The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                   113:001 to 006

Verses of the Holy Qor-aan are quoted on this site with a 6-digit number; the first three digits tell of Soorah (Chapter) and the last three digits tell of verse. Numbering includes بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏    as verse #1 in every Soorah except Soorah #9. The phonetic transliteration in English is based upon words commonly pronounced as bat, cat, sat → fate, gate, hate → bait, trait → bay, nay, say → be, he, she → bet, pet, wet → bit, fit, sit → cot, dot, rot → boot, hoot, root → bout, rout → but, cut, hut, rut. 1. Bay  iss-may  il-laa-hay  ir-rah-maa-nay  ir-ra-heem
2. Qool  aa-oo-zo  bay  raub-bay  il-fa-lauq
3. Min  shaur-ray  maa  kha-lauq
4. Wa  min  shaur-ray  ghaa-say-qin  aiy-zaa  wa-qaub
5. Wa  min  shur-rin  nauf-faa-thaa-tay  fee  il-o-qaud

2. You say, “I seek protection in God of Cleaving
   
3. From the evil of what He created
4. And from the evil of the darkness when it has thickened
5. And from the evil of the blowers in the knots
   
6. And from the evil of a jealous person when he turned jealous.”

The Holy Qor-aan                                           113:001                                      ○بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏

Bay  iss-may  il-laa-hay  ir-rah-maa-nay  ir-ra-hee-m

With the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful I begin

(Beginning, commencing, starting)

• بِ — Bay … (is) — With (= The best translation of the word  بِ  is ‘with’ but some contexts may warrant its translation as ‘in’)
• سۡمِ — Iss-may … (il) — The name of (= The way to be addressed or called)
• اللهِ — Laa-hay … (ir) — Allah (= The Almighty God; the One Only worthy of worship)
• الرَّحۡمٰنِ — Rah-maa-n … (ir) — The Most Beneficent (= adj., Compassionate. Gracious. None more than Him benefits. As n: The One Who fully, totally and wholly benefits all, to the maximum without any condition, limitation or restriction. The Greatest and Highest Benefactor Who wills goodness and mercy to all His creation See Note 001:001)
• الرَّحِيۡمِ — Ra-hee-m — The Most Merciful (= adj., Superlative form indicates the Greatest Merciful. Merciful Forever. The word floodlights that none more than Him shows kindness and mercy, again and again, continually, incessantly, like perpetually coming waves from oceans)

The Holy Qor-aan                                          113-002                                      ۙ       قُلۡ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلۡفَلَقِ

Qool  aa-oo-zo  bay  raub-bay  in-naa-say

You say: I seek protection in God of Cleaving

• قُلۡ — Qool — You say (= v., pres., s., 2^nd person. Ask. Beseech. Pray. Say. State. Tell. See Note 112:002 below)
• أَعُوذُ — Aa-oo-zo — I seek protection (= v., pres., s., 1^st person. Seek, crave, pray and wish for God’s protection, guard and refuge. Commit to the One and the Only One Higher power’s care. See 002:068)
• بِ — Bay — With (= The best translation of the word بِ is ‘with’ but some contexts may warrant its translation as ‘in’)
• رَبِّ — Raub-bay … (in) — GOD / LORD (= The Almighty Allah who fills needs of all creatures; Cherisher; Creator; Guardian; Lord Provident; Master; The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. The Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist)
• ٱلۡفَلَقِ — Fa-luq — Cleaving ** (= Bursting open. Tearing apart the night. Dawn. Daybreak. Also, the plain appearing and emergence of truth. See Note 113:002 below)

** Note 113:002. Many translations of ٱلۡفَلَقِ are ‘Cleaving’ meaning “To split, or make something split, especially along a plane of natural weakness.” They broaden the depth of the request for ‘protection from the harmful evil that is out there’ by ‘cleaving it’ or ‘tearing it apart.’

The Holy Qor-aan                                          113:003                                           ۙ      مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ

Min  shaur-ray  maa  kha-lauq

From the evil of what He created

• مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among the class, category, count, people or places of)
• شَرِّ — Shaur-ray — Evil (= Mischief; bad things created as a test, set back, speed bump or stumbling block albeit temporary)
• مَا — Maa — What (= All that; whatever; whatsoever)
• خَلَقَ — Kha-la-qa — He created (= Brought into being; designed; every created thing; fashioned.  See also 002:068)

* Note 113:003.  As a part of a prayer the statement “Evil of whatever He created” is enormous. It is very broad as all prayers should be.  As compared to that, praying ‘Evil of what He created’ is lot narrower.

The Holy Qor-aan                                           113:004                                    وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَۙ

Wa  min  shaur-ray  ghaa-say-qin  aiy-zaa  wa-qaub

And from the evil of the darkness when it has thickened

• وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)

• غَاسِقٍ — Ghaa-say-qin — Darkness (= adj., Absence of light both in spiritual and material sense. Intense or pitch darkness of the night. Dark)
• اِذَاۤ — Aiy-zaa — When (= Any time or event; whenever)
• وَقَبَ — Wa-qa-ba — Thickened (= v., past, s., 3^rd person. Became intensified, intense, overspread, pitch dark, spread out thick darkness – specially such as we see when the full moon has entered a total eclipse)

The Holy Qor-aan                                          113:005                                ۙ       وَمِن شَرِّ ٱلنَّفَّـٰثَـٰتِ فِى ٱلۡعُقَدِ

Wa  min  shaur-rin  nauf-fa-thaa-tay  fee  il-o-qaud

And from the evil of the blowers into knots

• وَ  — Wa — And (= Conj., Links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
• مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among the class, category, count, people or places of)
• شَرِّ — Shaur-ray … (in) — Evil (= Mischief; bad things created as a test, set back, speed bump or stumbling block albeit temporary)
• ٱلنَّفَّـٰثَـٰتِ — Nauf-faa-thaa-tay — (= n., pl., Breathers; conjuring; evil whisperers trying to deter or obstruct good pursuits; those casting evil suggestions; promoters and practitioners of witchcraft; malignant) *
• فِىۡ — Fee … (il) — In (= About. Amidst. Among. Contained inside a duration,  event, time, place, period, person, phenomenon, situation or thing. Also, concerning; for the sake of; in reference to; pursuant to; regarding; relative to. See 002:028)
• ٱلۡعُقَدِ — O-qaud — Pacts (= n., pl., Accords; agreements; compacts; knots; pledges; resolutions; firmed up solutions agreed upon between parties. A/t/a Secret arts; witches joining hands; witchcraft)

* Note 113:005. This gesture reflects any of or all the following scenarios.

1. The age-old custom of concluding a solemn affirmation by blowing into hands.
2. The final step in the process of firming up an agreement, compact or mutual relationship.
3. The removal of complications which may have hitherto hindered finalizing a settlement.
4. The opening the knots that were tied up earlier.

The Holy Qor-aan                                         113:006                                           وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ

Wa  min  shaur-ray  haa-say-din  aiy-zaa  ha-saud

And from the evil of a jealous person when he turned jealous.”

• حَسَدَ — Ha-sa-da — Turned jealous ( = v., past., s., 3^rd person. Became or turned jealous.  Committed or perpetrated any act of jealousy. Envied . Implemented grudge and jealousy to inflict harm. Persisted in envying)
