وَقَالَ لَهُمۡ نَبِيُّهُمۡ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ قَدۡ بَعَثَ لَـکُمۡ طَالُوۡتَ مَلِكًا ‌ؕ قَالُوۡٓا اَنّٰى يَكُوۡنُ لَهُ الۡمُلۡكُ عَلَيۡنَا وَنَحۡنُ اَحَقُّ بِالۡمُلۡكِ مِنۡهُ وَلَمۡ يُؤۡتَ سَعَةً مِّنَ الۡمَالِ‌ؕ قَالَ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ اصۡطَفٰٮهُ عَلَيۡکُمۡ وَزَادَه بَسۡطَةً فِى الۡعِلۡمِ وَ الۡجِسۡمِ‌ؕ وَاللّٰهُ يُؤۡتِىۡ مُلۡکَه مَنۡ يَّشَآءُ ‌ؕ وَاللّٰهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيۡمٌ‌ ‌○‏

 

Wa-qaa-la-la-hoom-na-bee-yo-hoom-in-nul-laa-ha                                                                    Qud-ba-aa-tha-la-koom-taa-loo-ta-ma-lay-kun.                                                                        Qaa-loo-un-na-ya-koo-na-la-hool-mool-ko-alai-naa                                                                    Wa-nuh-no-aa-huq-qo-bil-mool-kay-min-ho                                                                              Wa-lum-yoe-ta-sa-aa-tum-may-nul-maa-lay.                                                                             Qaa-la-in-nul-laa-hus-ta-faa-ho-alai-koom                                                                                   Wa-zaa-da-hoo-bus-ta-tun-fil-il-may-wul-jis-may.                                                                  Wul-laa-ho-yoe-tee-mool-ka-hoo-muny-ya-shaa-o                                                                 Wul-laa-hp-waa-se-oon-aleem.

 

And their Prophet said to them, “Surely Allah                                                                Has set up Taloot as a King for you.”                                                                                 They all said, “How can he have the Kinghood on us                                                      And we are more entitled to the Kinghood compared to him                                      And he has not been given abundance of wealth.”                                                         He said, “Allah surely has preferred him over you                                                       And increased him in abundance of knowledge and physique.                                 And Allah gives His power to whomever he chooses.                                                Allah is All-Embracing and is All-Knowing.

