The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                    007:052

 

الَّذِيۡنَ اتَّخَذُوۡا دِيۡنَهُمۡ لَهۡوًا وَّلَعِبًا وَّغَرَّتۡهُمُ الۡحَيٰوةُ الدُّنۡيَا‌‌ ۚ فَالۡيَوۡمَ نَنۡسٰٮهُمۡ كَمَا نَسُوۡا لِقَآءَ يَوۡمِهِمۡ هٰذَا ۙ وَمَا كَانُوۡا بِاٰيٰتِنَا يَجۡحَدُوۡنَ‏

 

Aul-ze-na  ut-ta-kha-zoo  de-na  hoom                                                                                            Lauh-waun  wa  la-aiy-baun  wa                                                                                                        Ghau-raut  ho-mo  ol-ha-yaa-to  od-doon-ya                                                                                Fa  ul-yao-ma  naun-saa  hoom  ka-maa                                                                                          Na-soo  lay-qaa-aa  yao-may  him  haa-zaa                                                                                  Wa  maa  kaa-noo  bay  aa-yaa-tay  naa  yauj-ha-doo-n

 

Those who took their religion                                                                                              As a pastime and sport and                                                                                                    The present life beguiled them,                                                                                        Thus this day We forgot them just like                                                                            They forgot meeting of theirs this day                                                                                  And that they used to fight back with Our Signs.

 

  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Aul-la-ze-na … (ut) — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those articles, persons, or phenomenon or things in masculine gender. A/t/a, ‘Who’ and ‘Such’)
  • اتَّخَذُوا — Ta-kha-zoo — They took (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Adopted. Caught. Owned. A/t/a, ‘treated’ and ‘made.’ But the present tense as in ‘take’ has not translated the Holy Qor-aan text in the past tense)
  • دِيۡنَ — De-na — Religion (= n., Belief system. Best way to live. Divine Rules. Faith. Lifestyle. Matters of faith. Religion. Way of life. Refers  to Islamic Monotheism; the right and true religion. A.t/a, ‘faith’)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • لَهۡوَا۟ — Lauh-waun — Pastime (= n., Distraction. Diversion. Pointless pursuit. Worthless  work. Any empty, idle, frolicky, futile. otiose, playful, useless, time-wasting, trivial or vain activity. A/t/a, ‘to be mere amusement,’ ‘as amusement,’ ‘idle sport,’ ‘for a futile … (thing)’ and ‘play’)
  • وَّ — Wa — And (= Conj., It links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • لَعِبًا — La-aiy-baun — Sport (= n., Amusement. Entertainment. Game. Play. Sports  A/t/a, ‘idle sport,’ ‘play,’ ‘frivolous thing causing diversion (from Allah)’ and ‘diversion’)
  • وَّ — Wa — And (= Conj., It links words, phrases or clauses. See  وَ   above)
  • غَرَّتۡ — Ghaur-raut — Beguiled (= v., past., f., 3rd person. Misled; took to wrong road.  A/t/a, ‘were seduced,’ ‘were deceived,’ ‘deceived’ and ‘has deluded.’ But the present tense in ‘deceives’ is no translation of the text of the Holy Qor-aan in the past tense)
  • هُمُ — Ho-mo … (ol) — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they. A/t/a, ‘whom’)
  • الۡحَيٰوةُ — Ha-yaa-tood — Life (= n., State of being alive and breathing. A creature’s condition of breathing by inhaling and exhaling. See 002:180)
  • الدُّنۡيَا‌‌ ۚ– Doon-yaa — The present (= n., Close at hand. Life … on earth, in the near or short term. The near life, of this world. The near one. The World at hand with its benefits, happiness or pleasures. The Hither, the opposite of the Hereafter. A/t/a, ‘the world,’ ‘this world,’ ‘working’ and ‘worldly’)
  • فَ — Fa — Thus (= Consequently; so; thereafter; therefore; then; thus; yet. A/t/a, ‘(And God will say’)
  • اَلۡيَوۡمَ — Aul-yao-ma — This day (= n., s., Effective today. From this day on. With effect from today. A/t/a, ‘that day’ and ‘today’)
  • نَنۡسٰ — Naun-saa — We forgot (= v., past., pl., 1st person. Became oblivious; discarded; disregarded; disremembered; forgot; ignored; neglected; overlooked. A/t/a, ‘We forgot’ and ‘We have forgotten.’ But the future tense in ‘We shall forsake,’ ‘shall We forget,’ ‘We shall forget’ and ‘We will forget’ is no translation  of the Holy Qor-aan text in the past tense)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • كَمَا — Ka-maa —  Like what (= Combination of two words; the first  كَ  (ka) means like, identical, resembling or similar; the second  مَاۤ  (maa) means all that, what, whatever, whatsoever, when and whenever. Jointly the words mean like that, just the way. Identical to. In the same fashion, line, manner, method or style. A/t/a, ‘as,’ ‘even as’ and ‘just as’)
  • نَسُوۡا — Na-soo — They forgot (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Disregarded. See  نَنۡسٰ  above. A/t/a, ‘they neglected’ and ‘they forsook (the idea of)’
  • لِقَآءَ — Lay-qaa-aa — Meeting (= n., Coming face to face; getting together; visiting. A/t/a,  ‘encounter.’ Not translated by njd)
  • يَوۡمِ — Yaao-may — Day (= n., s., Effective today. This day. See  اَلۡيَوۡمَ  above. A/t/a, ‘of … day with Us’ and ‘of …  day’)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Theirs (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • هٰذَا — Ha -zaa — This (= This particularly pointed out; present right here; what is in front of you. A/t/a, ‘that’)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., It links words, phrases or clauses. See  وَ   above)
  • مَاۤ — Maa —  That (= All that; what. A/t/a, ‘as’ and ‘for’)
  • كَانُوۡا — Kaa-noo — They had been (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; used to; went on; were doing. Words has or had always been indicate endless continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. A/t/a, ‘they used to’ and ‘they were wont’)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word  بِ  means with)
  • اٰيٰتِ — Aa-ya-tay — Signs (= n., pl of … An argument, corroboration, indication,  insinuation, pointer, portent, prof, sign, suggestion, symbol or token. See Note 002:074. A/t/a, ‘tokens,’ ‘messages’ and ‘Revelations’)
  • نَآ — Naa — Our (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our. Us)
  • يَجۡحَدُوۡنَ — Yauj-ha-doo-n — Fight back (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person., Fight back; resist; stress; strive; wriggle; writhe. A/t/a, ‘to deny,’ ‘to reject’ and ‘forgetting.’ But the past tense as in ‘they denied,’ ‘they persisted in denying’ and ‘they denied … deliberately’ has not translated the Holy Qor-aan text in the past tense)
