وَكَذٰلِكَ فَتَـنَّا بَعۡضَهُمۡ بِبَـعۡضٍ لِّيَـقُوۡلُـوۡۤا اَهٰٓؤُلَآءِ مَنَّ اللّٰهُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ مِّنۡۢ بَيۡنِنَا ؕ اَلَـيۡسَ اللّٰهُ بِاَعۡلَمَ بِالشّٰكِرِيۡنَ

 

Wa-ka-za-lay-ka-fa-tun-naa-bau-dzo-hoom-bay-bau-dzin                                                        Lay-ya-qoo-loo-aa-haa-o-laa-aiy                                                                                                  Mun-nul-laa-ho-alai-him-min-bai-nay-naa                                                                                 Aa-lai-sul-laa-ho-bay-au-la-ma-bish-shaa-kay-ree-n

 

And this is how We tested some of them with others                                                    So that they say, “Are these whom                                                                                Allah has favored from among us?”                                                                                      Is not Allah Well Aware of the grateful?

    

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • كَ — Ka — Like (= Identical; resembling; similar to the one stated in prior verse to. Take the example or similitude of)
  • ذٰلِكَ — Zaa-lay-ka — This is (= Here; refers to an aforesaid fact, person or statement; it’s because; right here; such is this; that is how it is. A/t/a, ‘in like manner,’ ‘in this manner,’ ‘in this way,’ ‘even so’ and (for the above three words jointly) ‘thus’ )
  • فَتَـن — Fa-tun — Tested (= v., past., pl., 1st person. Analyzed. Assayed. Checked. Examined. Investigated. Put on trial. Quizzed. Tried, A/t/a, ‘have made … means  for testing’ and ‘have … made a distinction.’ But ‘try’ in the present tense is no translation of the past tense in the Holy Qor-aan)
  • نَآ — Naa — Us (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our; Us. Used with God’s name this plural is the authoritative way a higher-up talks)
  • بَعۡضَ — Bau-dza — Some of (= A few, part, piece, fraction or portion of)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word  بِ  means with. A/t/a, ‘with,’ ‘by,’ ‘by comparison’ and ‘from the other’)
  • بَـعۡضٍ — Bau-dzin — Some (= A few, part, piece, fraction or portion of)
  • لِّ — Lay — So that (= For the object, person, purpose or reason of; intended for. A/t/a, ‘so that seeing them they should,’ ‘that’ and ‘with the result that’)
  • يَـقُوۡلُـوۡۤا — Ya-qoo-loo — They say (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Announce; argue; assert;  inform; maintain; observe; remark; profess; state; tell. A/t/a, ‘they may say,’ ‘they should say’ and ‘they may ask’)
  • اَ — Aa — Are (= Words asking a question like are, can, do, have, shell or will? A/t/a, ‘Is’)
  • هٰٓؤُلَآءِ — Haa-o-laa-aiy — These (= pl., All these. A/t/a, ‘these lowly ones,’ ‘it these,’ ‘it these (poor believers),’ ‘these the ones whom,’ ‘these they,’ ‘the ones’ and ‘these the men’)
  • مَنَّ — Mun-na — Favored (= v., past., s., 3rd person., Did a favor. Favored. Preferred. Treated kindly and nicely. Was specially gracious. A/t/a, ‘conferred benefit,’ ‘singled out for His favours,’ ‘has favoured,’ ‘has favoured (by choosing them)’ and ‘has been gracious to.’ But ‘whom … favours’ or ‘whom … favoureth’ in the present tense is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From among (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘amongst’)
  • بَيۡنِ — Bai-nay — Between (= Ahead, facing or in front of; Among; betwixt)
  • نَآ — Naa — Us (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our; us; we)
  • اَ — Aa — Is (= Word asks a question. See  اَ  above. A/t/a, ‘Doth,’ ‘Does’ and ‘But does’)
  • لَيۡسَ — Lai-sa … (ul) — Not (= Absolute denial; never; not at all; total negation)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with)
  • اَعۡلَمَ — Au-la-ma — Well Aware (= adj., To the nth degree … Aware, experienced, familiar, informed or knowing. Also, where the text indicates, as a v., pres., s., 1st person this word means I know more and best. A/t/a, ‘knows best,’ ‘know best,’ ‘best aware’ and ‘best know’)
  • بِ — Bay … (ish) — With (= Literally the word  بِ  means with. A/t/a, ‘who are’)
  • الشّٰكِرِيۡنَ‏ — Shaa-kay-ree-n — The grateful (= n., pl., Those who are appreciative, grateful or thankful. Those who use and utilize the God-Given-Gifts fully and appropriately. A/t/a, ‘thanksgivers’ and ‘the thankful’)

