The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                 093:001 to 012

Verses of the Holy Qor-aan are quoted on this site with the numbers, the first set of three being the number of Soorah (Chapter) followed by the last set of three being the number of the verse. The numbers include بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏ as the verse #1 in every Soorah except the Soorah #9. The original Arabic word is shown first, or in Col #1. The phonetic transliteration in English is shown next, or in Col #2, and is based upon words commonly pronounced like bat, cat, sat → fate, gate, hate → bait, trait → bay, nay, say → be, he, she → bet, pet, wet → bit, fit, sit → cot, dot, rot → boot, hoot, root → bout, rout → but, cut, hut, ultimatum. Chapter # 093                                  Soora-toodz-Dzo-haa                             سُوۡرَةُ الِضُّحىٰ

○بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏

وَالضُّحٰىۙ‏  ○  وَالَّيۡلِ اِذَا سَجٰىۙ‏ ○ مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلٰىؕ‏ ○ وَلَـلۡاٰخِرَةُ خَيۡرٌ لَّكَ مِنَ الۡاُوۡلٰىؕ‏   وَلَسَوۡفَ يُعۡطِيۡكَ رَبُّكَ فَتَرۡضٰىؕ‏ ○ اَلَمۡ يَجِدۡكَ يَتِيۡمًا فَاٰوٰى‏ ○ وَوَجَدَكَ ضَآ لًّا فَهَدٰى‏ ○  وَوَجَدَكَ عَآٮِٕلًا فَاَغۡنٰىؕ‏  ○  فَاَمَّا الۡيَتِيۡمَ فَلَا تَقۡهَرۡؕ‏  ○ وَاَمَّا السَّآٮِٕلَ فَلَا تَنۡهَرۡؕ‏ ○ وَاَمَّا بِنِعۡمَةِ رَبِّكَ فَحَدِّثۡ‏



1. Bis-mil-laa-hir-rah-maa-nir-ra-heem
2. Wudh–dho-haa
3. Wul-lai-lay-ezaa-sa-jaa
4. Ma-wud-da-aa-ka-rub-bo-ka-wa-maa-qa-laa
5. Wa-lul-aa-khay-ra-to-khai-roon-la-ka-me-nul-oo-laa
6. Wa-la-sao-fa-yoe-tee-ka-rub-bo-ka-fa-tur-dhaa
7. Alum-ya-jid-ka-ya-tee-mun-fa-aa-waa
8. Wa-wa-ja-ka-dzaa-lun-fa-ha-daa
9. Wa-wa-ja-ka-aa-e-lun-fa-ugh-naa
10. Fa-um-mul-ya-tee-ma-fa-laa-tuk-her
11. Wa-um-mus-saa-ela-fa-laa-tun-hur
12. Wa-um-maa-bay-nae-ma-tay-rub-bay-ka-fa-hud-dith

1. With the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful I begin
2. By the brilliant brightness of the day
3. By the dark stillness of the night
4. Your God has not forsaken you nor forgotten you
5. And the future is definitely better for you than the past
6. And surely soon your God will give you so you will be well-pleased
7. Did He not find your an orphan; so He protected you
8. And He found you lost; so He guided you
9. And He found you poor; so He made you rich
10. Therefore, as far the orphan, so you do not hate
11. And as far the petitioner, so you do not rebuke
12. And as far the blessings of your God, so you talk about it

Holy Qor-aan                                                   093:001                                   ○بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏

Bis-mil-laa-hir-rah-maa-nir-ra-heem

With the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful I begin

(Beginning, commencing, starting)

  • بِ — B…(is) — With (= This Arabic word literally means ‘with’. Its translation in English is more accurate with ‘with’ than with ‘in’)
  • سۡمِ — Ism…(il) — The name of (= The way to be addressed or called)
  • اللهِ — Laa-h(ir) — Allah (= The Almighty God; the One Only worthy of worship)
  • الرَّحۡمٰنِ — Rah-maa-n(ir) — The Most Beneficent (= The One who fully, totally and wholly benefits all, to the maximum, with no condition, limitation or restriction. Compassionate. Gracious)
  • الرَّحِيۡمِ — Ra-heem — The Most Merciful (= The One who fully, totally and wholly showers mercy, to the maximum, again and again, continually, indefinitely and perpetually like the endlessly incoming waves from the oceans)

