The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                               007:004

 

اِتَّبِعُوۡا مَاۤ اُنۡزِلَ اِلَيۡكُمۡ مِّنۡ رَّبِّكُمۡ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوۡا مِنۡ دُوۡنِهٖۤ اَوۡلِيَآءَ‌ ؕ قَلِيۡلًا مَّا تَذَكَّرُوۡنَ‏

 

It-ta-bay-oo  maa  oon-zay-la  elai  koom  min  rub-bay  koom                                                  Wa  laa  tut-ta-bay-oo  min  doo-nay  he  auo-lay-yaa-aa                                                        Qa-le-lun  maa  ta-zauk-ka-roo-n

 

Follow what was entrusted to you from your GOD                                                    And follow not  many friends other than Him.                                                                Little is what you remember.

 

  • اتَّبِعُوۡ — Ut-ta-bay — Follow (= v., pres., s., 2nd person. Act as directed. Copy. Emulate. See more meanings in 006:154. A/t/a, ‘Follow,’ ‘observe,’ ‘Follow (O men !),’ ‘(People!) follow the message) and ‘[Say (O Muhammad s.a.w) to these idolaters (pagan Arabs) of your folk:] Follow’)
  • مَاۤ  — Maa  – What (= All that; whatever. A/t/a, ‘which,’ ‘that which’ and ‘what’)
  • اُنۡزِلَ — Oon-zay-la — Was entrusted (= v., past., pass., 3rd person. Given. Inspired. See Note 002:005a. A/t/a, ‘revealed,’ ‘sent down’ and ‘brought down.’  But ‘revelation’ is a noun and no translation of the verb used in the Holy Qor-aan)
  • اِلَيۡ — E-lai  — To (= In the direction of; to; towards. A/t/a, ‘to’ and ‘unto’)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You all men. The Holy Qor-aan generally addresses this way men and women jointly)
  • مِّنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of a class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘by’)
  •  رَّبِّ — Rub-bay — God / Lord  (= The Almighty Allah who fills all needs of all His creatures; Creator; Master; One Who Sustain; The Lord provident; The Ultimate Provider of Air, water, food and whatever we need to live and subsist. See 001:002. A/t/a, ‘Lord (The Qur’an and Prophet Muhammad’s Sunnah)’
  • كُمۡ — Koom — Your (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person., You . See  كُمۡ  above)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • لَا — Laa — Not (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception)
  • تَتَّبِعُوا — Tut-ta-bay-oo — Follow (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Copy. See اتَّبِعُوۡ above)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class. See  مِّنۡ  above)
  • دُوۡنِ — Doo-nay — Other than (= Apart from; besides; except; excluding; exclusive of; in preference to; over and beyond; save; to the exclusion of the rest of. A/t/a, ‘besides Him (Allah)’
  • هٖ  — He — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
  • اَوۡلِيَآءَ‌ — Auo-lay-yaa-aa –Friends (= n., pl., Buddies; guardians; patrons; protective friends; protectors. See other meanings in Note 003:176. A/t/a, ‘guardians,’  ‘protectors,’ ‘protecting friends,’ ‘masters,’ ‘patrons (as you assume them to be,’ ‘patrons’ and ‘Auliya (protectors and helpers who order you to associate partners in worship with Allah)’
  • قَلِيۡلًا — Qa-lee-lun — Little (= Adj., A bit; little in quality or quantity; comparatively   insignificant; less, miserably low; meager; trifling. More meanings in 002:175. A/t/a, ‘Little,’ ‘How little,’ ‘little heed,’ Little do,’ ‘Little it is,’ ‘How little heed you pay to’ and ‘But … seldom’)
  • مَّا — Maa — All that (= What; whatever; whatsoever. A/t/a, ‘How’)
  • تَذَكَّرُوۡنَ — Ta-zauk-ka-roo-n — Remember (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Keep in mind; follow direction; have regard; pay attention; pay heed; recall; remember instructions or message; remind; stay admonished; take heed. Take notice. Think of. A/t/a, ‘take warning,’ ‘take admonition,’ ‘you remember,’ ‘ye remember,’ ‘do you mind’ and do ye recollect.’ But the noun as in  ‘admonition’ is no translation of the verb that the Holy Qor-aan has used)