وَلَا تَطۡرُدِ الَّذِيۡنَ يَدۡعُوۡنَ رَبَّهُمۡ بِالۡغَدٰوةِ وَالۡعَشِىِّ يُرِيۡدُوۡنَ وَجۡهَهٗ‌ ؕ  مَا عَلَيۡكَ مِنۡ حِسَابِهِمۡ مِّنۡ شَىۡءٍ وَّمَا مِنۡ حِسَابِكَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ مِّنۡ شَىۡءٍ فَتَطۡرُدَهُمۡ فَتَكُوۡنَ مِنَ الظّٰلِمِيۡنَ

 

Wa-laa-tut-ro-dil-la-zee-na-yud-oo-na-rub-ba-hoom                                                                  Bil-gha-daa-wa-tay-wul-aa-she-yay-yo-re-do-na-wuj-ha-hoo                                                  Maa-alai-ka-min-hay-saa-bay-him-min-shai-in                                                                          Wa-maa-min-hay-saa-bay-ka-alai-him-min-shai-in                                                                    Fa-tut-ro-da-hoom-fa-ta-koo-na-may-nuz-zaa-lay-mee-n 

 

And do not repel those who pray to their God,                                                                Day and night seeking His approval.                                                                                    Not upon you is any accountability for them and                                                          Not upon them is any accountability for you.                                                                    So, if you repel them, then you become among the wrongdoers.

  • رَبَّ — Rub-ba == The Lord God, The Provider (= The Almighty Allah who fills all needs of all His creatures; Creator; Master; One Who Sustain; The Lord provident; The Ultimate Provider of Air, water, food and whatever we need to live and subsist)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • بِ — B … (il) — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with. A/t/a, ‘at’ and ‘in’)
  • الۡغَدٰوةِ — Gha-daa-wa-tay — The day (= n., Early morning. Soon after sun is up. A/t/a, ‘morning’ and ‘morn’)
  • وَ — Wa … (ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • الۡعَشِىِّ — Aa-she-yay — The night (= n., Early evening; hours or time after sunset. A/t/a,  evening’ and ‘afternoon’)
  • يُرِيۡدُوۡنَ — Yo-re-do-na — Seeking (= v., pres., 3rd person. Men with a distinct possibility to never reach their planned goal, the accurate translation of this word is aim, aspire, choose, conform, covet, crave, desire, go after, hanker, like, long, plan, pursue,  scheme, seek, wish, want or yearn. See Note 002:186. A/t/a, ‘seeking’ and ‘they desire’)
  • وَجۡهَ — Wuj-ha — Approval (= n., s. Face or the front part. First and the most visible,   identifiable, recognizable and loveable part. Refers to approval, attention, benevolence, grace and kindness. A/t/a, ‘face,’ ‘countenance,’ ‘pleasure,’ ‘only … pleasure’ and ‘only to gain His favour’)
  • هٗ — Hoo — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
  • مَاۤ  — Maa — Not at all (= Never; no; not; none at all. A/t/a, ‘naught art,’ ‘art not,’  ‘Neither art,’ ‘neither are’ and ‘not by any means’)
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — On (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; on top of; over. A/t/a, ‘responsibility’)
  • كَ — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You single male. A/t/a, ‘thou’ and ‘Thou art.’ The addressee of this divine message is initially the Holy Prophet s.a.w, and secondarily all Moslems, in fact any human who practices, professes and presents Iss.laam as revealed in the Holy Qor-aan. See Note 002:005)

وَاَنۡذِرۡ بِهِ الَّذِيۡنَ يَخَافُوۡنَ اَنۡ يُّحۡشَرُوۡۤا اِلٰى رَبِّهِمۡ‌ لَـيۡسَ لَهُمۡ مِّنۡ دُوۡنِهٖ وَلِىٌّ وَّلَا شَفِيۡعٌ لَّعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَّقُوۡنَ

 

Waun-zir-bay-hil-la-zee-na-ya-khaa-foo-na                                                                                    Un-yoh-sha-roo-elaa-rub-bay-him                                                                                                    Lai-sa-la-hoom-min-do-nay-he                                                                                                      Wa-lee-yoon-wa-laa-sha-fee-oon                                                                                                      La-ul-la-hoom-yut-ta-qoo-n

           

And warn with it those who fear                                                                                         That they will be gathered to their God —                                                                            Not for them other than Him is a                                                                                           Friend and no Intercessor —                                                                                                  That they may be pious.