Holy Qor-aan                                                  093:002                                                   ○   وَالضُّحٰىۙ

Wudh–dho-haa

By the brilliant brightness of the day 

  • وَ — Wa…(udh) — By (= This وَ  vaao is tantamount to taking oath; solemn declaration. I call to witness)
  • الضُّحٰى — Dho-haa — Brightness (= Brilliant brightened morning; forenoon; light of the day; growing brightness of the morning or forenoon)

Holy Qor-aan                                                  093:003                                          ○     وَالَّيۡلِ اِذَا سَجٰىۙ

Wul-lai-lay-ezaa-sa-jaa

By the dark stillness of the night

  • وَ — Wa…(ul) — And (= This وَ  vaao is tantamount to taking oath; solemn declaration. a/t/a I call to witness)
  • الَّيۡلِ — Lai-lay — Night (= The opposite of sunlit day; the period between sun-set and the following dawn)
  • اِذَاۤ — Ezaa –When (= Any time or event; now that; whenever)
  • سَجٰى — Sa-jaa — Stills (= Becomes still enveloped in thick dark. Brooding stillness of the night. Calm and quiet of the darkness spread out all around. Gets darkened)

Holy Qor-aan                                                  093:004                                ○    مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلٰى

Ma-wud-da-aa-ka-rub-bo-ka-wa-maa-qa-laa

Your God has not forsaken you nor forgotten you

  • مَا — Maa — Not (= Absolutely not; never; no; not at all)
  • وَدَّعَ — Wud-da-aa — Forsaken (= Bid farewell; forgotten; said good bye)
  • كَ — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. The one male addressee of this divine message is initially the Holy Prophet s.a.w and secondarily every Moslem, in fact every human being. See the Note under 002:005) *
  • رَبُّ — Rub-bo — God (= The Almighty Allah who fills needs of all creatures;
    Cherisher; Creator; Guardian; Master; Lord Provident. The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist)
  • كَ — Ka — Your (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You one man. See كَ above)* 
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • مَا — Maa — Not at all (= Absolutely not; never; no; not at all)
  • قَلٰى — Qa-laa — Forgotten (= Displeased; ignored; turned oblivious. Also, started to abhor or hate)

Holy Qor-aan                                                 093:005                           ○    وَلَـلۡاٰخِرَةُ خَيۡرٌ لَّكَ مِنَ الۡاُوۡلٰى

Wa-lul-aa-khay-ra-to-khai-roon-la-ka-me-nul-oo-laa

And the future is definitely better for you than the past

  • خَيۡرٌ — Khai-roon..(l) — Better (= Glad tiding; good; good news; of greater, higher or more value; holds prospects of a better prize; improved; superior in comparison)
  • لَّ — La — For (= For the attention, benefit, purpose or reason of. With intent to. With the object of. Belongs to)
  • كَ — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. See كَ above)*
  • مِنَ — Min…(ul) — From (= From the class, category, count, kind or person or out of)
  • الۡاُوۡلٰى — Oo-laa — The past (= Earlier; former state; preceding hour; present life)

Holy Qor-aan                                                  093:006                      ○      وَلَسَوۡفَ يُعۡطِيۡكَ رَبُّكَ فَتَرۡضٰى

