مَا كَانَ لِبَشَرٍ اَنۡ يُّؤۡتِيَهُ اللّٰهُ الۡكِتٰبَ وَالۡحُكۡمَ وَالنُّبُوَّةَ ثُمَّ يَقُوۡلَ لِلنَّاسِ كُوۡنُوۡا عِبَادًا لِّىۡ مِنۡ دُوۡنِ اللّٰهِ وَلٰـكِنۡ كُوۡنُوۡا رَبَّانِيّٖنَ بِمَا كُنۡتُمۡ تُعَلِّمُوۡنَ الۡكِتٰبَ وَبِمَا كُنۡتُمۡ تَدۡرُسُوۡنَۙ‏

 

Maa-kaa-na-lay-ba-sha-rin-un-yoe-tee-hool-laa-hool                                                                  Kay-taa-ba-wul-hook-ma-wun-na-boo-wa-ta                                                                        Thoom-ma-ya-qoo-lo-lin-naa-say                                                                                                    Koo-noo-ebaa-un-lee-min-doo-nil-laa-hay                                                                               Wa-laa-kin-koo-noo-rub-baa-nee-na                                                                                                Bay-maa-koon-toom-to-ul-lay-moo-nul-kay-taa-ba-wa                                                              Bay-maa-koon-toom-tud-ro-soo-n

           

It never is appropriate for any man that Allah grants him                                           The Book, the Judgment and the Prophethood                                                               Then he says to the people, “Be subservient to me instead of Allah.”                      Instead they exhort you to be devotees                                                                                Because you have been knowing the Book and                                                            Because you have been giving lessons in it.

 

  • مَاۤ — Maa — Never (= Absolutely not; never; no; not at all)
  • كَانَ — Kaa-na — Appropriate (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person., Being, had been, used to or went on continuously. Implied meanings include befit, behoove, plausible, possible, proper, suit or suitable)
  • لِ — Lay — For (= Concerning; regarding; relative to; so that)
  • بَشَر — Ba-sha-rin — Man (= n., Human being; mortal. A/t/a, pious, righteous or truthful person)
  • اَنۡ — Un — That (= For the reason; so that)
  • يُّؤۡتِيَ — Yoe-tay-ya — He grants (= v., pres., Awards; bestows; blesses; confers; gifts; gives hands down; reveals; sends)
  • هُ — Ho…(ol) — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid person)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho..(ol) — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • الۡكِتٰبَ — Ul-kay-taa-ba — The Book (= 1. The Divine Directive of Commands, Prohibitions, Rules and Regulations. Holy Scripture. Perfect Book Testament that holds good and is operative eternally. Decreed part of a religion. Spiritual Code codifying the rules of universal application. 2. The Collection of mandated, ordered, prescribed, preserved, recorded, written Do’s and Don’ts.  3. Authentic penned down material in black and white)
  • وَ — Wa…(ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; also; but; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • الۡحُكۡمَ — Hook-ma — The Judgment (= n., Authority. Ruler. Administration; decision making; dominion; management; office of being a judge; power; sovereignty. Endowed with knowledge, understanding of the laws of religion and wisdom. One with money,  ostensible power and worldly authority and so open to succumb to greed and corruption)
  • وَ — Wa…(un) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • النُّبُوَّةَ — Na-boo-wa-ta — The prophethood (= n., The mission that God Almighty gives to man as His messenger, prophet, apostle, saint or sage to improve his society by removing evil, promoting piety, forecasting future and revealing coming events. A/t/a, ‘Prophethood’ and ‘Prophetic Office’)
  • ثُمَّ — Thoom-ma — Then (= After that; further more; subsequently; thereafter. A/t/a,  Afterwards)
  • يَقُولُ — Ya-qoo-lo — He says (= v., pres, s, m, 3rd person., Announces; calls; broadcasts; conveys; declares; demands; directs; explains; informs; expounds; instructs; preaches; professes; responds; specifies; states; tells)
  • لِ — L …(in) — To (= Concerning; regarding; relative to; so that; to; towards)
  • النَّا سِ — Naa-say — The people (= Factions, folks, mankind, groups, men, nations or tribes of human beings. All people regardless of color, creed, culture or country of origin)
  • كُوۡنُوۡا — Koo-noo — You become (= v., pl., 2nd person.., You be, do, follow or implement  now and forever after into the future)
  • عِبَادًا — Ebaa-done — Servants (= pl., Believers who worship earnestly; bondsmen; obedient people; servants; slaves; subservient; supplicants; worshipers true believers who worship earnestly)
  • لِ — Lay — For to (= Concerning; regarding; relative to; so that; to; towards)
  • ى — Ee — Me (= Refers to s., m / f., 1st person. I. Me, My)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among or out of the class, category, count or persons)
  • دُوۡنِ — Doo-nay..(il) — Instead of (= Apart from; besides; except; excluding; exclusive of;  in preference to; other than; over and beyond; save; to the exclusion of the rest of)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)’
  • لٰـكِنۡ — Laa-kin — But (= However; instead; nevertheless; yet)
  • كُوۡنُوۡا     Koo-noo — You become (= v., pl., 2nd person.., You do, follow and implement now and forever after into the future)
  • رَبَّانِيّٖنَ — Rub-baa-ne-ye-na — Devotees (= n., pl., Companions. Dedicatees. Devout. Disciples. Hosts. Supporters The worshipers of the Almighty God who really, sincerely, totally, truly and wholly are devout godly people, obedient and subservient to Him. Loyal followers and practitioners of the religion who preach others what they do themselves as exhorted in the verses 061:003/004. Religiously learned men who  are pious and righteous)

  • تُمۡ — Toom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. The Holy Qor-aan states this way when addressing both men and women jointly
  • تُعَلِّمُوۡنَ — To-ul-lay-moo-na…(ul) — Knowing  *  (= v., pres., Learning; studying yourself)
  • الۡكِتٰبَ — Ul-kay-taa-ba — The Book (= 1. The Divine Directive of Commands. See الۡكِتٰبَ above)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)’
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word  بِ  means ‘with’)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — All that (= 1. What; whatever; whatsoever.  2. Any time; at such time; when; whenever)

  • تُمۡ — Toom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. The Holy Qor-aan states this way when addressing both men and women jointly
  • تَدۡرُسُوۡنَ — Tud-ro-soo-n — Giving lessons   *  (= v., Imparting knowledge. Coaching, instructing, teaching, tutoring or training others in the matters of religion attentively, conscientiously, earnestly and sincerely)

* Note 003:080.  The literal meanings of the Arabic words from the root of ع ل م include ‘acquiring knowledge’ for oneself and those from the root of    د  ر  س   include ‘imparting knowledge’ to others.

            Yet, some translators have translated  تُعَلِّمُوۡنَ    [To-ul-lay-moo-na = Knowing] as ‘teaching others’, and   تَدۡرُسُوۡنَ  [Tud-ro-soo-na = Giving lessons] as ‘you study it’.