قُلْ لَّاۤ اَقُوۡلُ لَـكُمۡ عِنۡدِىۡ خَزَآٮِٕنُ اللّٰهِ وَلَاۤ اَعۡلَمُ الۡغَيۡبَ وَلَاۤ اَقُوۡلُ لَـكُمۡ اِنِّىۡ مَلَكٌ‌ ۚ اِنۡ اَتَّبِعُ اِلَّا مَا يُوۡحٰٓى اِلَىَّ‌ ؕ قُلۡ هَلۡ يَسۡتَوِى الۡاَعۡمٰى وَالۡبَصِيۡرُ‌ ؕ اَفَلَا تَتَفَكَّرُوۡنَ

 

Qool-laa-aa-qoo-lo-la-koom                                                                                                                  In-dee-kha-zaa-aiy-nool-laa-hay-wa-laa-au-la-mol-ghai-ba                                                    Wa-laa-aa-qoo-lo-la-koom-in-nee-ma-la-koon                                                                              Aiy-nut-ta-bay-o-il-la-maa-yoo-haa-aiy-luy-ya

Qool-hul-yus-ta-wil-au-maa-waul-ba-see-r                                                                                Aa-fa-laa-ta-ta-fuk-ka-roo-n

 

Say, “I do not say to you that with me                                                                                  Are the treasures of Allah, and I do not know the unseen,                                          And I do not say to you that I am an angel.                                                                        I follow only what is revealed to me.”

Say, “Could the blind and the seer be equal?                                                                    Won’t you think about all this?”

وَالَّذِيۡنَ كَذَّبُوۡا بِاٰيٰتِنَا يَمَسُّهُمُ الۡعَذَابُ بِمَا كَانُوۡا يَفۡسُقُوۡنَ

 

Wa-ul-la-zee-na-kuz-za-boo-bay-aa-yaa-tay-naa                                                                        Ya-mus-so-ho-mool-aa-zaa-bo                                                                                                        Bay-maa-kaa-noo-yauf-so-qoo-n

 

And those who belied Our signs,                                                                                        The punishment reaches them                                                                                              Because they used to misbehave.

Touches. A/t/a, ‘befalls,’ ‘will touch,’ ‘will afflict’ and ‘shall afflict.’ But ‘shall be punished’ is inaccurate translation)
  • هُمُ — Ho-mo..(ol) — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • الۡعَذَابُ — Azaa-bo — The punishment (= n., Appropriate, due and fair agony, chastisement, doom; hard task, penalty, recompense; torment, torture or Scourge)
  • بِمَا — Bay-maa — Because (= Combination of two words.  بِ  means ‘with / in’ and  مَاۤ  means ‘all that, whatever, whatsoever or whenever.’ The combination بِمَا (bay-maa) means ‘because of; on account of; for the reason; due to; with / in all that. A/t/a,  ‘because of’ and ‘for’)
  • كَانُوۡۤا — Kaa-noo — Had been (= v., past., pl., m., 3rd person. Continued doing; used to;  went on; were doing. Words has or had always been indicate endless continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. A/t/a, ‘they’)

وَمَا نُرۡسِلُ الۡمُرۡسَلِيۡنَ اِلَّا مُبَشِّرِيۡنَ وَمُنۡذِرِيۡنَ‌ۚ  فَمَنۡ اٰمَنَ وَاَصۡلَحَ فَلَا خَوۡفٌ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ يَحۡزَنُوۡنَ

Wa-maa-noor-say-lool-moor-sa-le-na-il-laa                                                                                  Mo-baush-shay-re-na-wa-mon-zay-re-na                                                                                        Fa-mun-aa-ma-na-wa-us-la-ha-fa-laa                                                                                            Khao-foon-alai-him-wa-laa-hoom-yauh-za-noo-n

 

We never send the messengers except                                                                                As the bearers of good news and carriers of warnings.                                                  So, whoever believed and reformed, then no                                                                Fear upon them and they shall not grieve.

Say, “Have you seen if came upon you                                                                                 The wrath of Allah suddenly or openly.                                                                          Will anyone except the wrongdoing folks be destroyed?

