُ وَلٰـكِنَّ اَكۡثَرَهُمۡ يَجۡهَلُوۡنَ

Wa-lao-un-na-naa-nuz-zul-naa-elai-hay-mool-ma-laa-aiy-ka-ta                                        Wa-kul-la-ho-mool-mao-taa                                                                                                            Wa-ha-shur-naa-alai-him-kool-la-shai-in-ko-bo-lun                                                                Maa-kaa-noo-lay-yoe-may-noo-il-laa-un-ya-shaa-ul-laa-ho                                                      Wa-laa-kin-na-uk-tha-ra-hoom-yuj-ha-loo-n

 

And surely if We had sent down to them angels,                                                          And all the dead had talked to them,                                                                                And We had gathered in front of them everything,                                                      They still would not believe unless Allah wills.                                                                But most of them act ignorantly.   

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • لَوۡ — Lao — If (= In case; under the circumstances; wish; would. A/t/a, ‘even if’ and ‘though’)
  • اَ نَّ — Un-na — Surely (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; indeed; positively; really surely; truly; verily)
  • نَزَّلۡ — Nuz-zul — Sent down (= v., past., 1st person. Caused to descend. Dropped. Gave. A/t/a, ‘send down’ and ‘should send down’ in the present tense which is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has described in the past tense)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our; Us. Used with God’s name this plural is the authoritative way a higher-up talks)
  • اِلَيۡ — E-lai — On (= In the direction of; to; towards. A/t/a, ‘unto’ and ‘to’)
  • هِمُ — Hay-mo … (ol) — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • الۡمَلٰٓٮِٕكَةَ — Ma-laa-aiy-ka-ta — Angels (= n., pl., The immortal beings in attendance of Almighty God who execute His commands and do no wrong)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • كَلَّمَ — Kul-la-ma — Talked (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Announced, broadcast, called,  conversed, discussed, revealed, spoke or verbalized by a direct speech. Also, assigned, commanded, decreed, dictated, directed, inspired, ordered by delivering or giving a message, proof, scripture or signs. A/t/a, ‘had spoken,’ ‘spoke’ and caused …  to speak.’ But ‘should speak’ and ‘speak’ in the present tense is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
  • هُمُ —  Ho-mo..(ol) — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs. A/t/a, ‘unto them’)
  • الۡمَوۡتٰى — (Ol)-Mao-taa — The dead (= n. Those who have been dead and have no life)
  • وَ  —   Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • حَشَرۡ — Ha-shur — Gathered (= v., past., 1st person. Amassed; assembled; collected; grouped; marshaled; mobilized; mustered. A/t/a, ‘gathered,’ ‘gathered together’ and ‘ranged.’ But ‘gather,’ ‘bring together,’ ‘bring … together’ and ‘should gather … in array’ in the present tense is not a translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
  • نَآ —  Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our; Us. See  نَآ  above)
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — On (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; on top of; over. A/t/a, ‘to’)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • كُلَّ — Kool-la — Every (= adv., All; altogether; everyone; everything without any  exception; in every manner; total; very much; whole. A/t/a, ‘all’)
  • شَىۡءٍ — Shai-in — Thing (= Anything at all however little or insignificant. A whit. Not the least. Smallest part of an article, item, object, something or somewhat. A/t/a, ‘things’ and ‘the things of the world’)
  • قُبُلًا — Qo-bo-lun — In front of (= In front of. A/t/a, ‘before,’ ‘before … face to face’ and ‘before Their very eyes’ )
  • مَّا — Maa — Not (= Never; no; not; not at all)
  • كَانُوۡۤا — Kaa-noo — Have been (= v., past., pl., m., 3rd person. Continued doing; used to; went on; were doing. Words has or had always been indicate endless continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. A/t/a, ‘they would … still’ and ‘they would’)
  • لِ — Lay — For (= For the object, purpose or reason of; intended for)
  • يُؤۡمِنُوۡا — Yoe-may-noo — They believe (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Believe in the Holy Qor-aan; become Moslem; enter Iss-laam. See Commentary Believe and Disbelieve. A/t/a, ‘they are … The ones to believe.’ But ‘believed’ in the past tense is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the present tense)
  • اِلَّاۤ — Il-laa — Unless (= Nothing but; saving)
  • اَنۡ — Un — That (= That)
  • يَّشَآءَ — Ya-shaa-a — He wills (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Chooses; decides; decrees; desires, destines, dictates; directs; likes, mandates, orders, pleases; prefers; rules; selects; wants; wills. A/t/a, ‘it is in … plan’ and ‘please.’ But ‘pleased,’ ‘had so willed,’  ‘willed,’ ‘enforced Hi will’ and ‘had (enforced) His will’ in the past tense is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the present tense)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • وَ  —  Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above. A/t/a, ‘But’ )
  • لٰـكِنۡ — Laa-kin — But (= However; instead; nevertheless; yet. A/t/a, ‘Howbeit’  and ‘The thing is that’)
  • اَكۡثَرَ — Uk-tha-ra — Most of (= Greater or large number; majority; mostly)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • يَجۡهَلُوۡنَ  — Yauj-ha-loo-n — Act ignorantly (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Act, behave, play, pretend or project being ignorant. A/t/a, ‘behave ignorantly,’ ‘Ignore (the truth)’ and ‘persist in ignorance.’ But the nouns in ‘ignorant men’ and ‘ignorant’ are no translation of the verb that the Holy Qor-aan has used)