Wa-la-sao-fa-yoe-tee-ka-rub-bo-ka-fa-tur-dzaa

And surely soon your God will give you so you will be well-pleased

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above)
  • لَ — La — Certainly (= Absolutely; definitely; positively; surely; truly; verily)
  • سَوۡفَ — Sao-fa — Soon (= 1. In near term; in the near future; in a short while; 2. Briskly; Quickly. Swiftly)
  • يُعۡطِي — Yoe-tee — He will give (= Award, bestow, bless, donate, grant and keep adding to the good things and favors)
  • كَ  — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You one man. See كَ above)*
  • رَبُّ — Rub-bo — God (= The Almighty Allah who fills needs of all creatures;
    Cherisher; Creator; Guardian; Master; Lord Provident. The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist)
  • كَ — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You one man. See كَ above)*
  • فَ — Fa — So (= Consequently; as a result; then; thus; therefore; yet)
  • تَرۡضٰى — Tur-dzaa — Well-pleased (= Fill your desires and wants; satisfy; will make you well-pleased, ecstatic, gratified and happy)

Holy Qor-aan                                                   093:007                                   ○   اَلَمۡ يَجِدۡكَ يَتِيۡمًا فَاٰوٰى

Alum-ya-jid-ka-ya-tee-mun-fa-aa-waa

Did He not find your an orphan; so He protected you

  • لَمۡ — Lum — Not (= Never; no, not at all)
  • يَجِد — Ya-jid — He found (= Came upon; discovered; noticed; perceived; saw)

  • يَتِيۡمًا — Ya-tee-mun — Orphan (= Child without one or both parents; helpless; destitute)
  • فَ — Fa — So (= Consequently; as a result; then; thus; therefore; yet)
  • اٰوٰى — Aa-waa — Protected (= Gave or granted refuge; sheltered; took under care)

Holy Qor-aan                                                  093:008                                 ○     وَوَجَدَكَ ضَآ لًّا فَهَدٰى

Wa-wa-ja-ka-dzaa-lun-fa-ha-daa

And He found you lost; so He guided you

  • وَ — Wa –And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above)
  • وَجَدَ — Wa-ja-da — He found (= Came upon, discovered; noticed; perceived; saw)
  • كَ — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You one man. See كَ above)*
  • ضَآ لًّا — Dzaa-lun — Lost (= Searching for the right course. Groping for the right road to take. Not knowing which direction to follow. Bewildered; confused; enamored; erring; searching; unaware; wandering)
  • فَ — Fa — So (= Consequently; as a result; then; thus; therefore; yet)
  • هَدٰى — Ha-daa — He guided (= v., Directed towards the correct way; put on proper path; show the right road)

Holy Qor-aan                                                   093:009                              ○       وَوَجَدَكَ عَآٮِٕلًا فَاَغۡنٰىؕ

Wa-wa-ja-ka-aa-e-lun-fa-ugh-naa

And He found you poor; so He made you rich

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above)
  • وَجَدَ — Wa-ja-da — He found (= Came upon, discovered; noticed; perceived; saw)
  • كَ — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You one man. See كَ above)*
  • عَآٮِٕلًا — Aa-e-lun — Poor (= Destitute; in need; in want; needy; with few comforts or necessities of life; with many dependents to support)

  • اَغۡنٰى — Ugh-na–  Made rich (= Bestowed plenteously; enriched; filled all needs; made self-sufficient and independent; gave far beyond bare necessities) )

Holy Qor-aan                                                  093:010                                     ○     فَاَمَّا الۡيَتِيۡمَ فَلَا تَقۡهَر

Fa-um-mul-ya-tee-ma-fa-laa-tuk-her

Therefore, as far the orphan, so you do not hate

  • تَقۡهَر — Tuk-her — Hate (= Act or treat harshly; be harsh; feel repulsive; oppress; wrong)

Holy Qor-aan                                                   093:011                                  ○    وَاَمَّا السَّآٮِٕلَ فَلَا تَنۡهَرۡ

Wa-um-mus-saa-ela-fa-laa-tun-hur

And as far the petitioner, so you do not rebuke

Wa-um-ma-bay-nae-ma-tay-rub-bay-ka-fa-hud-dith

And as far the blessings of your God, so you talk about it

  • حَدِّثۡ — Hud-dith — You talk (= 1. Bring it in conversation appreciatively, gratefully, and thankfully. 2. Describe; explain; expound; narrate report; proclaim; say; state. 3. Rehearse; show gratitude by doing similar favors to others around; continue proclaiming it; make it your discourse; tell)
