Verses of the Holy Qor-aan are quoted on this site with the numbers, the first set of three being the number of Soorah (Chapter) followed by the last set of three being the number of the verse. The numbers include بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏ as the verse #1 in every Soorah except the Soorah #9. The original Arabic word is shown first, or in Col #1. The phonetic transliteration in English is shown next, or in Col #2, and is based upon words commonly pronounced like bat, cat, sat → fate, gate, hate → bait, trait → bay, nay, say → be, he, she → bet, pet, wet → bit, fit, sit → cot, dot, rot → boot, hoot, root → bout, rout → but, cut, hut, ultimatum. The English equivalent to the Arabic words (shown first, or in Col #1) are provided next, or in Col #3. Some other alternates in English used in other translations are given last, or in Col #4.

Chapter # 107                                       Soora-tol-Maoon                                   سُوۡرَةُ المَاعون

بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ
اَرَءَيۡتَ الَّذِىۡ يُكَذِّبُ بِالدِّيۡنِؕ‏ ○ فَذٰلِكَ الَّذِىۡ يَدُعُّ الۡيَتِيۡمَۙ‏ ○ وَ لَا يَحُضُّ عَلٰى طَعَامِ الۡمِسۡكِيۡنِؕ‏ ○ فَوَيۡلٌ لِّلۡمُصَلِّيۡنَۙ‏ ○ الَّذِيۡنَ هُمۡ عَنۡ صَلَاتِهِمۡ سَاهُوۡنَۙ‏ ○ الَّذِيۡنَ هُمۡ يُرَآءُوۡنَۙ‏ ○ وَيَمۡنَعُوۡنَ الۡمَاعُوۡنَ

  1. Bis-mil-laa-hir-rah-maa-nir-ra-heem
  2. Aa-ra-aye-tul-la-zee-yo-kuz-zay-bo-bid-deen
  3. Fa-zaa-le-kul-la-zee-yud-ool-ya-teem
  4. Wa-laa-ya-hoodz-dzo-alaa-ta-aa-mil-mis-keen
  5. Fa-wai-loon-lil-mo-sul-leen
  6. Ul-la-zee-na-hoom-un-sua-laa-tay-him-saa-hoon

  2. Have you seen him who belies the Faith?
  3. Then that is he who shuns the orphan
  4. And he urges not the needy to eat
  5. So, woe to the worshipers

  8. And withhold even tiny kindnesses

The Holy Qor-aan                                          107:001                                        ○بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏

Bis-mil-laa-hir-rah-maa-nir-ra-heem

With the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful I begin.

(Beginning, commencing, starting)

  • بِ  — B… (is)  — With (= This Arabic word literally means ‘with’. Its translation in English is more accurate with ‘with’ than with ‘in’)
  • سۡمِ  — Ism…(il)  — The name of (= The way to be addressed or called)
  • اللهِ — Laa-h…(ir) — Allah (= The Almighty God; the One Only worthy of worship)
  • الرَّحۡمٰنِ — Rah-maa-n..(ir)  — The Most Beneficent (= The One who fully, totally and wholly benefits all, to the maximum, with no condition, limitation or restriction. Compassionate. Gracious)
  • الرَّحِيۡمِ — Ra-heem — The Most Merciful (= The One who fully, totally and wholly showers mercy, to the maximum, again and again, continually, indefinitely and perpetually like the endlessly incoming waves from the oceans)

The Holy Qor-aan                                          107:002                               أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِى يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ

Aa-ra-aye-tul-la-zee-yo-kuz-zay-bo-bid-deen

Have you seen him who belies the Faith

  • أ — Aa — Have (= Word asking a question like are, can, could, do, did,  had; have, shell, should, will, would, what, etc.)
  • رَءَيۡتَ — Ra-aye-ta…(ul) — You seen (= v., past., s., 2nd person. Considered; knew; noticed;   observed; thought of; witnessed)
  • الَّذِىۡ — La-zee  — That (= s., m, 3rd person. Refers to an article, thing or person)
  • يُكَذِّبُ  — Yo-kuz-zay-bo —  Belies (= Denies; disbelieves; falsifies; lies; misstates; rejects. Also, acts hypocritically)
  • بِ  — Bi(d)  — With (= Literal translation and best sense conveyed is ‘with’)
  • ٱلدِّينِ  — Deen  –The Faith (= n., Faith. Religion and its basic beliefs. Judgment. Recompense. Requital. The Religious, Spiritual and Eternal Code created by the Creator for His creation)

