○ وَقَالُوٓاْ إِنۡ هِىَ إِلَّا حَيَاتُنَا ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَبۡعُوثِينَ

 

Wa-qaa-loo-in-hay-ya-il-laa-ha-yaa-to-nud-doon-ya                                                                  Wa-maa-nah-no-bay-mub-oo-thay-nee-n

 

And they said, “Surely this here is nothing except our present life                      And we are not those resurrected.”

  • حَيَاتُ — Ha-yaa-to — Life  (= n., A creature’s condition of breathing by inhaling and  exhaling. The quality shown by functions among other of growth and response to stimulation and reproduction by which living organisms are distinguished from dead organisms and inanimate matter. Extensions in living. Peaceful life with safety and security. Any measure to save and safeguard life, A/t/a, ‘(present) life’ and ‘this … present life’)
  • نَآ  — Naa —  Our (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our; Us. Used with God’s name this is the authoritative way a higher-up talks)
  • ٱلدُّنۡيَا — Doon-yaa — The present (= n., Close at hand. Life … on earth, in the near or short term. The near life, of this world. The near one. The World at hand with its benefits, happiness or pleasures. The Hither, the opposite of the Hereafter or Life after death. ○ بَلۡ بَدَا لَهُمۡ مَّا كَانُوۡا يُخۡفُوۡنَ مِنۡ قَبۡلُ‌ؕ  وَلَوۡ رُدُّوۡا لَعَادُوۡا لِمَا نُهُوۡا عَنۡهُ  وَاِنَّهُمۡ لَـكٰذِبُوۡنَ

 

Bul-ba-daa-la-hoom-maa-kaa-noo-yookh-foo-na-min-qub-lo                                              Wa-lao-roo-do-la-aa-do-lay-maa-no-hoo-un-ho                                                                        Wa-in-na-hoom-la-kaa-zay-boo-n

 

The fact that manifested for them is from what they used to hide before.        And if returned, surely they would repeat from what they were stopped.            And they certainly are the liars.

  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)

○ وَلَوۡ تَرَىٰٓ إِذۡ وُقِفُواْ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ فَقَالُواْ يَـٰلَيۡتَنَا نُرَدُّ وَلَا نُكَذِّبَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ رَبِّنَا وَنَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ

 

Wa-lao-ta-raa-iz-wo-qay-foo-aa-lun-naa-ray-fa-qaa-loo                                                        Yaa-lai-ta-naa-no-rud-do                                                                                                                Wa-laa-no-kuz-zay-bo-bay-aa-yaa-tay-rub-bay-naa                                                                  Wa-na-koo-num-may-nul-moe-may-nee-n

 

And if you see when they stopped on the Fire and said,                                      “How sad for us. Wish we were returned                                                                            And not belie the Signs of our God                                                                                  And would be among the believers.”

○ وَهُمۡ يَنۡهَوۡنَ عَنۡهُ وَيَنۡــَٔوۡنَ عَنۡهُ‌ۚ  وَاِنۡ يُّهۡلِكُوۡنَ اِلَّاۤ اَنۡفُسَهُمۡ وَمَا يَشۡعُرُوۡنَ

 

Wa-hoom-yaun-hao-na-un-ho-wa-yaun-aao-na-un-ho-wa-in                                                  Yoh-lay-koo-na-il-laa-un-fo-sa-hoom-wa-maa-yaush-o-roo-n

 

And they stop others from it and themselves stay away from it.  And surely        They destroy none except themselves and they don’t realize it.

وَمِنۡهُمۡ مَّنۡ يَّسۡتَمِعُ اِلَيۡكَ‌‌ ۚ  وَجَعَلۡنَا عَلٰى قُلُوۡبِهِمۡ اَكِنَّةً اَنۡ يَّفۡقَهُوۡهُ وَفِىۡۤ اٰذَانِهِمۡ وَقۡرًا ‌ؕ  وَاِنۡ يَّرَوۡا كُلَّ اٰيَةٍ لَّا يُؤۡمِنُوۡا بِهَا‌ ؕ حَتّٰۤى اِذَا جَآءُوۡكَ يُجَادِلُوۡنَكَ يَقُوۡلُ الَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡۤا اِنۡ هٰذَاۤ اِلَّاۤ اَسَاطِيۡرُ الۡاَوَّلِيۡنَ

 

Wa-min-hoom-mun-yus-ta-may-o-elai-ka                                                                                        Wa-ja-ul-naa-alaa-qo-loo-bay-him                                                                                                    Aa-kin-na-ton-un-yuf-qua-hoo-ho                                                                                                      Wa-fee-aa-zaa-nay-him-wuq-raa

Wa-in-ya-rao-kool-la-aa-ya-tin-laa-yoe-may-noo-bay-haa                                                        Hut-taa-ezaa-jaa-oo-ka-yo-jaa-day-lo-na-ka                                                                                Ya-qoo-lool-la-zee-na-ka-fa-roo                                                                                                        In-haa-zaa-il-laa-aa-saa-tee-rool-uw-wa-lee-n

 

And from them is he who acts hearing to you                                                                  And we have placed on their hearts                                                                                      A blockage against that they understand it                                                                        And a deafness in their ears.

And even if they see all signs, they won’t believe it.                                                        Till when they have come to you arguing,                                                                            They — who had disbelieved — say,                                                                                      “Surely all this is nothing but the tales of those gone by.”