Qool-aa-ra-aye-toom-in-aa-kha-zaul-laa-ho                                                                                  Sum-aa-koom-wa-ub-saa-ra-koom                                                                                                  Wa-kha-ta-ma-alaa-qo-loo-bay-koom                                                                                            Mun-elaa-hoon-ghai-rool-laa-hay-yau-tee-koom-bay-he

Oon-zoor-kai-fa-noos-ray-fool-aa-yaa-tay                                                                                    Thoom-ma-hoom-yus-day-foo-n

 

Say, “Have you seen if Allah took away                                                                              Your hearing and your seeing                                                                                                And put a seal upon your hearts,                                                                                        Who is a god besides Allah who can come to you with it.”

** Note 006:057. Some authors added the words ‘physically and spiritually’ to all three actions of hearing, seeing and thinking mentioned in this verse. And yet many failed to convey the following important aspect described in the last two words of this verse.

Used is  هُمۡ‌  for the pronoun for 3rd person. Then it is followed by  يَصۡدِفُوۡنَ  for the verb for 3rd person. Such use of words doubly emphasizes the fact that it is the same very people in the 3rd person who invariably turn away. This states another rule of universal application.

Fa-qo-tay-aa-daa-bay-rool-qao-mil-la-zee-na-za-la-moo                                                        Wul-hum-do-lil-laa-hay-rub-bil-aa-la-mee-n

 

So, even the end of the people who had wronged was cut off.                              And all thanks are due to Allah, the Lord God of the Universe.

 

  • فَ  — Fa — Then (= After all this; at the end; consequently; finally; hence; in conclusion; so; thereafter; therefore; thus and ‘In this way’)
  • قُطِعَ — Qo-tay-aa — Cut off (= v., past., pass., s. 3rd person. Axed. Chopped off. Hewn.  Hacked. Severed. A/t/a, ‘completely rooted out,’ ‘totally uprooted’ and ‘annihilated’)
  • دَابِرُ — Daa-bay-ro … (ol) — The end (= n., The ending part; those who are at the rear end of a group; the rear enders. A/t/a, ‘last remnant’ and ‘roots’)
  • الۡقَوۡمِ — Qao-m .. (il)  — People (= n., s., Addressees; attendees; fellows; followers; folks;   nation; party; people; tribe)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those articles, persons, or phenomenon or things in masculine gender)
  • ظَلَمُوۡا — Zaa-la-moo — Wronged (= v., past., pl.,3rd person. Acted badly. Behaved wickedly. Caused evil. Committed crimes or cruelty. Did injustice. Harmed. Maltreated. Shortened. Transgressed. Treated improperly or unjustly. Violated rights of others. A/t/a, ‘did wrong’ and ‘had acted wrongfully.’ However, the nouns such as the ‘wicked,’ ‘unrighteous,’ ‘transgressors’ and ‘evil-doers’ are no translations of the verb in the   past tense that the Holy Qor-aan has used)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)

The following text in verse 001:002 is repeated in verses 006:046 and 039:076.

  • اَلۡ — Ul — The (= This Arabic word expresses two distinct meanings. 1. The Particular One.  2 – All in a category; real; total. Together they convey what is the best, the tops)
  • حَمۡدُ  — Hum-do — Thanks (= Appreciation; gratitude; praise. A/t/a, ‘(So it proved that) all perfect and true praise,’ ‘be praised’ and ‘praise and thanks’)
  • لِلۡ — Lil — For (= Concerning; regarding; relative to; with intent, reason; regard to; for the attention, benefit, object or purpose of. A/t/a, ‘belongs’)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • رَبِّ — Rub-b..(il) — The Lord God (= The Almighty Allah who fills all needs of all His creatures; Creator; Master; One Who Sustain; The Lord provident; The Ultimate Provider of Air, water, food and whatever we need to live and subsist)   (= The Almighty Allah who fills all needs of all creatures)
  • الۡعٰلَمِيۡنَۙ‏ — Aa-la-meen — The Universe (= n., pl., Creations; lives; mankind and all creatures;  worlds. See also Note 081:030. A/t/a, ‘all the worlds,’ ‘the Creation’  and ‘Alamin (mankind, jinn and all that exists’)

فَلَمَّا نَسُوۡا مَا ذُكِّرُوۡا بِهٖ فَتَحۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ اَبۡوَابَ كُلِّ شَىۡءٍ ؕ حَتّٰٓى اِذَا فَرِحُوۡا بِمَاۤ اُوۡتُوۡۤا اَخَذۡنٰهُمۡ بَغۡتَةً فَاِذَا هُمۡ مُّبۡلِسُوۡنَ‏

 

Fa-lum-maa-na-soo-maa-zook-kay-roo-bay-he                                                                              Fa-tah-naa-alai-him-ub-waa-ba-kool-lay-shay-in                                                                        Hut-ta-ezaa-fa-ray-hoo-bay-maa-oo-too                                                                                      Aa-khuz-naa-hoom-bugh-ta-ton-fa-ezaa-hoom-moob-lay-soo-n

 

So surely when they forgot with what they were reminded                                          We opened on them the doors of everything,                                                                    Until when they became ecstatic with what they were given                                        We caught them suddenly and then they were in depression.

