The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                       100:001 to 012

Verses of the Holy Qor-aan are quoted on this site with the numbers, the first set of three being the number of Soorah (Chapter) followed by the last set of three being the number of the verse. The numbers include بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏ as the verse #1 in every Soorah except the Soorah #9. The original Arabic word is shown first, or in Col #1. The phonetic transliteration in English is shown next, or in Col #2, and is based upon words commonly pronounced like bat, cat, sat → fate, gate, hate → bait, trait → bay, nay, say → be, he, she → bet, pet, wet → bit, fit, sit → cot, dot, rot → boot, hoot, root → bout, rout → but, cut, hut, ultimatum. The English equivalent to the Arabic words (shown first, or in Col #1) are provided next, or in Col #3. Some other alternates in English used in other translations are given last, or in Col #4.

Chapter # 100                                 Soora-tool-Aa-de-yat                                سُوۡرَةُ العَادیَات

بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡم
وَالۡعٰدِيٰتِ ضَبۡحًا ۙ‏ ○ فَالۡمُوۡرِيٰتِ قَدۡحًا ۙ‏ ○ فَالۡمُغِيۡرٰتِ صُبۡحًا ۙ‏ ○ فَاَثَرۡنَ بِهٖ نَقۡعًا ۙ‏ ○ فَوَسَطۡنَ بِهٖ جَمۡعًا ۙ‏ ○ اِنَّ الۡاِنۡسَانَ لِرَبِّهٖ لَـكَنُوۡدٌ ۚ‏ ○ وَاِنَّهٗ عَلٰى ذٰلِكَ لَشَهِيۡدٌ ۚ‏ ○ وَاِنَّهٗ لِحُبِّ الۡخَيۡرِ لَشَدِيۡدٌ ؕ‏ ○ اَفَلَا يَعۡلَمُ اِذَا بُعۡثِرَ مَا فِى الۡقُبُوۡرِۙ‏ ○ وَحُصِّلَ مَا فِى الصُّدُوۡرِۙ‏ ○ اِنَّ رَبَّهُمۡ بِهِمۡ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ لَّخَبِيۡرٌ

  1. Bis-mil-laa-hir-rah-maa-nir-ra-heem
  2. Wul-aa-de-yaa-tay-dhub-hun
  3. Ful-moo-re-yaa-tay-qud-hun
  4. Ful-mo-ghe-raa-tay-soob-hun
  5. Fa-aa-sur-na-bay-hee-nuq-un
  6. Fa-wa-sut-na-bay-hee-jum-aa
  7. In-nul-in-saa-na-lay-rub-bay-hee-la-ka-nood
  8. Wa-in-na-hoo-alaa-zaa-le-ka-la-sha-heed
  9. Wa-in-na-hoo-lay-hoob-bil-khai-ray-la-sha-deed
  10. A-fa-laa-yau-la-mo-ezaa-bo-se-ra-maa-fil-qoo-boo-r
  11. Wa-hoos-se-la-maa-fis-so-doo-r

  1. With the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful I begin

  3. Thereby the fire-sparks flaring
  4. Then the early morning raiders raiding
  5. Thereby clouds of dust raising
  6. Then in the center of army lines striking
  7. Man most certainly is ungrateful to his God.
  8. And He most certainly witnesses all that.
  9. And He most certainly strongly loves the good
  10. When raised after all that won’t he know what is in the graves
  11. And poured out will be all that is in the hearts
  12. Most certainly that day their God will know everything with them

The Holy Qor-aan                                          100:001                                         ○بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏

Bis-mil-laa-hir-rah-maa-nir-ra-heem

With the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful I begin.

