The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                   006:031

 

وَلَوۡ تَرٰٓى اِذۡ وُقِفُوۡا عَلٰى رَبِّهِمۡ‌ ؕ  قَالَ اَلَـيۡسَ هٰذَا بِالۡحَـقِّ‌ ؕ  قَالُوۡا بَلٰى وَرَبِّنَا‌ ؕ  قَالَ فَذُوۡقُوا الۡعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنۡتُمۡ تَكۡفُرُوۡنَ

 

Wa-lao-ta-raa-iz-wo-qay-foo-alaa-rub-bay-him                                                                            Qaa-la-aa-lai-sa-haa-zaa-bil-hu-qay                                                                                                Qaa-loo-ba-laa-wa-rub-bay-naa                                                                                                      Qaa-la-fa-zoo-qool-azaa-ba-bay-ma                                                                                         Koon-toom-tuk-fo-roo-n

 

And if you see them when stopped before their Lord.                                                    He (The Almighty God) said, “Is this not the Truth.”                                                    They (The Disbelievers) said, “Indeed, and we swear, Our God.”                          He (The Almighty God) said, “Then taste the punishment because of                    What you have been disbelieving.”

 

The sequence of next six (6) word is repeated in verses 006:028 and 006:031

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but;  also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • لَوۡ — Lao — If (= In case; under the circumstances; wish; would. A/t/a, ‘if’)
  • تَرٰى — Ta-raa — You see (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Look; observe; ponder; view;  watch; witness. A/t/a, ‘you could see,’ ‘you could but see,’ ‘thou couldst see,’ ‘thou couldst but see’ and ‘thou couldst only see’)
  • اِذۡ — Iz — When (= At the time or event; call to mind; recall; remember; think of the time, event, occasion or opportunity. Also, behold; consider; ponder over; reflect)
  • وُقِفُواْ — Wo-qay-foo — Stopped (= v., past., pl., 2nd person. Paused to reflect; stood. A/t/a, ‘confronted’ and ‘made to stand.’ But ‘are set’ and ‘they will be held (brought and made to stand) in the present or future tenses are no translations of how the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
  • عَلٰى — Aa-la … (un) — On (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; on top of; over; to; upon. A/t/a, ‘with’ and ‘in front of’)
  • رَبِّ — Rub-bay– The Almighty God (= The Almighty Allah who fills all needs of all His creatures; Creator; Master; One Who Sustain; The Lord provident; The Ultimate Provider of Air, water, food and whatever we need to live and subsist)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • قَا لَ — Qaa-la — He said (= v., past, s., m., 3rd person. Asked; called; enquired; told;  informed; queried; questioned. A/t/a, ‘He would ask.’ But ‘He will say’ and ‘(He) will say’ in the future tense is no translation of the original text in the past tense)
  • اَ — Aa — Is (= Question mark like  Are, Can, Have, Shell or Will?)
  • لَيۡسَ — Lai-sa — Not (= Absolute denial; never; not at all; total negation)
  • هٰذَا — Has-zaa — This (= This particularly pointed out; present right here; what is in front of you. A/t/a, ‘this,’ ‘being raised up again,’ ‘this second life,’ ‘this (Resurrection)’ and ‘this (Resurrection and the taking of the accounts)’
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word   بِ  means with)
  • الۡحَـقِّ — Huq-qay — The Truth (= n., Appropriate; equitable; exactness; fair; fairness; just; justification; justified conduct; preciseness; proper; right; reasonableness; suitable. A/t/a, ‘The truth,’ ‘the Truth,’ ‘true,’ ‘a reality’ and ‘real’)
  • قَالُوۡا — Qaa-loo — They said (= v., past, pl., m., 3rdperson: All those men announced;       called; declared; told. See Notes 112:002 and our Commentary ‘You say’ means …’ A/t/a, ‘They would answer.’ But ‘They will say,’ ‘They shall say and ‘they will reply’  in the future tense is no translation of the original text in the past tense)
  • بَلٰى — Ba-laa — Indeed (= But; aye; nay; however; indeed; instead; of course; nevertheless; on the contrary; rather; really; the fact is; truthfully; verily; yea but; yes. A/t/a, ‘Indeed, yes,’ ‘yes, indeed,’ ‘Yes,’ ‘Yea’ and ‘Yea, verily)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= The وَ  vaao when used with the Almighty God’s name is tantamount to taking oath with His name; solemn declaration or calling as a witness. Normally a Conj.,  See وَ  above. A/t/a, ‘by’)
  • رَبِّ — Rub-bay — God (= The Almighty Allah. See  رَبِّ  above)
  • نَآ — Naa — Our (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our; Us. Used with God’s name this is the authoritative way a higher-up talks)
  • قَا لَ — Qaa-la — He said (= v., past, s., m., 3rd person. Announced; broadcast; told;  commanded; declared; directed; informed; laid down; ordered. A/t/a, ‘He would say.’ But ‘He will say’ and ‘He will then say’ in the future tense is no translation of the original text in the past tense)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= After all this; at the end; consequently; finally; hence; in conclusion; so; thereafter; therefore; thus)
  • ذُوۡقُوۡا — Zoo-qoo — You taste (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. 1. Eat; partake. 2. Bear,   experience, put up with or suffer the consequences of your evil deeds. A/t/a, ‘taste ye,’ ‘taste you,’ ‘taste then,’ Then taste,’ ‘taste now’ and ‘suffer’)
  • الۡعَذَابَ — Azaa-ba — Punishment (= Appropriate, due and fair agony, chastisement, doom, hard task, penalty, recompense; torment, torture, or scourge. A/t/a, ‘retribution’ and ‘Our scourge, the reward’ )
  • بِمَا — Bay-maa — Because (= Combination of two words.  بِ  means ‘with / in’ and  مَاۤ  means ‘all that, whatever, whatsoever or whenever.’ The combination  بِمَا  (bay-maa) means ‘because of; due to; for the reason; in all that; on account of; owing to, with all  that. A/t/a, ‘Because,’ ‘as a result of’ and ‘for that which’)
  • كُنۡـتُمۡ — Koon-toom — You have been (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. It is a combination of two words. The first word is  كُنۡ  which means have or had been since the past. The second word is  تُمۡthat means you all men and that is how the Holy Qor-aan has  addressed men and women jointly. A/t/a, ‘you,’ ‘ye used to’ and ‘you used … to’)
  • تَكۡفُرُوۡنَ — Tuk-fo-roo-n — You disbelieve (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Deny, refuse or reject the Faith or belief in Allah, the Holy Qor-aan and Islam, become Moslem. For more meanings see Commentary Believe and Disbelieve. A/t/a, ‘ye rejected Faith,’ ‘you disbelieved,’ ‘ye used to disbelieve’ and ‘not … believe.’ But ‘your disbelief’ and ‘your unbelief’ are nouns and not accurate translations of how the Holy Qor-aan has described the phenomenon with a verb)
