The Holy Qor-aan                                         080:006                                             اَمَّا مَنِ اسۡتَغۡنٰى ۙ

                Um-maa-ma-nis-tugh-naa

                As far him who is indifferent

  • اَمَّا — Um-maa — As far as (= Combination of two words. The first word اَن means ‘that.’ The second word مَا means ‘all that or whatever.’ Joined together they mean ‘whatever’, ‘as regards’, etc)
  • مَنِ — Ma-n..(is) — Who (= Anyone; whoever; whom; whomever; whoso)
  • اسۡتَغۡنٰى — Is-tugh-naa — Indifferent * (= Acted arrogantly, proudly and disdainfully indifferent. Considered, construed, deemed, demented, thought or took himself to be too independent and self-sufficient. The ‘rich wealthy and self-sufficient who needed no one’ or as Ahmad Zidan put it had “no need of you.”

* Note 080:006. In summary the verses 080:006 to 012 can be translated as follows. It is strange that he who is indifferent, you fret for him and it is not up to you to cleanse him. But he who came to you making special effort and really feared Allah, then you neglect him. By no means it could be so. M Zafrulla Khan served an excellent translation of these verses. “How could it be that” is his translation of the word اَمَّا . Others summarized this section as if it were a Prohibition, and they verbalized the warning with the words “Do not do like this.”

The Holy Qor-aan                                         080:007                                              فَاَنۡتَ لَهٗ تَصَدّٰى ؕ

                Fa-un-ta-la-hoo-ta-sud-daa

               Then you have all the attention for him

  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; as a result; so; thereafter; therefore; yet)
  • أَنتَ — Un-ta — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You single male. The addressee of this divine message is initially the Holy Prophet s.a.w and secondarily every Moslem, in fact every human being. See the Note under 002:005)
  • لَ — La — For (= For the attention, benefit, purpose or reason of. With intent to. With the object of)
  • هٗ — Hoo — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the ‘Indifferent’ person)
  • تَصَدّٰى — Ta-sud-daa — Attention (= v., Attach importance. Become attentive. Fret. Go all over. Have concern or regard. Pay attention. Worry)

The Holy Qor-aan                                          080:008                                         وَمَا عَلَيۡكَ اَلَّا يَزَّكّٰٓى ؕ

                 Wa-maa-alai-ka-ul-laa-yuz-zuk-ka

                 And it is not up to you that he won’t cleanse.

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — Not * (= Absolutely none; not; never)
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — Up to (= Against; for; upon; on; over; up to. A/t/a No blame, duty or responsibility on you)
  • كَ — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. Yours. See أَنتَ above)
  • اَلَّا — Ul-laa — That he won’t (= Combination of two word. اَنۡ (un) means ‘that.’ لَا (laa) means ‘never, no, not at all.’)
  • يَزَّكّٰٓى — Yuz-zuk-kaa — Cleanse (= 1. Clean; purify; sanctify; 2. Make someone develop and grow by the process of cleansing and removing impurities, shortcomings and weaknesses. 3. Increase someone in spiritual understanding)

* Note 080:008. Other translations are as follows. “No blame on you if he chooses to remain impure.” “What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief? – you are only a Messenger , your duty is to convey the Message of Allah”

The Holy Qor-aan                                         080:009                                      وَاَمَّا مَنۡ جَآءَكَ يَسۡعٰى ۙ

                Wa-um-maa-mun-jaa-a-ka-yus-aa

                And as far him who came to you making special effort

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • اَمَّا — Um-maa — As far as (= Combination of two words. The first word اَن means ‘that.’ The second word مَا means ‘all that or whatever.’ Joined together they mean ‘whatever’, ‘as regards’, etc)
  • مَنۡ — Mun — Who (= Anyone; whoever; whom; whomever; whoso)
  • جَآءَ — Jaa-a — Came (= Arrived; positioned; reached; settled. Brought, gave or delivered himself to ‘you’)
  • كَ — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You single male. The addressee of this divine message is initially the Holy Prophet s.a.w and secondarily every Moslem, in fact every human being. See the Note under 002:005)
  • يَسۡعٰى — Yus-aa — Making effort (= Came eagerly, earnestly, purposefully and zealously. Came running, huffing and puffing, striving; struggling . Hastening; hurrying; making real hard special effort)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         080:010                                                   وَهُوَ يَخۡشٰى ۙ

                  Wa-ho-wa-yukh-shaa

                 And he was fearing God

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • هُو — Ho-wa — He (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid ‘blind person)
  • يَخۡشٰى — Yukh-shaa — Was fearing (= Afraid of God’s punishment; in his heart stands in awe)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         080:011                                              فَاَنۡتَ عَنۡهُ تَلَهّٰى ۚ

                 Fa-un-ta-un-ho-ta-lauh-haa

                Then you forget about him

  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; as a result; so; thereafter; therefore; yet)
  • أَنتَ — Un-ta — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You single male. The addressee of this divine message is initially the Holy Prophet s.a.w and secondarily every Moslem, in fact every human being. See the Note under 002:005)
  • عَنۡ — Un — About (= About; concerning; from regarding; relative to)
  • هُ — Ho — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid striver)
  • تَلَهّٰى — Ta-lauh-haa — Forget (= Are neglectful and unmindful. Distracted. Ignore.. Have little regard neglect. Pay no attention no heed)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         080:012                                              كَلَّاۤ اِنَّهَا تَذۡكِرَةٌ ۚ

                  Kul-laa-in-na-haa-tuz-kay-rauh

                The fact is that this indeed is a reminder

  • كَلَّا — Kul-laa — The fact is (= Absolutely not; fact is; in effect; indeed; instead; like it was never; nay; the reality is. See Note 078:005).
  • اِنَّ — In-na — Indeed (= Absolutely; certainly definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; positively; really; seriously; surely; truly; verily)
  • هَا — Haa — This (= pro., s., f., 3rd person. Refers to ‘the aforesaid’)
  • تَذۡكِرَةٌ — Tuz-kay-rauh — Reminder (= Admonition; instruction; message; remembrance; reminding. One way to rise to eminence. A collection of many good things put in one event, time or place)