The Holy Qor-aan                                           107:003                                  فَذَٲلِكَ ٱلَّذِى يَدُعُّ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ

Fa-zaa-le-kul-la-zee-yud-ool-ya-teem

Then that is he who shuns the orphan

  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; as a result; so; thereafter; therefore; yet)
  • ذٰلِكَ — Zaa-le-ka — That (= Here; refers to an aforesaid fact, person or statement; this; it is because; right in here; such is; that is how it is)
  • الَّذِىۡ — La-zee  — Who (= s., m, 3rd person. Refers to an article, thing or person)
  • يَدُعُّ  — Yud-oo…(l) — Shuns (=Avoids; discards; drives or pushes away; mistreats; rejects; repels; repulses; roughly treats. Angrily turns away; harshly sends away or pushes aside. Literally ‘bids farewell’ including one who tells, commands, directs, orders or pushes away the orphan to get out of sight)
  • ٱلۡيَتِيمَ — Ya-teem — Orphan (= Child without one or both parents; helpless; destitute)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         107:004                             وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ

Wa-laa-ya-hoodz-dzo-alaa-ta-aa-mil-mis-keen

And he urges not the needy to eat

Fa-wai-loon-lil-mo-sul-leen

So woe to the worshipers

  • فَ — Fa — So (= Consequently; as a result; then; thereafter; therefore)
  • وَيۡلٌ۬ — Wai-loon — Woe (= How sad or unfortunate; what a misfortune it is; sadness)
  • لِ — Le…(il) — To (= Towards. For the benefit, purpose or reason; with intent or object of
  • لۡمُصَلِّين  — Mo-sul-leen — Worshipers (= Those who pray, perform worships. Pious. Righteous)

The Holy Qor-aan                                    107:006                              ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَن صَلَاتِہِمۡ سَاهُونَ

Ul-la-zee-na-hoom-un-sua-laa-tay-him-saa-hoon

Who are unmindful about their prayers

  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Who (= pl., m., 3rd person. Refer to articles, things or persons)
  • ھُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid worshipers)
  • عَنۡ — Un — About (= Concerning; regarding; relative to)
  • صَّلٰوةِ — Sua-laa-tay — Prayer (= 1- Beseeching; supplication. 2- Mandated five daily prayers. 3- Praying night and day, all the time, in everything we do)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid worshipers)
  • سَاهُونَ — Saa-hoon — Unmindful (= Careless; distracted; heedless; neglectful; oblivious; inattentive; unfocused. Also those who ‘delay their prayers from their stated fixed times’; ‘who outwardly / visibly offer prayers but are inwardly / really the hypocrites’; ‘who ignore the spirit, aim and object of praying’)

The Holy Qor-aan                                          107:007                                        ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ يُرَآءُونَ

Ul-la-zee-na-hoom-yo-raa-oon

Those who act to be just seen

  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to articles, things or persons)
  • ھُمۡ‌ — Hoom  — They (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid worshipers)
  • يُرَآءُونَ  — Yo-raa-oon  — Act to be seen (= Attempt, endeavor, try or want to just the show-off; create the illusions of worshiping; make a show of piety. Also, the hypocrites who do good deeds just to be seen by others. The show-offs)

The Holy Qor-aan                                          107:008                                           وَيَمۡنَعُونَ ٱلۡمَاعُونَ

Wa-yum-na-oo-nul-maa-oon

And withhold even tiny kindnesses

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • يَمۡنَعُونَ — Yum-na-oona — Withhold (= Abstain, desist, deny, hold back, refuse, refrain or stop)
  • ٱلۡمَاعُونَ  — Ul-maa-oo-n(ul)  — Tiny kindness (= Charity; least beneficence; legal alms; small favor or simple request for help that cost the giver little or zero. Also, refusing ‘Even to supply neighborly needs’; ‘acts of kindness’; ‘small kindnesses like salt, sugar, water’)

Note 107:008. This prohibition is to avoid doing the prevented acts. It also mandates people to stay away from obstructing those who avoid the prevented acts by their word, conduct or other means. An example is a proponent of Free Enterprise in a Capitalistic Society who touts against welfare assistance to the socio-economic disadvantaged segment of his own people, group, countrymen and even family.