اُنْظُرۡ كَيۡفَ كَذَبُوۡا عَلٰٓى اَنۡفُسِهِمۡ‌ وَضَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡ مَّا كَانُوۡا يَفۡتَرُوۡنَ

 

Oon-zoor-kai-fa-kuz-za-boo-alaa-un-fo-say-him-wa                                                                    Dzul-la-un-hoom-maa-kaa-noo-yuf-ta-roo-n

 

Look how they lied against themselves and                                                                    All they had been concocting was lost from them.

ثُمَّ لَمۡ تَكُنۡ فِتۡـنَـتُهُمۡ اِلَّاۤ اَنۡ قَالُوۡا وَاللّٰهِ رَبِّنَا مَا كُنَّا مُشۡرِكِيۡنَ

Thoom-ma-lum-ta-koon-fit-na-to-hoom-il-laa-un-qaa-loo                                                          Wul-laa-hay-rub-bay-naa-maa-koon-naa-mosh-ray-kee-n

 

 Then their mischief won’t be there, except that they said,                                          “By our God Allah we never have been idolaters.”

The 1st word  كُنۡ  conveys the continuation from the past to the present and leading into the future.   • مُشۡرِكِينَ  Moosh-ray-keen — The idolaters (= n., m., pl., Those who set up equals, partners, peers etc., with the Almighty God. Men who ascribe or associate  and worship imaginary gods with the Almighty God.  Unbelieving pagan men. See Note 004:037. وَيَوۡمَ نَحۡشُرُهُمۡ جَمِيعً۬ا ثُمَّ نَقُولُ لِلَّذِينَ أَشۡرَكُوٓاْ أَيۡنَ شُرَكَآؤُكُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كُنتُمۡ تَزۡعُمُونَ

 

Wa-yao-ma-nah-sho-ro-hom-ja-mee-un                                                                                          Thoom-ma-na-qoo-lo-lil-la-zee-nush-ra-koo                                                                                    Ai-na-sho-ra-kaa-o-ko-mool-la-zee-na-koon-toom-tuz-aa-moo-n

 

And think of the day We gather them all.                                                                          Then We say to those who set up equals to Allah,                                                  “Where are your Partners whom you used to assert?”

وَمَنۡ أَظۡلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفۡتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا أَوۡ كَذَّبَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِهِۦۤ‌ۗ إِنَّهُ ۥ لَا يُفۡلِحُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ

 

Wa  mun  uz-la-mo  mim-may  nif-ta-raa  aa-lul  laa-hay  ka-zay-bun                                  Auo  kuz-za  bay  aa-yaa-tay  he                                                                                                    Inna  hoo  laa  yoof-lay-hoo  zaa-lay-moo-n 

 

And who is more unfair than one who concocted a lie against Allah,                     Or lied with His signs?                                                                                                    Certainly, He does not let the wrongdoers prosper.

Ul-la-zee-na-aa-tai-naa-ho-mool-kay-ta-ba                                                                                  Yau-ray-foo-na-hoo-ka-maa-yau-ray-foo-na-ub-naa-aa-hoom                                                Ul-la-zee-na-aa-kha-say-roo-un-fo-sa-hoom                                                                              Fa-hoom-laa-yoe-may-noo-n

 

Those whom we gave the Book                                                                                        Recognize it like that they recognize their sons.                                                              Those who lost their souls                                                                                                    Then they do not believe.

  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our; Us. Used with God’s name this is the authoritative way a higher-up talks)
  • هُمُ — Ho-mo…(ol) — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • الۡـكِتٰبَ — Kay-taa-ba — The Book (= n., The Divine Directive of Commands, Prohibitions   and Regulations. Holy Scripture. A/t/a, ‘Scripture,’  ‘This perfect Book,’ ‘the earlier Scripture,’ ‘the Scripture (Jews and Christians),’ ‘the Scriptures’ and ‘the Book’)
  • يَعۡرِفُوۡنَ — Yau-ray-foo-na — They recognize (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Admit; identify; know well. A/t/a, ‘recognize,’ ‘Recognise,’ ‘recognise (this Revelation)’ and ‘know’)
  • هٗ — Hoo — It / him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Him; it. This pronoun refers to – A/t/a,  1. Allah. 2. ‘Revelation,’ ‘this (Qur’an)’ and ‘Book.’ 3. ‘Prophet,’ ‘him,’ ‘him (-the Prophet Muhammad)’ and ‘him [i.e. Muhammad s.a.w. as Messenger of Allah, and they also know that there is no Ilah (God) but Allah and Islam is Allah’s religion]’)
  • كَ — Ka — Like (= Identical; resembling; similar to. A/t/a, ‘as’)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — That (= What; whatever; whatsoever; at such time; when)
  • يَعۡرِفُوۡنَ — Yau-ray-foo-na — They recognize (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Identify; know. See  يَعۡرِفُوۡنَ  above)
  • اَبۡنَآءَ — Ub-naa-aa– Sons (= n., pl., This word is the plural of  ابۡن  (ibn) and means sons, boys, male family members or men. But the term  اَبۡنَآءَ  includes children h.l.s. (how low so ever), descendants, off-springs, posterity, progeny. A/t/a, ‘children’)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)

  • يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ — Yoe-may-noo-na — They Believe (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Enter faith; follow the Holy Qor-aan, the Iss-laam and are Moslems. A/t/a, ‘believe,’  ‘will … believe’ and ‘have faith’)
