فَلَمَّا نَسُوۡا مَا ذُكِّرُوۡا بِهٖ فَتَحۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ اَبۡوَابَ كُلِّ شَىۡءٍ ؕ حَتّٰٓى اِذَا فَرِحُوۡا بِمَاۤ اُوۡتُوۡۤا اَخَذۡنٰهُمۡ بَغۡتَةً فَاِذَا هُمۡ مُّبۡلِسُوۡنَ‏

 

Fa-lum-maa-na-soo-maa-zook-kay-roo-bay-he                                                                              Fa-tah-naa-alai-him-ub-waa-ba-kool-lay-shay-in                                                                        Hut-ta-ezaa-fa-ray-hoo-bay-maa-oo-too                                                                                      Aa-khuz-naa-hoom-bugh-ta-ton-fa-ezaa-hoom-moob-lay-soo-n

 

So surely when they forgot with what they were reminded                                          We opened on them the doors of everything,                                                                    Until when they became ecstatic with what they were given                                        We caught them suddenly and then they were in depression.

 

  • فَ — Fa — Then (= After all this; at the end; consequently; finally; hence; so; thereafter; therefore; thus. A/t/a, ‘But’)
  • لَمَّا — Lum-maa — Surely when (= This combines two words. The first word لَ (=la) means absolutely, certainly, positively, surely, truly or verily. The second word ما  (= maa) means at such time, when and whenever. A/t/a, ‘Say’)
  • نَسُوۡا — Na-soo — They forgot (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Became ignorant or oblivious. A/t/a, ‘they forgot (the warning),’ ‘they neglected,’ ‘they abandoned’ and ‘clean forgotten’)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — All that (= What; whatever; whatsoever; at such time; when. A/t/a, ‘warning,’ ‘that with which,’ ‘with which,’ that whereof’ and ‘the admonition’)
  • ذُكِّرُوۡا — Zook-kay-roo — Were reminded (= v., past., pass., pl., 3rd person. Directed to remember; instructed to recall; brought in active memory; told. A/t/a, ‘they had been reminded,’ ‘they had been admonished,’ ‘they had been given’ and ‘they had received.’  But the noun in ‘Our admonition’ is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has described with a verb)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word  بِ  means with)
  • هٖ — He — It (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the aforesaid thing)
  • فَتَحۡ — Fa-tah — Opened (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Disclosed; laid bare; informed; revealed; shown; told; unfolded; won with victory. A/t/a, ‘bestowed’ and ‘granted’)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our; Us. Used with God’s name this is the authoritative way a higher-up talks)
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — On (= Above; against; before; for; on; on top of; over. A/t/a, ‘for,’ ‘upon.’  ‘unto’ and ‘to’)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • اَبۡوَابَ — Ub-waa-ba — Doors (= n., pl., Doors; entrances; entry ways; gates. A/t/a, ‘the abundance of’)
  • كُلِّ — Kool-lay — Every (= n., All; altogether; everyone; everything without any exception; in every manner; total; very much; whole. A/t/a, ‘all’ and ‘Of all (good).’ For this and the next word ‘everything’ and ‘every (pleasant) thing’)
  • شَىۡءٍ  — Shai-in — Thing (= n., s., Anything at all however little or insignificant. A whit. Smallest part of an article, item, object, material, thing, matter, type, phenomenon or stuff. To the least extent. Also, Some, something or somewhat. A/t/a, ‘things’ and ‘they desired’)
  • حَتّٰى — Hut-ta — Until (= By the end of the period or term; till the time. A/t/a, ‘till’)
  • اِذَا — Ezaa — When (= At the time or event; call to mind; recall; remember; think of the time, event, occasion or opportunity. A/t/a, ‘when,’ ‘even as,’ ‘but just as’ and ‘in the midst of’)
  • فَرِحُوۡا — Fa-ray-hoo — Became ecstatic (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Euphoric. Gleeful. Jubilant. Joyous. Rapturous. Celebrated fun, overjoyed, rejoiced, were merry making or very happy. A/t/a, ‘they became exultant,’ ‘they were in a state of exultation,’ ‘Of their enjoyment,’ ‘they were rejoicing,’ ‘they rejoiced’ and ‘they began to boast’)
  • بِمَا — Bay-maa — With what (= Combination of two words. بِ  means ‘with / in’ and  مَاۤ means all that, whatever, whatsoever or whenever. The combination بِمَا  (bay-maa) means ‘because of; on account of; for the reason; due to; with / in all that. A/t/a, ‘over that which,’ ‘in that which,’ ‘at what,’ ‘in what’ and over what’)
  • اُوۡتُوۡۤا — Oo-too — They were given (= v., past., pass., pl., 3rd person. Awarded; bestowed; conferred; entrusted; gifted; granted; made responsible for. A/t/a, ‘they had been given.’ However, the noun in ‘Our gifts’ is no translation of the verb which the Holy Qor-aan has used here)

  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — They (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • مُّبۡلِسُوۡنَ — Mob-lay-soo-n — In depression (= v., past., pass., pl., 3rd person. In hopelessness. In deep despair. Dejected. Disappointed. Greatly saddened with the fear of unknown. Buried or engulfed in depression. Smitten by depression with no hope to recover.  A/t/a, ‘were struck dumb with despair,’ ‘were plunged in despair,’ ‘were plunged into despair,’ ‘were plunged in utter despair,’ ‘were in utter despair,’ ‘they were plunged into destruction with deep regrets and sorrow,’ ‘were in sore despair (of all good)’ and ‘were dumbfounded’)
