The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                               062:010

 

يٰۤاَيُّهَا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡۤا اِذَا نُوۡدِىَ لِلصَّلٰوةِ مِنۡ يَّوۡمِ الۡجُمُعَةِ فَاسۡعَوۡا اِلٰى ذِكۡرِ اللّٰهِ وَذَرُوا الۡبَيۡعَ‌ ؕ   ذٰ لِكُمۡ خَيۡرٌ لَّـكُمۡ اِنۡ كُنۡتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُوۡنَ

 

Yaa-auy-yo-hul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo-ezaa-noo-day-ya                                                              Lis-sa-laa-tay-min-yao-mil-jo-mo-aa-tay-fus-auo                                                                      Elaa-zik-ril-laa-hay-wa-za-rool-bai-aa                                                                                        Zaa-lay-koom-khai-ron-la-koom-in-koon-toom-tau-la-moo-n

 

Listen, you all who have believed! When call is made                                                    For the prayer on Friday then hurry                                                                                    Towards the remembrance of Allah and leave trading                                                  This is better for you if you have been knowing

 

  • يٰۤ — Yaa — Listen (= Be attentive; hearken; pay attention; O!)
  • اَيُّهَا — Auy-yo-ha(ul) — You all (= All addressees; entire audience; whole lot of listeners)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Those articles, things or persons
  • اٰمَنُوۡۤ — Aa-ma-noo — Have believed (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Believed in the Holy  Qor-aan and became Moslems; entered the Faith of Islam. Also, have accepted, admitted, affirmed, approved, concurred, confirmed, corroborated, embraced, evidenced, proved, testified or witnessed entry in Isslaam. Our Commentary Phrase Ya-ayyo-hulla  shows some places where the Holy Qor-aan has directed those who have believed with a Command or Prohibition. Our Commentary Islam-101 and Note 002:026c show how this phrase  has been translated incorrectly as (a) ‘O ye who believe’ and ‘O you believe’ in the present tense and (b) ‘Believers’ as a noun)
  • اِذَا — Ezaa — When (= At the time or event; behold; call to mind; consider; now that; ponder over; recall; reflect, remember or think of the time, event, occasion, opportunity or time)
  • نُوۡدِىَ — Noo-day-ya — Call is made (= v., pres., pass., pl., 3rd person. Announced; broadcast; proclaimed; publically announced. A/t/a, ‘call is proclaimed,’ ‘call is sounded,’ ‘call is made,’ ‘the call is heard’ and ‘summoned’)
  • لِ  — L…(iss) — For (= For the object, person, purpose or reason of; intended for; meant for; on account of; concerning; regarding; relative to)
  • لصَّلٰوةِ  — Sa-laa-tay — Prayer (= n., Congregational, joint and public worship. A/t/a, ‘the (Congregational) Prayer’ and ‘Prayer’)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon)
  • يَّوۡمِ  — Yao-m…(il) — Day (= s., A period, term or time that ends; juncture)
  • الۡجُمُعَةِ — Jo-mo-aay-tay — Friday (= n., One of seven days of a week. A/t/a, ‘Friday (The Day of Assembly),’ ‘Friday,’ ‘the day of congregation,’ ‘Prayer on Friday’ and ‘Jumu’ah Prayer’)
  • فَ — F…(us) — Then (= After all this; at the end; consequently; finally; hence; in conclusion; so; thereafter; therefore; thus)
  • اسۡعَوۡا — Us-auo — Hurry (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Proceed; run; rush. A/t/a, ‘Hasten earnestly,’ ‘haste’ and ‘come’)
  • اِلَى — Elaa — To (= In the direction of; to; towards.  A/t/a, ‘unto’)
  • ذِكۡرِ — Zik-r(il) — Remembrance (= n., Recalling and remembering things a person may have forgotten; memory; mention; message; reflection; remembrance; talk; thinking; warning. A/t/a, ‘to extol the name of’ and ‘remembrance … [Jumu’ah religious talk (Khutbah) and Salat (prayer)’
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • وَ  — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • ذَرُوا — Za-roo(l) — Leave (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Abandon; avoid; discard; pass;  quit; reject. See Note 002:279. A/t/a, ‘leave off,’ ‘leave,’ ‘leave … aside’ and ‘cease’)
  • الۡبَيۡعَ — Baiy-aa — Trading (= n., The activity of buying and selling; giving and taking  or exchanging money for merchandise. A/t/a, ‘Business (and traffic),’ ‘traffic,’ ‘all business,’ ‘your trading,’ ‘trading’ and ‘business (and every other thing)’
  • ذٰلِكُمۡ — Zaa-lay-koom — This for you (= This word is a combination of three words. The first ذٰ  (zaa) means here, this fact or person who is right here, this or that is how it is, etc. The second لِ (lay) means for, belonging to, or is meant for. The third  كُمۡ (koom) is [pro., pl., m., 2nd person] a pronoun for the plural, masculine in 2nd person means You. The combination means this or that is for you.  A/t/a, ‘That is’ and ‘That  would be’)   
  • خَيۡرٌ — Khai-roon — Excellent (= Absolutely the tops; at apex; best; greatest; highest; supreme; superior most; the top. Comparatively better, superior or of greater, higher or more value. A/t/a, ‘best’ and ‘better’)
  • لَ — La — For (= Because of; concerning; due to; for the object, purpose or reason of; intended for; on account of; regarding; relative to. A/t/a, belonging to; to; towards)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You all men. Generally this is the way the Holy Qor-aan addresses men and women)
  • اِنۡ — In — If (= In case; under the circumstances; when; when situation arises; whenever)
  • كُنۡتُمۡ — Koon-toom — You have been (= Since the past were and have been continuously)
  • تَعۡلَمُوۡنَ‏ — Tau-la-moon — You know (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. You are in the know of it; become aware; come to know; get informed; turn into knowing.  A/t/a, ‘ye but knew,’ ‘ye did but know,’ ‘you know,’ ‘you only knew,’ ‘did you but know,’ ‘you did but know,’ ‘you but knew it’ and ‘only you knew’)
