اِذۡ اَوَى الۡفِتۡيَةُ اِلَى الۡـكَهۡفِ فَقَالُوۡا رَبَّنَاۤ اٰتِنَا مِنۡ لَّدُنۡكَ رَحۡمَةً وَّهَيِّئۡ لَـنَا مِنۡ اَمۡرِنَا رَشَدًا

 

Iz-aa-wul-fit-ya-to-elul-kah-fay-fa-qaa-loo                                                                                      Rub-ba-na-aa-tay-naa-min-la-doon-ka-rah-ma-ton                                                                Wa-huy-yay-la-naa-min-um-ray-naa-ra-sha-daa

 

Remember when the youths went for refuge to the cave, they said,                        “God of us all please show us Your mercy                                                                      And show us the right road in following our Order .”

 

  • اِذۡ — Iz — Remember (= At the time or event; call to mind; recall; remember; think of the time, event, occasion or opportunity. Also, behold; consider; ponder over; reflect; when. A/t/a, ‘(Recall the time) when’)
  • اَوَى — Aa-wa … (ul)– Went for refuge (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Took shelter. A/t/a, ‘fled for refuge,’ ‘sought refuge,’ ‘betook … for refuge,’ ‘betook themselves,’ ’took refuge,’ and ‘retreated’)
  • الۡفِتۡيَةُ — Fit-ya-to — The youths (= n., pl. Young adults; younger folks. A/t/a, young men)
  • اِلَى — E-la … (ul) — To (= In the direction of; to; towards)
  • الۡـكَهۡفِ — Kah-fay — The cave (= n., s., A cavity in a hill that provides cover and shelter to   anyone who enters it. A/t/a, ‘Cave,’ ‘wide cave’  and ‘Place of Refuge’)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= After all this; at the end; consequently; finally; hence; in conclusion; so; thereafter; therefore; thus)
  • قَالُوۡا — Qaa-loo — They said (= v., past, s, m, 3rd person. Announced; broadcast; called;   conveyed; declared; stated; told. See Notes 112:002 and our Commentary “‘You say’ means.” A/t/a, ‘they prayed’ and ‘said (in prayer)’
  • رَبَّ — Rub-ba  — The Provider (= The Almighty Allah who fills all needs of all His creatures; Creator; Master; One Who Sustain; The Lord provident; The Ultimate Provider of Air, water, food and whatever we need to live and subsist)
  • نَآ — Naa — Our (= pro., pl., m & f., 1st person. Us all)
  • اٰتِ — Aa-tay — Show (= v., pres., 2nd person. Bestow on; bless; donate; gift; give; grant; hand out; reach us with)
  • نَآ  — Naa — Us (= pro., pl., m & f., 1st person. Us all)
  • مِنۡ —  Min … (l) — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon)
  • لَّدُنۡكَ — La-doon-ka — Your (= This term is a combination of three components. The  first one is لَ  that means concerning, due to, for the purpose or reason of, regarding or relative to. The second is  دُنۡ  that means close, from or near. The third  is كَ  that refers to You a single male. The entire term has been translated variously such as ‘yourself,’ ‘Thyself’ and ‘from Thy presence’)  
  • رَحۡمَةً — Rah-ma-ton — As a Mercy (= Beneficence.  Clemency.  Compassion.  Condoning. Forgiveness.  Intercession.  Intervention.  Kindness. Leniency. Omitting, relenting or waiving punishment. A/t/a, ‘mercy,’ ‘special mercy’ and ‘have mercy’)
  • وَّ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • هَيِّئۡ — Huy-yay — Show (= v. pres., 2nd person. Decide; give life; destine; foreordain;  prearrange; predestine; predetermine; preordain.   A/t/a, ‘dispose of,’ ‘provide,’ ‘furnish,’ ‘facilitate,’ ‘shape,’ ‘guide’ and ‘guide us out of’)
  • لَ — La — For (= Concerning; due to; for the object, purpose or reason of; intended for; on account of; regarding; relative to)
  • نَآ  — Naa — Us (= pro., pl., m & f., 1st person. Us all)
  • مِنۡ  — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class. See مِنۡ  above)
  • اَمۡرِ — Um-ray — The Order (= n., s.,1. Authority; command; control; decision; decree;    direction; instruction; judgment; responsibility; rule. 2. Affair; issue; matter; situation. See Note 002:211. A/t/a, ‘affair,’ ‘plight’ and ‘ordeal’)
  • نَآ — Naa — Our (= pro., pl., m & f., 1st person. Us all)
  • رَشَدًا — Ra-sha-da — Right course (= n., Ability to stick to right road; clarity of mind; good reasoning; maturity of thought process; right thinking; sensibility; solid approach; sound judgment. A/t/a,  ‘right course(setting all things right for us,’right way,’ ‘right guidance,’ ‘right conduct’ and ‘to the right’)
