The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                       004:162

 

وَّاَخۡذِهِمُ الرِّبٰوا وَقَدۡ نُهُوۡا عَنۡهُ وَاَكۡلِـهِمۡ اَمۡوَالَ النَّاسِ بِالۡبَاطِلِ‌ ؕ  وَاَعۡتَدۡنَـا لِلۡـكٰفِرِيۡنَ مِنۡهُمۡ عَذَابًا اَ لِيۡمًا

 

Wa-ukh-zay-hay-moor-ray-baa-wa-qud-no-hoo-un-ho                                                        Wa-uk-lay-him-um-waa-lun-naa-say-bil-baa-tay-lay                                                             Wa-aau-tud-naa-lil-kaa-fay-re-na-min-hoom-azaa-bun-alee-maa

 

And their levy of interest and surely they were stopped from it                                And their ingestion of property of other people with false means.                          And We have prepared for the disbelievers among them a painful punishment

 

Verses 004:161 and 004:162 together read as follows

So because of the wrongdoing of those who once were guided                            And their obstruction of many from the cause of Allah                                              And their levy of interest and surely they were stopped from it                              And their ingestion of wealth of other people with false means                              We prohibited them the clean foods they were allowed since before.                And We have prepared for the disbelievers among them a painful punishment

  • قَدۡ — Qud — Surely (= This word lays emphasis as by absolutely, assuredly,  categorically, certainly, clearly, definitely, doubtlessly, for sure, obviously, positively, specially, specifically, surely, verily or with no doubt whatsoever)
  • نُهُوۡا –No-hoo — Stopped (= v., past., pass., pl., 3rd person. Forbidden; prohibited; restricted; stopped)
  • عَنۡ — Un — From (= About; concerning; regarding; relative to)
  • هُ — Ho — It (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to interest. A/t/a, ‘taking it’)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. A/t/a, ‘and because of’  and ‘that.’ See وَ  above)

  • مِنۡ — Min  — From among (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon.                                                           A/t/a, ‘among’ and ‘those of them’)

The Warning about Punishment in next two words is also given for misdeeds named in  verses  002:011002:175003:078003:092003:178 and many others.

The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                               004:161

 

فَبِظُلۡمٍ مِّنَ الَّذِيۡنَ هَادُوۡا حَرَّمۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ طَيِّبٰتٍ اُحِلَّتۡ لَهُمۡ وَبِصَدِّهِمۡ عَنۡ سَبِيۡلِ اللّٰهِ كَثِيۡرًا

 

Fa  bay  zool-mim  may-na  ul-la-zee-n  haa-do                                                                              Hur-rum  naa   alai  him  toy-yay-baa-tin  o-hil-lut  la  hoom                                                      Wa  bay  sud-day  him  un  sa-bee-l  il-laa-hay  ka-thee-raa

 

So because of the wrongdoing of those who once were guided                                We prohibited them the clean foods they were allowed since before                And their obstruction of many from the cause of Allah

 

Verses 004:161 and 004:162 together read as follows:

The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                             004:160

 

وَاِنۡ مِّنۡ اَهۡلِ الۡكِتٰبِ اِلَّا لَيُـؤۡمِنَنَّ بِهٖ قَبۡلَ مَوۡتِهٖ‌ ۚ  وَيَوۡمَ الۡقِيٰمَةِ يَكُوۡنُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ شَهِيۡدًا‌ ۚ‏

 

Wa-in-min-ah-lil-ka-taa-bay-il-laa                                                                                                    La-yoe-may-nun-na-bay-he-qub-la-mao-tay-he                                                                            Wa-yao-mul-qay-yaa-ma-tay-ya-koo-n0-alai-him-sha-he-daa

 

And surely even among the people of the Book none                                                      Will believe in this (the death of Jesus on cross) before his death.                          And on the Day of Judgment, he too will be a witness against them.

This word is in ‘present participle’ form; so its translation in the past tense as ‘he was’ is inaccurate.  A/t/a, ‘will be,’ ‘he (Jesus) shall be,’Jesus shall,’ ‘he (- Jesus) will be’ and ‘he [Isa (Jesus)]
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — On (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; over; to; upon)

  • شَهِيۡدًا — Sha-he-da — Witness (= n., s., Attester, observer, onlooker, testifier, verifier, watch, watcher or witness. Adducer of proof. Bearer, giver or provider of evidence or testimony. Producer of  corroboration; witness. Also, a helper, seer or supporter. A/t/a, ‘shall bear witness’

 

** Note 004:160. The words above cumulatively mean None of even the people of Scripture believe that he (Jesus) died. The reason is any allegation that he had died on the wooden-cross and so suffered an accursed death under the Judaic law.

The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                          004:159

 

بَلْ رَّفَعَهُ اللّٰهُ اِلَيۡهِ‌ ؕ وَكَانَ اللّٰهُ عَزِيۡزًا حَكِيۡمًا‏

.