(Beginning, commencing, starting)

  • بِ — B…(is) — With (= This Arabic word literally means ‘with’. Its translation in English is more accurate with ‘with’ than with ‘in’)
  • سۡمِ — Ism…(il) — The name of (= The way to be addressed or called)
  • اللهِ — Laa-h…(ir) — Allah (= The Almighty God; the One Only worthy of worship)
  • الرَّحۡمٰنِ — Rah-maa-n.(ir) — The Most Beneficent (= The One who fully, totally and wholly benefits all, to the maximum, with no condition, limitation or restriction. Compassionate. Gracious)
  • الرَّحِيۡمِ — Ra-heem — The Most Merciful (= The One who fully, totally and wholly showers mercy, to the maximum, again and again, continually, indefinitely and perpetually like the incoming waves from the oceans)

The Holy Qor-aan                                          100:002                                                    وَالۡعٰدِيٰتِ ضَبۡحًا

Wul-aa-de-yaa-tay-dhub-hun

By (= swearing by the truths like) the chargers snorting

  • وَ — W…(ul) — By (= This وَ  vaao is tantamount to taking oath; solemn declaration; swearing)
  • الۡعٰدِيٰتِ — Aa-de-yaa-tay  — Chargers (= Horses on which warriors ride; coursers; war steeds)
  • ضَبۡحًا — Dhub-hun — Snorting (= Panting; panting breaths; loud breathing of a horse after a period of physical exertion like a long distance run)

    Ful-moo-re-yaa-tay-qud-hun

Then the fire sparks flaring

  • فَ — F…(ul) — Then  (= Consequently; as a result; so; then; thus; therefore; yet)
  • الۡمُوۡرِيٰتِ — Moo-re-yaa-tay — Fire-sparks (= Causing, creating, generating, showing or striking sparks of fire)
  • قَدۡحًا — Qud-hun — Flaring (= Dashing of hoofs; galloping horses kicking and hitting stones; striking)

Ful-mo-ghe-raa-tay-soob-hun

Then the early morning raiders raiding

  • فَ — F…(ul) — Then (= Consequently; as a result; so; then; thus; therefore; yet)
  • الۡمُغِيۡرٰتِ — Mo-ghe-raa-tay — Raiders (= Attackers; chargers; riding soldiers; warring warriors)
  • صُبۡحًا — Soob-hun — Early morning (= Charging or raiding at dawn)

Fa-aa-sur-na-bay-hee-nuq-un

Then with that the clouds of dust raising

  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; as a result; so; then; thus; therefore; yet)
  • اَثَرۡنَ — Aa-sur -na — Raising (= Blazing; causing; creating; producing)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= This word in Arabic literally means ‘with’. Other possible meanings include ‘by means of’ and ‘with the instrumentality of’ )
  • هٖ — Hee — That (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the ‘activity of warring steeds and their riders’)
  • نَقۡعًا — Nuq-un — Clouds of dust (= Trail of dust)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         100:006                                                     فَوَسَطۡنَ بِهٖ جَمۡعًا

Fa-wa-sut-na-bay-hee-jum-aa

Then with that in the center of army lines striking

  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; as a result; so; then; thus; therefore; yet)
  • وَسَطۡنَ — Wa-sut-na — In the center (= Attacking, cleaving, penetrating, striking at the center or middle of the enemy lines and splitting them into two halves; hitting amidst)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= This word in Arabic literally means ‘with’. Also ‘by means of’ and ‘with the instrumentality of’)
  • هٖ — Hee — That (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the ‘activity of warring steeds and their riders’)
  • جَمۡعًا — Jum-aa — Army lines (= Enemy. Accumulated, amassed, assembled, collected, gathered, massive armies, forces, pile or reserves of foe)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         100:007                                             اِنَّ الۡاِنۡسَانَ لِرَبِّهٖ لَـكَنُوۡدٌ

In-nul-in-saa-na-le-rub-bay-hee-la-ka-nood

Man most certainly is ungrateful to his God.

  • اِنَّ — In-na…(ul) — Certainly  ** (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; in all sincerity; positively; really; surely; truly; verily) *
  • ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ — In-saa-na — The man (= The human being; mankind; the species known as man and woman. Also an evil good-for-nothing person)
  • لِ — Lay — To ( = For; towards)
  • رَبِّ — Rub-bay — God (= The Almighty Allah who fills needs of all creatures;
    Cherisher; Creator; Guardian; Master; Lord Provident.  The Only One Who provides all that sustains life.  Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist)
  • هٖ — Hee — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the aforesaid ‘Man’)
  • لَ — La — Certainly ** (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; in all sincerity; positively; really; surely; truly; verily) *
  • كَنُوۡدٌ — Ka-nood — Ungrateful (= Ingrate; thankless; unappreciative)