 

  • فَ — Fa — Then (= After all this; at the end; consequently; finally; hence; so; thereafter; therefore; thus. A/t/a, ‘But’)
  • لَمَّا — Lum-maa — Surely when (= This combines two words. The first word لَ (=la) means absolutely, certainly, positively, surely, truly or verily. The second word ما  (= maa) means at such time, when and whenever. A/t/a, ‘Say’)
  • نَسُوۡا — Na-soo — They forgot (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Became ignorant or oblivious. A/t/a, ‘they forgot (the warning),’ ‘they neglected,’ ‘they abandoned’ and ‘clean forgotten’)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — All that (= What; whatever; whatsoever; at such time; when. A/t/a, ‘warning,’ ‘that with which,’ ‘with which,’ that whereof’ and ‘the admonition’)
  • ذُكِّرُوۡا — Zook-kay-roo — Were reminded (= v., past., pass., pl., 3rd person. Directed to remember; instructed to recall; brought in active memory; told. A/t/a, ‘they had been reminded,’ ‘they had been admonished,’ ‘they had been given’ and ‘they had received.’  But the noun in ‘Our admonition’ is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has described with a verb)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word  بِ  means with)
  • هٖ — He — It (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the aforesaid thing)
  • فَتَحۡ — Fa-tah — Opened (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Disclosed; laid bare; informed; revealed; shown; told; unfolded; won with victory. A/t/a, ‘bestowed’ and ‘granted’)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our; Us. Used with God’s name this is the authoritative way a higher-up talks)
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — On (= Above; against; before; for; on; on top of; over. A/t/a, ‘for,’ ‘upon.’  ‘unto’ and ‘to’)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • اَبۡوَابَ — Ub-waa-ba — Doors (= n., pl., Doors; entrances; entry ways; gates. A/t/a, ‘the abundance of’)
  • كُلِّ — Kool-lay — Every (= n., All; altogether; everyone; everything without any exception; in every manner; total; very much; whole. A/t/a, ‘all’ and ‘Of all (good).’ For this and the next word ‘everything’ and ‘every (pleasant) thing’)
  • شَىۡءٍ  — Shai-in — Thing (= n., s., Anything at all however little or insignificant. A whit. Smallest part of an article, item, object, material, thing, matter, type, phenomenon or stuff. To the least extent. Also, Some, something or somewhat. A/t/a, ‘things’ and ‘they desired’)
  • حَتّٰى — Hut-ta — Until (= By the end of the period or term; till the time. A/t/a, ‘till’)
  • اِذَا — Ezaa — When (= At the time or event; call to mind; recall; remember; think of the time, event, occasion or opportunity. A/t/a, ‘when,’ ‘even as,’ ‘but just as’ and ‘in the midst of’)
  • فَرِحُوۡا — Fa-ray-hoo — Became ecstatic (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Euphoric. Gleeful. Jubilant. Joyous. Rapturous. Celebrated fun, overjoyed, rejoiced, were merry making or very happy. A/t/a, ‘they became exultant,’ ‘they were in a state of exultation,’ ‘Of their enjoyment,’ ‘they were rejoicing,’ ‘they rejoiced’ and ‘they began to boast’)
  • بِمَا — Bay-maa — With what (= Combination of two words. بِ  means ‘with / in’ and  مَاۤ means all that, whatever, whatsoever or whenever. The combination بِمَا  (bay-maa) means ‘because of; on account of; for the reason; due to; with / in all that. A/t/a, ‘over that which,’ ‘in that which,’ ‘at what,’ ‘in what’ and over what’)
  • اُوۡتُوۡۤا — Oo-too — They were given (= v., past., pass., pl., 3rd person. Awarded; bestowed; conferred; entrusted; gifted; granted; made responsible for. A/t/a, ‘they had been given.’ However, the noun in ‘Our gifts’ is no translation of the verb which the Holy Qor-aan has used here)