Bur-ra-fa-aa-hool-laa-ho-elai-hay-wa-kaa-nul-laa-ho-azee-zun-ha-kee-maa

 

But Allah exalted him in His view and Allah has been the Mightiest, the Wisest

 

  • بَلْ — Bul — But (= Aye; but; but the truth is; however; indeed; instead; in truth; nay; nevertheless; of course; on the contrary; rather; really; the fact is; truthfully; verily; yea but; yes indeed. A/t/a, ‘On the contrary’ and ‘Rather’ of’)
  • رَّفَعَ — Ra-fa-a — He exalted (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person. He elevated, exalted, lifted, placed or raised above from a prior set, stage or status. A/t/a, ‘exalted,’ ‘exalted him with all honour,’ ‘raised up,’ ‘took … up’ and ‘lifted up.’ God’s action relative to man as stated in Note 003:056 and verses 004:159 and 006:084)
  • هُ — Ho — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to Jesus Christ)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • اِلَيۡ — E-lai — To (= In the direction of; to; towards. A/t/a, ‘unto’ and ‘in’)
  • هِ — Hay –His view (= pro., s., m; 3rd person. Ref to the Almighty God; in His view. A/t/a, ‘Himself,’  ‘His presence,’ and ‘Himself (with his body and soul) … (and he p.o.h. is in the heavens’)

  • كَانَ — Kaa-na(ul) — It has been (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; had been; used to; were, went on doing. Indicates the continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. The phrase ‘has always been’ indicates an endless continuation. A/t/a, ‘is’ and ‘was’)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)

The combination of following two words is in many verses like 004:057, 004:166 etc

  • عَزِيۡزًا — Azee-zun — Mightiest (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the  most, and highlights that none more than Him is Most Exalted, Highest, Honored, Respected and Revered. This one word includes the meanings of Might with Respect. A/t/a, ‘Exalted in Power,’ ‘ever Mighty,’ ‘Mighty,’ ‘mighty,’ ‘All-Mighty,’ ‘Almighty’ and ‘Ever All Powerful.’ See 001:001)
  • حَكِيۡمًا‏ — Ha-kee-maa — Wisest (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him is Most Shrewd and Wise. The Wisest. A/t/a, ‘Wise,’ ‘All-Wise,’ and ‘wise.’ See 001:001)

وَّقَوۡلِهِمۡ اِنَّا قَتَلۡنَا الۡمَسِيۡحَ عِيۡسَى ابۡنَ مَرۡيَمَ رَسُوۡلَ اللّٰهِ‌ ۚ   وَمَا قَتَلُوۡهُ وَمَا صَلَبُوۡهُ وَلٰـكِنۡ شُبِّهَ لَهُمۡ‌ ؕ  وَاِنَّ الَّذِيۡنَ اخۡتَلَـفُوۡا فِيۡهِ لَفِىۡ شَكٍّ مِّنۡهُ‌ؕ  ؕ  مَا لَهُمۡ بِهٖ مِنۡ عِلۡمٍ اِلَّا اتِّبَاعَ الظَّنِّ‌ ۚ   وَمَا قَتَلُوۡهُ يَقِيۡنًا  

 

Wa-qao-lay-him-in-naa-qa-tul-nul-ma-se-ha                                                                                  Ee-sub-na-mur-ya-ma-ra-soo-lul-laa-hay

Wa-maa-qa-ta-loo-ho-wa-maa-sa-la-boo-ho                                                                              Wa-laa-kin-na-shoob-bay-ha-la-hoom

Wa-in-nul-la-ze-nukh-ta-la-fee-hay-la-fee-shuk-kin-min-ho                                                Maa-la-hoom-bay-he-min-il-min                                                                                                      Il-lut-tay-baa-uz-zun-nay                                                                                                                Wa-maa-qa-ta-loo-ho-ya-qee-naa

 

And their saying, “Surely we executed the Messiah                                                  Jesus son of Mary, Messenger of Allah.”

And they had not killed him and had not crucified him                                                But it was made to look to them like that.

Surely those who disagreed about him were in doubt about it.                          They have no knowledge about it                                                                                         Except the conjecture as a follow-up.                                                                                    And they did not execute him for sure.