* Note 100:007. Two words اِنَّ and لَ have very similar meanings. Arabic allows using them both in one clause or sentence to create extreme emphasis. English does not recognize their such use — say ‘certainly’, certainly.’ So to convey the real intent of the original text a more appropriate expression is ‘most certainly’. The Holy Qor-aan                                         100:008                                               وَاِنَّهٗ عَلٰى ذٰلِكَ لَشَهِيۡدٌ

Wa-in-na-hoo-alaa-zaa-le-ka-la-sha-heed

And He most certainly witnesses all that

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • اِنَّ — In-na — Certainly ** (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; in all sincerity; positively; really; surely; truly; verily) *
  • هٗ — Hoo — He (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to ‘The Almighty God’. A translation that refers this pronoun to ‘Man’ will change the meanings of the whole verse)
  • عَلٰى — A-laa — On (= Above; against; for; on top of; over; upon. Also incurs, obligates, subjects himself to, or takes on)
  • ذٰلِكَ — Zaa-le-ka — That (= Here; refers to an aforesaid fact, person or statement; such; this; it was because; right in here; that is how it is)
  • لَ — La — Certainly ** (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; in all sincerity; positively; really; surely; truly; verily) *
  • شَهِيۡد — Sha-heed — A witness (= Attester; evidence; testifier; bears witness; violent)

The Holy Qor-aan                                          100:009                                            وَاِنَّهٗ لِحُبِّ الۡخَيۡرِ لَشَدِيۡدٌ

Wa-inna-hoo-lay-hoob-bil-khai-ray-la-sha-deed

And He most certainly strongly loves the good

  • حُبِّ — Hoob-b…(il) — Love (= Attachment; amorous desire; devotion; emotional; lure; tremendous passion)
  • الۡخَيۡرِ — Khai-ray — The goods (= 1. Good things; of greater, higher or more value; superior by comparison; 2. Horses; wealth; worldly goods. temporal
    things. 3. Things holding prospects of a better improved prize)
  • لَ — La — Certainly ** (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; in all sincerity; positively; really; surely; truly; verily) *
  • شَدِيۡد — Sha-deed — Strong (= Keen; passionate; severe; incredibly fond of wealth; loving violently; in love with wealth with all his heart)

The Holy Qor-aan                                          100:010                                  اَفَلَا يَعۡلَمُ اِذَا بُعۡثِرَ مَا فِى الۡقُبُوۡرِ‏

A-fa-laa-yau-la-mo-ezaa-bo-se-ra-maa-fil-qo-boo-r

When raised after all that won’t he know what is in the graves

  • فَ — Fa — After all that (= And; consequently; hence; resultantly; so; then; thereafter; thereby; therefore; yet)

  • بُعۡثِرَ — Boe-se-ra — Raised (= 1. Incarnated; poured out; resurrected. 2.. Exposed; scattered; thrown out all around)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — What (= All that; whatever; whatsoever)
  • فِىۡ — Fee — Inside (= During; in; in the duration or middle of an event, time, place, people or situation)
  • الۡقُبُوۡرِ — Qo-boo-r — The graves (= Contents of the graves, mausoleums and tombs

The Holy Qor-aan                                          100:011                                             وَحُصِّلَ مَا فِى الصُّدُوۡرِۙ‏

Wa-hoos-se-la-maa-fis-so-doo-r

And poured out will be all that is in the hearts

In-na-rub-ba-hoom-bay-him-yao-ma-e-zin-la-kha-beer

Most certainly that day their God will know all about them

  • اِنَّ — In-na — Certainly** (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; in all sincerity; positively; really; surely; truly; verily) *
  • رَبَّ — Rub-ba — God (= The Almighty Allah who fills needs of all creatures;
    Creator; Guardian; Master; Lord Provident. The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist)
  • ھُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid persons)
  • بِ — Bay — With / About (= By means of; with the instrumentality of)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid persons)
  • يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ — Yao-ma-e-zin — This day (= Judgment Day; The Day of Accounting and Settlement)
  • لَّ — La — Certainly** (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; in all sincerity; positively; really; surely; truly; verily) *
  • خَبِيۡرٌ — Kha-beer — Know all  (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most Aware, Informed and Knowledgeable. Knows all. All-Knowing; Knower of all that anyone does or ever did. Perfectly informed. With total information. Well-acquainted; Well informed)
