The Holy Qor-aan                                        086:012                                        وَالسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ الرَّجۡعِ ۙ‏

                Wus-sa-maa-ai-zaa-tir-ruj-ay

                By the rains that keep returning

  • وَ — Wa…(us) — And By (= The وَ vaao is tantamount to taking oath; solemn declaration. Call or cite as a witness)
  • السَّمَآءَ — Sa-maa-ai — The rains (= Firmament. Heaven. All above ground or earth and in space above. In the present context refers to the clouds and rains)
  • ذَاتِ — Zaa-t…(ir) — That  (= Controlling. Controller. Giver. Master. Occupant Occupying. Owning. Of. Owning. Owner. People. Possessing. Possessor. With)
  • الرَّجۡعِ — Ruj-ay — The returning (= Recurring, repeating and rotational in cycles. Clouds Drops of water that come down on earth from clouds which are formed again and again.

The Holy Qor-aan                                         086:013                                       وَالۡاَرۡضِ ذَاتِ الصَّدۡعِ ۙ‏

                Wul-ur-dzay-zaa-tis-sud-ay

               And by the earth that has the opening

  • وَ — Wa…(ul) — And By (= The وَ vaao is tantamount to taking oath; solemn declaration. Call or cite as a witness)
  • الۡاَرۡضِ — Ur-dzay –The earth (=1. Area; country; earth; ground; land; soil; territory.  2. Life on earth. 3. Nation; people or society in general)
  • ذَاتِ — Zaa-t…(is) — That has (= Controlling. Controller. Giving. Giver. Master. Occupying. Occupant. Of. Owning. Owner. People. Possessing. Possessor. With)
  • الصَّدۡعِ — Sud-ay — The opening (= Bursting, cracking and splitting to grow and sprout up grasses, greenery, herbage, plants, trees, vegetation and also springs of running water that gush out of earth)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         086:014                                               اِنَّهٗ لَقَوۡلٌ فَصۡلٌ ۙ‏

                 In-na-hoo-la-qao-loon-fus-loon

                Most definitely this is a decisive word

  • اِنَّ — In-na — ,Definitely * (= Absolutely; certainly; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; in all seriousness; positively; really; surely; truly; verily)
  • هٗ — Hoo — This (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Holy Qor-aan)
  • لَ — La — Certainly * (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; in all sincerity; positively; really; surely; truly; verily. * See our Commentary titled “2 Words of Emphasis used together Multiply Effect“)
  • قَوۡلٌ — Qao-loon — Word (= Announcement; declaration; decision; judgment; message; speech; utterance; verdict)
  • فَصۡلٌ — Fus-loon — Decisive (= Conclusive; discerning; discourse; decision-making. Something that distinguishes good from bad, separates the truth from falsehood. A/t/a “Commands strict laws for mankind to cut the roots of evil”)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         086:015 وَّمَا هُوَ بِالۡهَزۡلِ ؕ                                             ‏

                 Wa-maa-ho-wa-bil-huz-lay

                 And it is not packed with the idle talk

  • وَّ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — Not (= Absolutely not; no; never)
  • هُو — Ho-wa — He (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Most translations refer it to the Holy Qor-aan to say that it is not an idle talk. But if the next word بِ is taken into account, then it would apply to the Holy Prophet s.a.w and mean that he did not vouch an idle talk to be the revelations to him which he packed into a book and called it the Holy Qor-aan)
  • بِ — Be…(il) — Packed with (= This word in Arabic literally means ‘with’. Here the word refers to the ‘mixed with’)
  • الۡهَزۡلِ — Ul-huz-lay — The idle talk (= Alleged revelation, conversation, monologue, speech or talk that is fun, idle, unproductive, useless, vain or wasteful. Discourse or discussion serving no purpose.  See our Commentary “The Holy Qor-aan is no joke“)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         086:016                                         اِنَّهُمۡ يَكِيۡدُوۡنَ كَيۡدًا ۙ‏

                In-na-hoom-ya-kee-doo-na-kai-daa

                Surely they plot a plan

  • اِنَّ — In-na — Definitely (= Absolutely; certainly; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; in all seriousness; positively; really; surely; truly; verily)
  • ھُمۡ‌ — Hoom They (= pro., pl, .m., 3rd person. Refers to the men)
  • يَكِيۡدُوۡنَ — Yakee-doo-na — Plot (= v., Devise. Hatch. Make. Plan. Scheme)
  • كَيۡدًا — Kai-daa — A plan (= n., Device. Scheme. Some translations (like that by Zafrulla Khan) have referred such planning to be against the Holy Qor-aan while others (like that by Dr Al-Hilali) have implied it to be against the Holy Prophet s.a.w)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         086:017                                                   وَّاَكِيۡدُ كَيۡدًا ۚۖ‏

                Wa-akee-do-kai-daa

                But I too have a plan

  • وَّ — Wa — But (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; and; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • اَكِيۡدُ — Akee-do — I have (= Devise. Hatch. Have; Make. Plan. Plot. Scheme)
  • كَيۡدًا — Kai-daa — A plan (= Devise. Plot. Scheme. See also the same word in the previous verse)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         086:018 فَمَهِّلِ الۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ اَمۡهِلۡهُمۡ رُوَيۡدًا                                ‏

               Fa-muh-hay-lil-kaa-fe-ree-na-um-hil-hoom-ro-wai-daa

               So bear with the disbelievers.  Give them a little respite.

  • فَ — Fa — So (= Consequently; as a result; then; thereafter; therefore)
  • مَهِّلِ — Muh-hay-lil — Bear with (= Delay. Give time. Leave alone. Leave them to be. Put up with. Respite. Reprieve. Tolerate)
  • الۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ — Kaa-fe-ree-na — Disbelievers (= n., pl., 1.Those who deny, refuse or reject the Faith or belief in Allah, the Holy Qor-aan and Islaam and be a Moslem. 2. Faithless; heretic; infidel; non-believer; rejecter of, resistor to and unbeliever in God. 3 Who act ungratefully and fail to appreciate, thank for, use or utilize God-given abilities, blessings, capabilities, capacities, gifts, opportunities afforded and talents provided by abusing, and misusing them)
  • اَمۡهِلۡ — Um-hil — Give respite (= Bear; delay; give time; grant reprieve; leave alone; leave them to be; put up with; tolerate)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to the disbelievers)
  • رُوَيۡدًا — Ro-wai-daa — A little while (= Briefly, shortly or slowly. For a short time)