Wa-bay-koof-ray-him-wa-qao-lay-him-alaa-mur-ya-ma-boh-taa-nun-azee-maa

 

And with their disbelieving and their alleging against Mary a big fat lie

فَبِمَا نَقۡضِهِمۡ مِّيۡثَاقَهُمۡ وَكُفۡرِهِمۡ بِاٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ وَقَتۡلِهِمُ الۡاَنۡۢبِيَآءَ بِغَيۡرِ حَقٍّ وَّقَوۡلِهِمۡ قُلُوۡبُنَا غُلۡفٌ ؕ    بَلۡ طَبَعَ اللّٰهُ عَلَيۡهَا بِكُفۡرِهِمۡ فَلَا يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ اِلَّا قَلِيۡلًا   

 

Fa-bay-maa n                                                                                                                                            Nuq-dzay-him-me-thaa-qa-hoom-wa                                                                                                Koof-ray-him-bay-aa-yaa-til-laa-hay-wa                                                                                        Qut-lay-hay-mil-un-bay-ya-aa-bay-ghai-ray-huq-qin-wa                                                        Qao-lay-him-qo-loo-bo-naa-ghool-foon                                                                                           

Bul-ta-ba-ul-laa-ho-alai-haa-bay-koof-ray-him                                                                            Fa-laa-yoe-may-noo-na-il-laa-qa-le-laa

 

So because of                                                                                                                                  Their breaking their Pledge and                                                                                              Their rejecting the Signs of Allah and                                                                              Their killing the Prophets without justification and                                              Their claiming, “Our hearts are in cover.” 

But really Allah has put a seal on it with their disbelief                                                So they do not believe except a little

Wa-ra-fau-naa-fao-qa-ho-moot-too-ra-bay-me-thaa-qay-him                                              Wa-qool-naa-la-ho-mood-kho-lool-baa-ba-sooj-ja-dun                                                                Wa-qool-naa-la-hoom-laa-tau-do-fis-sub-tay                                                                                Wa-aa-khuz-naa-min-hoom-me-thaa-qun-gha-le-zaa

 

And We raised above them the mountain because of their pledge                            And We said to them, “Enter the gate submissively”                                                 And We said to them, “Do not cross the line regarding the Sabbath.”                  And We took from them a solid pledge

يَسۡــَٔـلُكَ اَهۡلُ الۡـكِتٰبِ اَنۡ تُنَزِّلَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ كِتٰبًا مِّنَ السَّمَآءِ‌ فَقَدۡ سَاَ لُوۡا مُوۡسٰٓى اَكۡبَرَ مِنۡ ذٰ لِكَ فَقَالُوۡۤا اَرِنَا اللّٰهَ جَهۡرَةً فَاَخَذَتۡهُمُ الصّٰعِقَةُ بِظُلۡمِهِمۡ‌‌ ۚ  ثُمَّ اتَّخَذُوا الۡعِجۡلَ مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِ مَا جَآءَتۡهُمُ الۡبَيِّنٰتُ فَعَفَوۡنَا عَنۡ ذٰ لِكَ‌‌‌‌ ۚ   وَاٰتَيۡنَا مُوۡسٰى سُلۡطٰنًا مُّبِيۡنًا‏

 

Yus-aa-lo-ka-ah-lool-kay-taa-bay-un-to-nuz-zil                                                                            Alai-him-kay-taa-bun-may-nus-sa-maa-aiy                                                                                  Fa-qud-sa-aa-loo-moo-saa-uk-ba-ro-min-zaa-lay-ka                                                                  Fa-qaa-loo-aa-ray-nul-laa-ha-juh-ra-ton                                                                                      Fa-aa-kha-zut-ho-moos-saa-aiy-qa-to-bay-zool-may-him

Thoom-mut-ta-kha-zool-ij-la-min-bau-day                                                                                      Jaa-ut-ho-mool-buy-yay-naa-to                                                                                                          Fa-aa-fao-naa-un-zaa-lay-ka                                                                                                            Wa-aa-tai-naa-moo-saa-sool-taa-nun-mo-be-naa

 

The people of Book ask you that you bring down                                                        Upon them a Book from the Heaven                                                                                 But then they surely had asked Moses far greater than that.                                      Then they said, “Show us Allah full-face.”                                                                          But a thunderbolt struck them for their wrongdoing

Then they took a calf for worship after                                                                          Clear signs had come to them                                                                                                  But We forgave them that too                                                                                          And We gave Moses an obvious authority

  • مُوۡسٰٓى — Moo-saa — Moses (= The name of a Prophet)

  • الصّٰعِقَةُ — Saa-aiy-qa-to — Thunderbolt (= n., s., Flash of lightning followed by the loud lingering sounds of thunder. Frightening sound of a thunderbolt, thunder-clasp or thunder-peal.   • سُلۡطٰنًا — Sool-ta-nun — Authority (= n., Allowance; authorization; decree; justification, plan permission; power; proof; reason that is convincing; sanction; warrant. The word also means a king, monarch or a mighty irrefutably powerful argument, source of authority  or support. A/t/a, ‘authority,’ ‘proof of authority’  and ‘strength’)
  • مُّبِيۡنًا‏ — Mo-bee-na — Obvious (= adj., Apparent; clear; evident; flagrant; glaring; gross;   lucid; manifest; obvious; open; palpable; patent, unambiguous; unmistakable. A situation that is avowed, cleared, declared, marked or sworn to be without any  blemish, hindrance or obstruction which could cloud or fog the view. Also an adv: clearly; evidently; grossly; manifestly; obviously; openly. A/t/a, ‘manifest,’ ‘clear,’ ‘evident’ and ‘undisputed’)

