The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                           092:020

 وَمَا لِاَحَدٍ عِنۡدَهٗ مِنۡ نِّعۡمَةٍ تُجۡزٰٓىۙ‏

Wa-maa-lay-aa-ha-din-in-da-hoo-min-ne-ma-tin-tooj-zaa

And no one has with him a favor to be returned

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — No (= Absolutely not; no; never)
  • لِ — Lay — For (= For the attention, benefit, purpose or reason of. With the object of; belonging to; in the matter of) )
  • اَحَدٍ — Aa-ha-din — One (= Individual; single)
  • عِنۡدَ — In-da — With (= From; in the counting, estimation, eyes or sight of; near)
  • هٗ — Hoo — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to earlier shown, stated or specified person who gave wealth to cleanse himself)
  • مِنۡ — Min — Among (= From the class, category, count, kind, persons or out of)
  • نِّعۡمَةٍ — Nae-ma-tin — A favor (= n., Blessings; bounties; comforts; delights; favors; good things; goodness; graces; indulgences; joys; prosperity; worldly favors and goods; special favors)
  • تُجۡزٰٓى‏ –Tooj-zaa –To be returned (= Expected, needed and required to be repaid, returned or rewarded)

  •  “Not because he is under an obligation to anyone which has to be repaid.” Allamah Nooruddin

اِلَّا ابۡتِغَآءَ وَجۡهِ رَبِّهِ الۡاَعۡلٰى‌ۚ‏

Il-lub-te-ghaa-aa-wuj-hay-rub-bay-hil-au-laa

He seeks little (in giving his wealth) except for a favor of his God, the Most High

  • اِلَّا — Il-la…(ub) — Except (= Apart from; besides; excluding; save; unless)
  • ابۡتِغَآءَ — (b) te-ghaa-aa — Seeking (= Going after; pursuing; wanting)
  • وَجۡهِ — Wuj-hay — Favor (= Attention; approval; countenance; face; focus; pleasure purpose; will)
  • رَبُّ — Rub-bay — God (= The Almighty Allah who fills needs of all creatures;
    Cherisher; Creator; Guardian; Master; Lord Provident. The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist)
  • هِ — H…(il) — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to earlier shown, stated or specified person who gave wealth cleansing himself)
  • لۡاَعۡلٰى‌ — Au-laa — The Most High (= Greatest; Highest; The Most Exalted)

وَلَسَوۡفَ يَرۡضٰى

Wa-la-sao-fa-yur-dzaa

And certainly very soon he will be real happy*

  • وَ — Wa –And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • لَ — La — Certainly (= Absolutely; definitely; positively; surely; truly; verily)
  • سَوۡفَ — Sao-fa — Very soon (= In near future, term or a short while; quickly; swiftly)
  • يَرۡضٰى — Yur-dzaa — Real happy (= v., m gender., 3rd person., Attain complete satisfaction. Become totally content. Really satisfied. Well pleased.)**

** Note: Various translators have drawn different conclusions by referring the ‘3rd person’ verb to one of the following scenarios.

  • He ( الۡاَتۡقَى, the righteous) will be pleased by his God.
  • He ( الۡاَتۡقَى, the righteous) will be well-pleased by entering the Paradise.
  • The Almighty God will be well-pleased with him ( الۡاَتۡقَى, the righteous).
