The Holy Qor-aan 002:259
اَلَمۡ تَرَ اِلَى الَّذِىۡ حَآجَّ اِبۡرٰهٖمَ فِىۡ رَبِّهٖۤ اَنۡ اٰتٰٮهُ اللّٰهُ الۡمُلۡكَۘ اِذۡ قَالَ اِبۡرٰهٖمُ رَبِّىَ الَّذِىۡ يُحۡىٖ وَيُمِيۡتُۙ قَالَ اَنَا اُحۡىٖ وَاُمِيۡتُؕ قَالَ اِبۡرٰهٖمُ فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ يَاۡتِىۡ بِالشَّمۡسِ مِنَ الۡمَشۡرِقِ فَاۡتِ بِهَا مِنَ الۡمَغۡرِبِ فَبُهِتَ الَّذِىۡ كَفَرَؕ وَاللّٰهُ لَا يَهۡدِى الۡقَوۡمَ الظّٰلِمِيۡنَۚ
Aa laum ta-ra aiy-la ul-la-ze haaj-ja ibra-he-ma
Fee raub-bay he aun aa-ta-ho ol-laa-ho ol-mool-ka
Iz qaa-la ib-raa-he-mo raub-bay-ya ul-la-ze yoh-yee wa yo-meet
Qaa la-aa aa-na oh-yee wa o-meet
Qaa-la ibra-he-mo fa in-na ul-laa-ha yau-tee
Bay ish-shaum-say may-na ul-maush-ray-qay
Fa u-tay bay haa may-na ul-maugh-ray-bay
Fa bo-hay-ta ul-la-ze ka-fa-ra
Wa ul-laa-ho laa yauh-day il-qao-mauz zaa-lay-mee-n
Have you not looked at he who argued vainly with Abraham
Regarding his God since Allah had given him the Kingdom?
When Abraham said, “My God is He who gives life and brings death.”
He said, “I give life and I give death.”
Abraham said, “Then surely Allah comes up
With the sun from the east
So you bring it up from the west.”
Thus confounded was he who disbelieved.
And Allah guides not the wrongdoers.

- ٱلَّذِي — Aul-la-ze — He who (= s., m., 3rd person. Article, thing, person or phenomenon. Refers to the king who argued with Abraham about who was God. A/t/a, that the king was “Nimrod, the then ruler of Babylon”)
- حَآجَّ — Haaj-ja — Vainly argued (= v., past., m., 3rd person. Contended. Debated. Disputed. Vainly argued. Verbally fought. Wrangled)
- اِبۡرٰهٖمَ — Ibra-he-ma — Abraham (= The name of a Messenger / Prophet of Allah. See Commentary titled as ‘Abraham was not an Idolater’)
- فِىۡ — Fee — Regarding (= About, concerning; in the matter of; in reference to; pursuant to; regarding; relative to)
- رَبِّ — Rub-bay — GOD / LORD (= The Almighty Allah who fills all needs of all creatures. Cherisher. Creator. Guardian. Lord Provident. Master. The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist. See 001:002)
- هٖ — He — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Him. Refers to Abraham)
- اَنۡ — Aun — Since (= Because; due to; for the reason; that)
- اٰتٰ — Aa-taa — Gave (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Awarded; bestowed; blessed; brought; came with; conferred; delivered; donated; entrusted; equipped; gifted; granted; handed down; presented; provided; reached; rewarded)
- هُ — Ho … (ol) — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Him. Refers to him, the King, who argued with Abraham regarding Allah)
- اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho…(ol) — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
- الۡمُلۡكَ — Mool-ka — The Kingdom (= n., Best translation of this word is The Supreme Power when used for the Almighty Allah and Kingdom or Kinghood when used for Man; see Note 002:248)
- إِذۡ — Iz — When (= Any the event, occasion, opportunity or time. Also, behold; call to mind; consider; now that; ponder over, recall; reflect, remember; think of)
- قَا لَ — Qaa-la — He said (= v., past, s., 3rd person. Argued; announced; asserted; contended; conveyed; countered; declared; informed; insisted; maintained; stated; told. See 002:031)
- اِبۡرٰهٖمُ — Ibra-he-mo — Abraham (= The name of a Messenger / Prophet. See اِبۡرٰهٖمَ above)
- رَبِّ — Rub-bay — God (= The Almighty Allah. See رَبِّ above)
- ىَ — Ya … (ul) — My (= pro., s., m & f., 1stperson. Me / My)
- ٱلَّذِي — La-zee — He who (= See ٱلَّذِي above)
- يُحۡىٖ — Yoh-yee — Gives life (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Brings to life; creates; enlivens; ordains or quickens to life; preserve alive; raises or restores to life to those considered dead; revives. A/t/a, ‘Fertilizes the earth’)
- وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)

The unending source of light, heat and energy necessary for life and vegetation on earth)

- ٱلۡمَشۡرِقِ — Maush-ray-qay — The east (= The side of the earth from which the sun appears to rise)

- بِ — Bay — With (= The Arabic word بِ literally means ‘with’)
- هَا — Haa — It (= pro., s., f., 3rd person. Refers to the Sun which in Arabic is represented in female gender)
- مِنَ — May-na … (ul) — From (= From the class, category, count, out or person of)
- ٱلۡمَغۡرِبِ — Mugh-ray-bay — The west (= The side of the earth in which the sun appears to set)

- بُهِتَ — Bo-hay-ta … (ul) — Confounded (= v., past., pass., s., 3rd person. Became, turned or was abashed, ashamed, confused, bewildered, defeated, dismayed, lost, lost for words, rendered utterly speechless)
- ٱلَّذِي — La-zee — He who (= See ٱلَّذِي above)
- كَفَر — Ka-fa-ra — Disbelieved (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Denied God. Refused belief. Rejected faith. Turned infidel, Ungrateful, thankless, unappreciative of blessings endowed)
- وَ — Wa … (ul) — And (= The وَ vaao is tantamount to taking oath; solemn declaration)
- اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
- لَا — Laa — Not (= Absolute denial; Total negation)
- يَہۡدِى — Yah-day … (il) — Guides (= v., Direct to the best way. Guides towards right road. Leads on level linier lines. Provides excellent opportunities. Puts on proper path. Shows sure success. Voids the evil that obstructs or restrains from reaching noble aims, goals and objects)
- ٱلۡقَوۡمَ — Qao-ma … (uz) — The people (= Addressees; attendees; followers; folks; nation; party; people; tribe)
- الظّٰلِمِيۡنَ — Zaa-lay-mee-n — Wrongdoers (= n., pl., Bad people. Criminals. Culprits. Doers of harm, hurt or injury. Evil doers. Polytheists. Transgressors. Those who commit, do, practice, repeat or habitually pursue the evil and cause grievous wrongs to others. Unfair. Unjust. Violators. Wicked. Those continually, habitually, perpetually and persistently doing wrongs. See 002:096. A/t/a Allah guides not ‘the unjust to success’)