The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                         004:153

 

وَالَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا بِاللّٰهِ وَرُسُلِهٖ وَلَمۡ يُفَرِّقُوۡا بَيۡنَ اَحَدٍ مِّنۡهُمۡ اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ سَوۡفَ يُؤۡتِيۡهِمۡ اُجُوۡرَهُمۡ ؕ‌ؕ وَكَانَ اللّٰهُ غَفُوۡرًا رَّحِيۡمًا ‏

 

Wul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo-bil-laa-hay-wa-ro-so-lay-he                                                              Wa-lum-yo-fur-ray-qoo-bai-na-aa-ha-dim-min-hoom                                                                O-laa-aiy-ka-sao-fa-yoe-te-hoom-o-joo-ra-hoom                                                                    Wa-kaa-nul-laa-ho-gha-foo-rur-ra-hee-maa

 

And those who believed in Allah and His Messengers                                                  And do not distinguish between any of them                                                                They all are that He will soon award them their rewards                                            And Allah has always been very Forgiving, very Merciful

  • رُسُلِ — Ro-so-lay — Messengers (= n., pl., Apostles; God’s messengers; prophets; sages; saints. A/t/a, ‘in all of … Messengers’)
  • هٖ — He — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • لَمۡ — Lum — Do not (= Absolutely never; no, not at all)
  • يُفَرِّقُوۡا — Yo-fur-ray-qoo — Distinguish (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Hold one above others. Cause, create, develop or separate the two. The original text dictates that the translation of teaching or learning to distinguish, differentiate or discriminate is appropriate here. A/t/a, ‘make … distinction,’ (while believing) make … distinction’  and ‘discriminate’)
  • بَيۡنَ — Bai-na –Between (= Ahead, facing or in front of; Among; betwixt)
  • اَحَدٍ — Aa-ha-din — One (= n., Individual; single. A/t/a, ‘any’and ‘discriminate against none’)
  • مِّنَ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. A/t/a, ‘them (Messengers)’  
  • اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ — O-laa-aiy-ka — All of these (= Aforesaid acts; facts, items, persons or things. A/t/a,  ‘unto them,’ ‘these are they whom,’ ‘it is to these,’ ‘those,’ ‘them’ and ‘they’)
  • سَوۡفَ — Sao-fa — Very soon (= This word turns a verb in the present tense to a verb in  the near term or future. In a short while. Very closely, quickly or swiftly. Without too long a wait. Also, definitely; surely and ‘soon’)
  • يُؤۡتِيۡ  — Yoe-tee — He will grant   (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. The prior word  سَوۡفَ has turned the meanings of this word from the present tense into the future tense as He shall or will award, bestow, bless, confer, gift, give, grant, hand down, reward or send. A/t/a, Allah ‘will give,’ ‘will … give’ and ‘He shall … give.’ But inaccurately translated are (a) ‘We shall give’ in the 1st person when the Holy Qor-aan has used a verb for the 3rd person, and (b) ‘they shall be rewarded’ in the passive voice when the Holy Qor-aan has stated the fact in the active voice’)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Those men, they or their)
  • اُجُوۡرَ — O-joo-ra — Rewards (= n., pl. Awards; compensations; good results; payments; prizes; recognitions; recompense; rewards; successes; trophies. A/t/a, ‘rewards,’  wages’ and ‘(due) rewards’)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Those men, they or their)

  • كَانَ — Kaa-na..(ul) — Has been (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; had been; used to; were, went on doing. Indicates the continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. The phrase ‘had always been’ indicates an endless continuation. A/t/a, ‘is’ )
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • غَفُوۡرًا — Gha-foo-r(ur) — Very Forgiving (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him is Who excuses, forgives, overlooks and pardons. The One who forgives the past and protects in the future from crimes, errors, faults, sins and wrongs. A/t/a, ‘Oft-Forgiving,’ ‘ever Forgiving,’ ‘Most Forgiving,’ ‘Great Protector,’ ‘All Forgiving,’ ‘forgiving’ and ‘Ever Oft-Forgiving.’ See also 001:001)
  • رَّحِيۡمًا‌ — Ra-hee-maa — Very Merciful (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him shows mercy again and again, continually, incessantly and indefinitely like the endlessly and perpetually  incoming waves from the oceans; Merciful Forever. A/t/a, ‘Merciful,’ ‘Most Merciful,’ ‘Ever Merciful,’ ‘All-Merciful’ and ‘merciful.’ See 001:001)
