قَالَ يٰٓـاٰدَمُ اَنۡۢبِئۡهُمۡ بِاَسۡمَآٮِٕهِمۡ‌ۚ فَلَمَّآ اَنۡۢبَاَهُمۡ بِاَسۡمَآٮِٕهِمۡۙ قَالَ اَلَمۡ اَقُل لَّـكُمۡ اِنِّىۡٓ اَعۡلَمُ غَيۡبَ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضِۙ وَاَعۡلَمُ مَا تُبۡدُوۡنَ وَمَا كُنۡتُمۡ تَكۡتُمُوۡنَ

 

Qaa-la-yaa-aa-da-mo-um-bae-hoom-bay-us-maa-aiy-him                                                       Fa-lum-maa-umba-aa-hoom-bay-us-maa-aiy-him                                                                   Qaa-la–aa-lum-aqool-la-koom-in-nee-au-la-mo                                                                         Ghai-bus-sa-maa-waa-tay-wul-ur-dzay                                                                                         Wa-au-la-mo-ma-toob-doo-na-wa-maa-koon-toom-tuck-to-moo-n.

 

He (Allah) said, “Listen, Adam, tell them their names.”                                             Then when he informed them of their names                                                               He said, “Didn’t I tell you that I definitely know                                                             The secrets of the heavens and earth.                                                                                 And I know what you reveal and what you have been concealing.”

 

  • قَا لَ — Qaa-la — He said (= v., past, s., m., 3rd person. Announced; broadcast; called; commanded; conveyed; decreed; demanded; directed; mandated; ordered; told)
  • يٰۤ  — Yaa — Listen (= Be attentive; pay attention; O!)
  • ادَمُ — Aa-da-mo — Adam (= Adam; the name of a Messenger / Prophet of Allah)
  • اَنۡۢبِئۡ — Um-bae — Inform (= Announce; bring forward; declare; disclose; lay bare; lay down; reveal; say; show; state; tell)
  • ھُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Ref is to the angles)
  • بِ — Be — With (= This word in Arabic literally means ‘with’)
  • اَسۡمَآءِ — Us-maa-aiy — Names (= n., pl., It could be the a) names of God’s attributes, b) names of the objects, c) nature of things, or d) the labels or means by which persons or things are called, named or addressed)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to objects whose names God had taught Adam)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; as a result; so; thereafter; therefore; yet)
  • لَ — La…(um) — Surely (= Absolutely; certainly; definitely; positively; truly; verily)
  • مَّا — Maa — All that (= What; whatever; whatsoever)
  • اَنۡۢبَا — Um-ba-aa — Informed (= Announced; brought up; declared; disclosed; laid bare; produced; revealed; said; showed; spoken; stated; told)
  • ھُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Ref is to the angles)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= This word in Arabic literally means ‘with’)
  • اَسۡمَآءِ — Us-maa-aiy — Names (= n., pl., It could be the a) names of God’s attributes, b) names of the objects, c) nature of things, or d) the labels or means by which persons or things are called, named or addressed)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Them  (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Ref is to the objects whose names God taught Adam)
  • قَا لَ — Qaa-la — He said (= v., past, s., m., 3rd person. Announced; broadcast; called; commanded; conveyed; decreed; demanded; directed; mandated; ordered; told)
  • اَ — Aa — Did (= Question mark lie Are? Can? Have? Shell? Will?)
  • لَمۡ — Lum — Not (= Never; no, not at all)
  • اَقُل — A-Qool — I tell (= Convey; explain; expound; inform; say, specify; state)
  • لَّ — La — To ( = For the benefit, purpose or reason; on account of; with intent to; with the object of; towards)
  • کُمۡ — Koom — You all (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. Ref is to the angels)
  • اِنِّىۡ — In-nee — Certainly I (= Combination of two words. The first اِنِّ (inna) means most certainly; absolutely, definitely, doubtlessly, indeed; really; positively, surely, truly or verily. The second word ى refers to a ‘s., m & f.,  1st person’)
  • اَعۡلَمُ — Au-la-mo — Know well (= Am more aware; know more and better)
  • غَيۡبَ — Ghai-ba — Secrets (= Hidden realities; hitherto unknown; things beyond being seen; the unseen; unknown. Some translations have stated that غَيۡبَ refers to the unknown history of nations gone by. Could that also include  “the history of evolutionary stages of mankind?)
  • السَّمٰوٰتِ — Samaa-waa-tay — The Skies (= Heavens. a/t/a clouds; all above ground or earth; space)
  • وَ — Wa…(ul) — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • الۡاَرۡضِ — Ur-dzay — Earth (= Area; country; earth; ground; land; territory. Life on earth; nation, people or society in general)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • اَعۡلَمُ — Au-la-mo — Know well (= More aware and knowledgeable)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — What (= All that; whatever; whatsoever)
  • تُبۡدُوۡنَ — Tob-doon-a — You reveal (= Announce, disclose, make known, manifest, publicize, publish or show your acts, ideas, plans, scheme or even thoughts)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — What (= All that; if; whatever; whatsoever)
  • كُنۡ — Koon — Have been (= v., Conveys an act’s continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future like ‘continued doing’ or ‘went on doing’)  **
  • تُمۡ — Toom — You all (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Ref is to the angles. See Commentary  “2 pronoun or 1 pro and 1 verb mean ...”)
  • تَكۡتُمُوۡنَ — Tuck-to-moon — (= Hiding; keeping secret; keeping under cover; withholding to disclose)
