The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                     003:100

 

قُلۡ يٰۤـاَهۡلَ الۡكِتٰبِ لِمَ تَصُدُّوۡنَ عَنۡ سَبِيۡلِ اللّٰهِ مَنۡ اٰمَنَ تَبۡغُوۡنَهَا عِوَجًا وَّاَنۡتُمۡ شُهَدَآءُ ‌ؕ وَمَا اللّٰهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعۡمَلُوۡنَ‏

 

Qool-yaa-aah-lul-kay-taa-bay                                                                                                           Lay-ma-ta-sood-do-na-un-sa-bee-lil-laa-hay-mun-aa-ma-na                                                    Tub-ta-ghoo-na-haa-aiy-wa-jun-wa-un-toom-sho-ha-daa-o                                                      Wa-mul-laa-ho-bay-ghaa-fay-lin-um-maa-tau-ma-loo-n.

 

Say, listen the People of Book!                                                                                            Why do you hinder from the path of Allah him who has believed                          Trying to mislead and you surely know as witnesses.                                                  And Allah is not unmindful relative to what you do.

 

  • قُلۡ — Qool — Say (= You Affirm, announce, broadcast, convey, call on others, declare, elaborate, explain, expound, inform preach, pray, profess, reply, specify, state or tell.  See Commentary titled as ‘You say’ means…)
  • يٰۤ — Yaa — Listen (= Be attentive; hearken; pay attention; O!)
  • اَهۡلَ — Aah-la…(ul) — People of (= Believers; citizens; folks; friends; masters; owners, people; population; supporters; those belonging to; those entrusted to; users)
  • الۡكِتٰبِ — Ul-Kay-taa-bay — The Book (= n., The Divine Directive of Commands, Prohibitions and Regulations. Holy Scripture. See 002:003)
  • لِمَ — Lay-ma — Why (= How come; why is it)
  • تَصُدُّوۡنَ — Ta-sood-do-na– You hinder (= v., pres., Debar. Drive away. Drive back. Interrupt. Obstruct. Restrain. Stop. Also, disregard; heedless; ignore; inattentive; unconcerned. attach little or no importance. Pay no attention. Show no concern)
  • عَنۡ — Un — From (= About; concerning; regarding; relative to)
  • سَبِيۡلِ — Sa-bee-l..(il) — Road (= An appropriate, correct, proper, right or straight course, direction, highway, line, passage, path, route or way to please. The cause, way or multiple ways)
  • اللّٰهِ‌ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • مَنۡ — Mun — Who (= Anyone; whoever; whom; whomever; whoso)
  • اٰمَنَ — Aa-ma-na — He Believed (= v., past., s., 3rd person., Believed in the Holy Qor-aan, became Moslems and entered in the Faith of Isslaam — See the explanation in our Commentary Islam – 101. Also, he made peace, protected, rescued, saved or secured himself from sin and against fear)
  • تَبۡغُوۡنَ — Tub-ghoo-na — Trying (= v., pres., Aspiring; craving; desiring; pursuing; seeking; wanting; wishing)
  • هَا — Haa — It (= pro., s., f., 3rd person., Refers to aforesaid road to Allah)
  • عِوَجًا — Aiy-wa-jaa — Mislead (= To make it … crooked, detoured, deviated, perverse, not straight or wrong)
  • وَّ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but;  also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • اَنۡ — Un — Surely (= Absolutely; certainly; definitely; positively; verily)
  • تُمۡ — Toom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. The Holy Qor-aan states this way when addressing both men and women jointly
  • شُهَدَآءُ — Sho-ha-daa-o — Witnesses (= Testifying; verifying)

The Phrase Wa-mul-laa-ho-bay-ghaa … is used frequently. See Note 002:075b.

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • مَا — Ma…(ul) — Not (= No; not; not at all; never)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= This word in Arabic literally means ‘with’)
  • غَافِلٍ — Ghaa-fay-lin — Unmindful (= Forgetful. Heedless; Ignorant. Unaware)
  • عَمَّا — Um-ma — Relative to what (= This is a combination of two words. The first word عَنۡ (un) means about, concerning, regarding, relative to. The second word مَاۤ (maa) means all that or what. عَمَّا means about, concerning, regarding that or what. A/t/a, ‘what,’ ‘that which,’ ‘all the things,’ ‘that’ and ‘all that (evil)’
  • تَعۡمَلُوۡنَ — Tau-ma-loo-na — You do (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Act; activate; attempt; carry out; effect; exercise; execute; function; go; make out; implement; operate; perform; practice; render; serve; run-through; work-out. See Note 002:075b)
