The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                  091:001

Verses of the Holy Qor-aan are quoted on this site with the numbers, the first set of three being the number of Soorah (Chapter) followed by the last set of three being the number of the verse. The numbers include بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏ as the verse #1 in every Soorah except the Soorah #9. The original Arabic word is shown first, or in Col #1. The phonetic transliteration in English is shown next, or in Col #2, and is based upon words commonly pronounced like bat, cat, sat → fate, gate, hate → bait, trait → bay, nay, say → be, he, she → bet, pet, wet → bit, fit, sit → cot, dot, rot → boot, hoot, root → bout, rout → but, cut, hut, ultimatum. Chapter # 91                                     Soora-toosh-Shams                                  سُوۡرَةُ الشّمس

بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ

وَالشَّمۡسِ وَضُحٰٮهَا ۙ‏ وَالۡقَمَرِ اِذَا تَلٰٮهَا ۙ وَالنَّهَارِ اِذَا جَلّٰٮهَا ۙ وَالَّيۡلِ اِذَا يَغۡشٰٮهَا ۙ وَالسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنٰٮهَا ۙ وَالۡاَرۡضِ وَمَا طَحٰٮهَا ۙ وَنَفۡسٍ وَّمَا سَوّٰٮهَا ۙ‏ فَاَلۡهَمَهَا فُجُوۡرَهَا وَتَقۡوٰٮهَا ۙ‏ قَدۡ اَفۡلَحَ مَنۡ زَكّٰٮهَا ۙ‏ وَقَدۡ خَابَ مَنۡ دَسّٰٮهَا ؕ‏ كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُوۡدُ بِطَغۡوٰٮهَآ ۙ‏ اِذِ انۡۢبَعَثَ اَشۡقٰٮهَا ۙ‏ فَقَالَ لَهُمۡ رَسُوۡلُ اللّٰهِ نَاقَةَ اللّٰهِ وَسُقۡيٰهَا ؕ‏ فَكَذَّبُوۡهُ فَعَقَرُوۡهَا- ۙفَدَمۡدَمَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ بِذَنۡۢبِهِمۡ فَسَوّٰٮهَا ‏ ۙ‏ وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقۡبٰهَا ‏ ○

1. Bis-mil-laa-hir-rah-maa-nir-ra-heem
2. Wush-shum-say-wa-dzo-haa-haa
3. Wul-qa-ma-ray-ezaa-tul-laa-haa
4. Wun-na-haa-ray-ezaa-jul-laa-haa
5. Wul-lai-lay-ezaa-yugh-shaa-haa
6. Wus-sa-maa-ay-wa-maa-ba-naa-haa
7. Wul-ur-dzay-wa-maa-ta-haa-haa
8. Wa-nuf-sin-wa-maa-suw-waa-haa-haa
9. Ful-ha-ma-haa-fo-joo-ra-haa-wa-tuq-waa-haa
10. Qud-uf-la-ha-mun-zuk-ka-haa
11. Wa-qud-khaa-ba-mun-dus-saa-haa
12. Kuz-za-but-tha-moo-do-bay-tugh-waa-haa
13. Ai-zinb-ba-aa-tha-ush-qaa-haa
14. Fa-qaa-la-la-hoom-ra-soo-lool-laa-hay-naa-qa-tul-laa-hay-wa-sooq-yaa-haa
15. Fa-kuz-za-boo-ho–fa-aa-qua-roo-haa–fa-dum-da-ma-alai-him-rub-bo-hoom-bay-zunb-bay-him–fa-suw-waa-haa.
16. Wa-laa-ya-khaa-fo-ooq-baa-haa

1. With the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful I begin.
2. By the sun and its brilliance
3. By the moon when that follows it
4. By the day when that brightens it
5. By the night when that covers it
6. By the sky and Who made it
7. By the Earth and Who spread it
8. By the soul and Who balanced it
9. Then revealed its (that soul’s) weaknesses and strengths *
10. Sure to succeed is he who cleansed it (= Blessed is he who kept it clean)
11. And surely ruined is he who corrupted it
12. Thamood denied (the Truth and their prophet Sualeh) with its rebellion
13. When its arch-sinner rose to power
14. Then Allah’s Messenger said to them, “(Leave) Allah’s she-camel and its drinking”
15. Yet they belied him. Then they hamstrung it. Then their God destroyed them because of their sin. Thus He balanced (= settled that account)
16. And He is not afraid of what follows that (= settlement of account)

The Holy Qor-aan                                       091:001                                   ○بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏

Bis-mil-laa-hir-rah-maa-nir-ra-heem

With the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful I begin.

(Beginning, commencing, starting)

  • بِ — B…(is) — With (= This Arabic word literally means ‘with’. Its translation in English is more accurate with ‘with’ than with ‘in’)
  • سۡمِ — Ism…(il) — The name of (= The way to be addressed or called)
  • اللهِ — Laa-h…(ir) — Allah (= The Almighty God; the One Only worthy of worship)
  • الرَّحۡمٰنِ — Rah-maa-n(ir) — The Most Beneficent (= The One who fully, totally and wholly benefits all, to the maximum, with no condition, limitation or restriction. Compassionate. Gracious)
  • الرَّحِيۡمِ — Ra-heem — The Most Merciful (= The One who fully, totally and wholly showers mercy, to the maximum, again and again, continually, indefinitely and perpetually like the endlessly incoming waves from the oceans)