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • قَالَ — Qaa-la — Said (= Announced, conveyed; declared, informed, stated, told)
  • لَ  — La — To (= For the benefit, purpose or reason of)
  • ھُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid persons)
  • نَبِيُّ — Na-bee-yo — Prophet (= s., Apostle. God’s messenger; one who brings or reveals new news of event to happen in the future; saint; sage)
  • ھُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid persons)
  • اِنَّ — In-na…(ul) — Surely (= Certainly; definitely; doubtlessly; positively; verily)
  • اللّٰهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • قَدۡ — Qud — Surely (= Word laying emphasis; certainly; definitely, verily)
  • بَعَثَ — Ba-aa-tha — Set up (= v., past., s., 3rd person, Appointed; assigned; designed; established; signed; specified. For some contexts the word also means (1) authorized, deputed, designated, dispatched, empowered and sent; or (2) brought back to life, raised, reincarnated, resurrected or revived)
  •  لَ — La — For (= Above; over; upon)
  • کُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. The Holy Qor-aan states this way when addressing both men and women jointly)
  • طَالُوۡتَ — Taa-loo-ta — Taloot (= Name or alias for David, Saul or Talut is often given)
  • مَلِکًا — Ma-lay-kun — King (= n., s., Authority with absolute power; commander;  controller; emperor; general; leader; monarch; ruler. Sovereign with unlimited powers and the “Controlling Authority”)
  • قَالُوۡا — Qaa-loo — They all said (= Argued; asked, contested; demanded, demurred;  objected; questioned; replied)
  • اَنّٰى — Un-naa — How (= Question filled with surprise; is it possible or reasonable;  how could he or should he be given)
  • يَكُوۡنُ — Ya-koo-no — Can (= Can; use; was. A/t/a, Has the ability to exercise)
  • لَ — La — For (= For the benefit, purpose or reason of)
  • هُ — Hoo…(l) — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid ‘Taloot’)
  • الۡمُلۡكُ — Mool-ko — The Kinghood (= n., For translation of this word as The Supreme Power when used for the Almighty Allah and The Kinghood when used for Man; see Note 002:248)
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — On (= Above; for; on top of; over; upon)
  • نَآ — Naa — Us (= pro., pl., m & f, 1st person. Us all. both genders)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above)
  • نَحۡنُ — Nuh-no — We (= pro., pl., m & f, 1st person. Us all. both genders)
  • اَحَقُّ — Aa-huq-qo — More entitled (= adj., Appropriate. Better justified, equipped or suited. Closer to truth. More deserving, just, right and suited. A/t/a, With better right, greater ability and stronger justification, qualification and suitability)
  • بِ — B…(il) — With (= Entitled to or suited for. The Arabic word  بِ  literally means ‘with’ in English)
  • لۡمُلۡكِ — Mool-kay — The Kinghood (= n., Authority with absolute power.  See الۡمُلۡكُ  above)
  • مِنۡۢ — Min — Compared (= From among; out of the class, category or count of)
  • هُ — Ho — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid ‘Taloot’)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above)
  • لَمۡ — Lum — Not (= Never; no, not at all)
  • يُؤۡتَ — Yoe-ta — Given (= Awarded; bestowed; blessed; gifted; granted; entrusted
  • سَعَةً — Sa-aa-tun — Abundance (= Great quantity; lot of; plenty; plump. Also ‘enough’)
  • مِّنَ — May-na-(ul) — Out of (= From the class, category or count of; out of)
  • الۡمَالِ‌ — Maa-lay — Wealth (= Assets; money; property; prosperity; richness)
  • قَالَ — Qaa-la — He said (= Announced, conveyed; declared, informed, stated, told)
  • اِنَّ — In-na..(ul) — Definitely (= Certainly; doubtlessly; indeed; surely; truly; verily)
  • اللّٰهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • اصۡطَفٰٮ — Us-ta-faa — Preferred (= Chose; elevated; exalted; opted; picked; selected. A/t/a ‘decided that he rules over you’; ‘granted him superiority over you’)
  • هُ — Ho — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid ‘Taloot’)
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — Over (= Above; for; on; on top of; upon)
  • کُمۡ — Koom — You all (= Pronoun refers to all men and women in second person)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above)
  • زَادَ — Zaa-da — Increased (= Gifted, given or granted abundantly; grew him a great deal; multiplied)
  • هٗ — Hoo — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid ‘Taloot’)
  • بَسۡطَةً  — Bus-ta-tun — Abundantly (= As a big package; big bundle; greatly; great deal of; highly; hugely; tremendously.   Also, a large portion; a vast deal; in large quality or quantity)
  • فِى — Fe…(il) — In (= Concerning; during; for; regarding; relative to)
  • الۡعِلۡمِ — Il-may — Knowledge (= n., Awareness; experience; expertise; familiarity with facts; intellect; intelligence know-how; power of mind; solid information accumulated based upon wisdom; intelligence, perfect knowledge, total awareness and  appropriate instruction)
  • وَ — Wa- (ul) — And (= Conj., Links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above)
  • الۡجِسۡمِ‌ — Jis-may — Physique (= n., Bodily very strong; physical strength, power and prowess.  Stature)
  • وَ — Wa…(ul) — And (= Conj., Links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • يُؤۡتِىۡ — Yoe-tee — Gives (=Awards; blesses; bestows; confers; donates; endows; entrusts; gifts; grants)
  • مُلۡکَ — Mool-ka — Kinghood (= n., Authority with absolute power.  See الۡمُلۡكُ  above)
  • هٗ — Hoo — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
  • مَنۡ — Mun…(y) — Whomever (= Any one; whoever; whom; whomsoever)
  • يَّشَآءُ — Ya-shaa-o — He chooses (= Likes; opts; pleases; prefers; selects; wants; wishes)

The following Attributes of Allah are in 002:248, 005:055, etc.

  • وَ — Wa…(ul) — And (= This وَ  vaao is tantamount to taking oath; solemn  declaration or calling as a witness.   Normally a Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; also; and; but; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • وَاسِعٌ — Waa-say-oon — All-Embracing (= superlative form indicates the biggest, the greatest and the highest highlighting that none more than Him is Generous and Enormous Whose Wide Watch extends  everywhere. See also 001:001. All-Pervading. Amply giving. Infinitely Bountiful. Munificent. Lord of vast bounty. Vastly Sufficient. Omnipresent. Who fills needs of all His creatures. Persistently plentiful in Abundance. Unimaginably Expansive is Generous and Enormous Whose Wide Watch extends to everywhere.  All-Pervading.  Amply giving.  Infinitely Bountiful.  Munificent.  Omnipresent. Unimaginably  Expansive. Vastly Sufficient)
  • عَلِيۡمٌ– Aleem — All-Knowing (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him knows, is knowing. Informed to the maximum.   Has total and perfect knowledge.   Has nothing out of sight.  See also 001:001. Knows all.  Well-Acquainted.  Well-Aware.  Most Knowledgeable)

 

** Note 002:248. (= n., The best translation for the word  الۡمُلۡكُ  is ‘The Supreme Power’ when it is used for the Almighty Allah and ’The Kinghood’ when used for man. But it also means absolute authority with command, control, domain, dominion, fiefdom, kingdom, kinghood, kingship, leadership, fiefdom, monarchy, power, realm, reign, rule and sovereignty. Its meanings include  the area, country, empire, land or territories which one rules with independence and liberty)
