The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                     004:148

 

مَا يَفۡعَلُ اللّٰهُ بِعَذَابِكُمۡ اِنۡ شَكَرۡتُمۡ وَاٰمَنۡتُمۡ‌ ؕ وَكَانَ اللّٰهُ شَاكِرًا عَلِيۡمًا‏

 

Maa-yuf-aa-lool-laa-ho-bay-azaa-by-koom                                                                                    In-sha-kur-toom-wa-aa-mun-toom                                                                                                    Wa-kaa-nul-laa-ho-shaa-kay-run-alee-maa

 

What will Allah do with your punishment                                                                          If you thanked and believed                                                                                                      And Allah has always been Appreciator and All-Knowing

 

  • مَاۤ — Maa — What (= What; whatever; whatsoever. Also, absolutely not; no; never. A/t/a, ‘Wherefore should’)
  • يَفۡعَلُ — Yuf-aa-l(ool) — Will do / Does (= v., pres., active v., s., 3rd person. Accomplishes; acts; behaves; brings about; performs; practices; has or shows the ability, capability and power to do. A/t/a,’can… gain,’ ‘why should,’ ‘concerns hath’ and ‘has to do with’)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ. A/t/a, ‘for’)
  • عَذَابِ — Azaa-bay — Punishment (= n., Appropriate, due and fair agony, chastisement, doom, hard task, penalty, recompense; torment, torture or scourge. A/t/a, ‘chastise’ and ‘punish’ but using this verb is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated as a noun)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You all men. Generally this is the way the Holy Qor-aan addresses men and women)
  • اِنۡ — In  — If (= In case; under the circumstances; when; when situation arises; whenever)
  • شَكَرۡ — Sha-kur — Thanked (= v., past., 2nd person. Expressed gratitude; ‘thanked;’              were grateful. A/t/a, ‘are thankful,’ ‘are thankful (for His mercies),’ ‘are grateful,’ ‘will be grateful,’ ‘be grateful (to Him)’ and ‘render thanks to Him’ but such verbs in the present tense are no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
  • تُمُ — Toom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You. See  كُمۡ   above)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • اٰمَنۡ — Aa-mun — Believed (= v., past., 2nd person. Became believer in Holy Qor-aan,  Islam and the Holy Prophet Mohammed s.a.w; entered Faith; ‘have believed.’ A/t/a, ‘believe,’ ‘truly believe in Him’ and ‘believe (in Him)’ but this verb in the present tense is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
  • تُمُ — Toom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You. See  كُمۡ   above)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above. A/t/a, ‘Nay’)
  • كَانَ — Kaa-na..(ul) — Has been (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; had been; used to; were, went on doing. The word indicates the continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future endlessly. A/t/a, ‘is’ and ‘was’)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • شَاكِرًا — Shaa-kay-run — Appreciator (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him likes and approves and appreciates those who are grateful to Him; Appreciating; Most Appreciative;  Responsive; One Who rewards and is bountiful in rewarding. A/t/a, ‘recognizeth (All good),’ ‘ever Responsive,’ ‘All-Responsive to Gratitude.’ ‘ever Multiplier of rewards,’ ‘shall reward  your labours,’ ‘Ever-Appreciating’ and ‘Ever All-Appreciative.’ See Note 001:001 for how some authors added certain prefixes to plain meanings of words when translating them as attributes of God)
  •  عَلِيۡمًا‏ — Alee-maa — All-Knowing (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him knows, is knowing. Informed to the maximum. Has total and perfect knowledge. Has nothing out of sight. Knows all.  Well-Acquainted. Well-Aware. Most Knowledgeable. A/t/a, ‘knoweth All things,’ ‘Aware’ and ‘All-Knowing.’ See also Note 001:001)
