The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                     004:126

 

 وَمَنۡ اَحۡسَنُ دِيۡنًا مِّمَّنۡ اَسۡلَمَ وَجۡهَهٗ لِلّٰهِ وَهُوَ مُحۡسِنٌ وَّاتَّبَعَ مِلَّةَ اِبۡرٰهِيۡمَ حَنِيۡفًا‌ ؕ  وَاتَّخَذَ اللّٰهُ اِبۡرٰهِيۡمَ خَلِيۡلًا‏

 

Wa-mun-ah-sa-no-de-nun-mim-mun                                                                                              Us-la-ma-wuj-ha-hoo-lil-laa-hay                                                                                                  Wa-ho-wa-moh-say-noon                                                                                                                    Wut-ta-ba-aa-mil-la-ta-ib-raa-he-ma-ha-ne-faa                                                                            Wut-ta-kha-zul-laa-ho-ib-raa-he-ma-kha-le-laa

 

And who is better in religion than he who                                                                    Submitted all his attention to Allah                                                                                    And he was a Do-gooder                                                                                                      And followed the Faith of Abraham, the Righteous.                                              Indeed Allah took Abraham as a friend

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • مَنۡ — Mun — Who (= Anyone; whoever; whom; whomever; whoso. A/t/a, ‘who can be’)
  • اَحۡسَنُ — Ah-sa-no — Better (= adj., Fairer; kinder; lovelier; nicer; prettier; worthier for appreciation. A/t/a, ‘better’ and ‘has a nobler’)
  • دِيۡنًا — De-nun — Religion (= n., Belief system. Divine Rules. Faith. See Commentary   Islam – 106 – Religion Established Nation …  A/t/a, ‘in faith’)
  • مِّمَّنۡ  — Mim-mun — Than he who (= Combination of two words. The first word  مِنۡ (min) means ‘among, from or out of the class, category, kind count or several persons or things.’ The second word  مَنۡ (mun) means ‘anyone; who, whoever, whom, whomever; whoso, when, whenever. A/t/a, ‘than he’  and ‘than one who’)
  • اَسۡلَمَ — Us-la-ma — Submitted (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Became docile and obedient. Came to peace. Entered subservience. Gave himself to the will of God and did as told. Surrendered. A/t/a, ‘submits,’ ‘surrendereth,’ ‘submits …(i.e. follows Allah’s religion of Islamic Monotheism)’ and ‘surrenders’ but such translation in the present tense is not of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
  • وَجۡهَ — Wuj-ha — Attention (= n. s., All attention. Face or the front part of human body above neck and below head including the forehead, nose, cheeks. See below the Note 004:126.  A/t/a, ‘whole self,’ ‘wholly,’ ‘whole attention,’ ‘himself entirely,’ ‘himself,’ ‘purpose’ and ‘face (himself)’
  • هٗ — Hoo — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the aforesaid person)
  • لِ — Lay — To / For (= For the object, purpose or reason of; intended for; on account of; regarding; relative to; to; towards. A/t/a, ‘will of’)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. A/t/a, ‘while.’ See وَ  above)
  • هُوَ — Ho-wa — He (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. He; him; it. Refers to aforesaid shown, specified or stated article, thing or person)
  • مُحۡسِنٌ — Moh-say-noon — Do-gooder (= n., s., Who acts, does and practices to be kind, caring, considerate, charitable, good, helpful, humane without seeking any consideration, reciprocation, quid pro quo or something for something. Altruistic. Benevolent. Philanthropic. Righteous. Self-sacrificing. Unselfish. Some authors narrowed the word to mean a Moslem. A/t/a, ‘doer of good,’ ‘doer of good to others’ and ‘a good-doer.’ But ‘does good.’ ‘doing good (to others),’ ‘doing good (to man),’ ‘does what is right’ and ‘acting righteously’ but translation as a verb is not of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated as a noun)
  • وَّ — Wa…(ut) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • اتَّبَعَ — Ta-ba-aa — He followed (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Copied; duplicated; emulated;  followed; imitated; obeyed. A/t/a, ‘follows’ but such translation in the present tense is not of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
  • مِلَّةَ —  Mil-la-ta — Nation (= n. Followers; lifestyle; sure-footed and well-dug way of Life.  A/t/a, ‘the way’ and ‘religion’)
  • اِبۡرٰهٖمَ — Ib-raa-he-ma — Abraham (= Ibrahim; the name of a Messenger / Prophet of Allah)
  • حَنِيۡفًا — Ha-ne-faa — Righteous (= n., Forever inclined towards and always bent towards the God Almighty Allah in worshiping Him. Upright. A/t/a, ‘the true in faith,’ ‘saintly,’ ‘Hanif  (Islamic Monotheism … to worship none but Allah Alone)’ and ‘a man pure of faith’)
  • وَ — Wa…(ut) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • اتَّخَذَ — Ut-ta-kha-za — Took (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Adopted; caught; chose; got; grabbed; grasped; held; picked; received; scooped up; sought; seized; took. A/t/a, ‘did take,’ ‘took,’ ‘had taken’ and ‘whom… chose’)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God. A/t/a, ‘Allah (Himself)’
  • اِبۡرٰهٖمَ — Ib-raa-he-ma — Abraham (= Ibrahim; the name of a Messenger / Prophet of Allah)
  • خَلِيۡلًا‏ — Kha-le-laa — Friend (= n., One who is taken as a totally committed, reliable and trustworthy to one even in private moments; friend. A/t/a, ‘a special friend,’ ‘Khalil (an intimate friend) and ‘His friend’)

 

** Note 004:126. The word وَجۡهَ (wuj-ha) is a noun in the singular form and means face or the front part of human body above neck and below head including the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. The word implies the first and the most visible, identifiable, recognizable and loveable part of the body that invariably attracts first, as well as the following.

  • Attention. Concentrated focus of face, mind, heart and faculties including the hearing and seeing. Countenance as a tell-tale of what goes in the mind. Face, front or facial expression one cannot mask to manage or hide what the brain inside is intending, thinking or doing.
  • The clear-cut commitment, destination, mission or ultimate end-result one pin-points to achieve at all costs. The determined goal in a preoccupied mind.  The single and sole objective sought and pursued. T he best, entire, exclusive, tops, total or whole of one’s dominant thought, focus, objective, purpose or pursuit.
  • The line, road, path or way one chooses to follow. The direction, endeavor or will that reflects one’s intention.

The word وُجُوۡهِ  (wo-joo-ha) is a noun in the plural form and means appearances, faces and implies the following.

  • In silent things such as a nation … its face recognized as the Tops or Leadership that a tell-tale of what that nation is about.
  • In the non-talking vertebra like a raging bull … the body part upfront that provides most information about it.
