.

مَثَلُهُمۡ كَمَثَلِ الَّذِى اسۡتَوۡقَدَ نَارًا ‌ۚ فَلَمَّاۤ اَضَآءَتۡ مَا حَوۡلَهٗ ذَهَبَ اللّٰهُ بِنُوۡرِهِمۡ وَتَرَكَهُمۡ فِىۡ ظُلُمٰتٍ لَّا يُبۡصِرُوۡنَ○‏

 

Ma-tha-lo-hoom-ka-ma-tha-lil-la-zees-tao-qa-da-naa-run                                                       Fa-lum-maa-adzaa-ut-maa-hao-la-hoo                                                                                            Za-ha-bul-laa-ho-bay-noo-ray-him                                                                                                Wa-tara-ka-hoom-fee-zo-lo-maa-tin-laa-yoob-say-roo-n.

 

Their example is like that of him who lit a fire.                                                                 Then when it lighted up all around it                                                                                    Allah went away with (= took) their light                                                                       And left them in darkness. They do not see.

 

  • مَثَلُ — Ma-tha-lo — Example (= Case; comparison; duplicate; illustration; likeness; parable; similitude)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person, Refers to the hypocrites)
  • كَ — Ka — Like (= Identical to; resembling; similar to)
  • مَثَلِ — Ma-tha-l..(il) — Example (= Case; comparison; duplicate; illustration; likeness; parable; similitude)
  • الَّذِىۡ — La-zee..(iss) — He who  (=  s., m.,  3rd person. That one person)
  • اسۡتَوۡقَدَ — Iss-tao-qa-da — Lit (= Fired up; kindled; lighted)
  • نَارًا — Naa-run — A fire (= The source for light and heat)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; as a resultant; so; thereafter; therefore; yet)
  • لَمَّاۤ — Lum-ma — When (= At the time)
  • اَضَآءَتۡ — Adzaa-ut — Lighted up (= Lit the fire that illuminated, shed or spread the light)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — All that (= What, whatever or whatever in the aforesaid category)
  • حَوۡلَ — Hao-la — Around (= Circling; encompassing; nearby)
  • هٗ — Hoo — It (= pro., s., m.,  3rd person. Refers to the lighted fire)
  • ذَهَبَ — Za-ha-b…(ul) — Went away (= Departed; parted; separated; took off in different direction. Here: extinguished or put out the fire)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • ب — Bay — With (= Literally this Arabic word means ‘with’
  • نُوۡرِ — Noo-ray — Light (= Brightness; illumination; shine)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to the lighter of fire)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • تَرَك — Ta-ra-ka — Left (= Abandoned; discarded; disowned)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., in 3rd person. Refers to the lighter of fire)
  • فِىۡ — Fee — In (= Contained in or amidst a duration, time, period, place, thing or situation; inside)
  • ظُلُمٰتٍ — Zo-lo-maa-tin — Darkness (= Literally, layer upon layer of darkness. Several zones of abysmal, thick, total and utter darkness)
  • لَّا — Laa — Not (= Absolutely not; never; no; never)
  • يُبۡصِرُوۡنَ — Yoob-say-roo-n — They see (= Observe; seriously take notice; watch)
