004:053

The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                         004:053

  اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ الَّذِيۡنَ لَعَنَهُمُ اللّٰهُ‌ ؕ وَمَنۡ يَّلۡعَنِ اللّٰهُ فَلَنۡ تَجِدَ لَهٗ نَصِيۡرًا ؕ‏

O-laa-aiy-kul-la-ze-na-la-aa-na-ho-mool-la-ho                                                                          Wa-mun-yul-aa-nil-laa-ha                                                                                                                    Fa-lun-ta-jay-da-la-hoo-na-see-raa

These are those whom Allah has cursed                                                                          And whomever Allah curses                                                                                                  Then you will not find for him any helper

  • اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ — O-laa-aiy-ka (ul) — These (= All of these acts, facts, items, persons or things. A/t/a,  ‘They,’ ‘They it is’ and ‘Those are they whom’)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those in masculine gender that include all articles, things, persons or phenomenon.  A/t/a, ‘Those are they whom’)
  • لَعَنَ — La-aa-na — Cursed (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Blighted; condemned; deprived of God’s mercy; disapproved; doomed; imposed bad luck; inflicted wrath; on whom curse was invoked; placed under curse. A/t/a, ‘whom Allah hath cursed,’ ‘has laid His curse,’  ‘cast aside’ and ‘deprived of His blessings’)
  • هُمُ — Ho-mo…(ol) — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid people)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)

  • يَّلۡعَنِ — Yul-aa-ni(l) — Curses (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Blights; condemns; deprives of   God’s mercy; disapproves; dooms; imposes bad luck; inflicts wrath; invokes curse upon; places under curse. A/t/a, ‘whom Allah hath cursed’ and ‘who is cursed by Allah’ but that translation of a verb in the past tense is an inaccurate when the Holy Qor-aan has described in the present tense)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Hence; so; thus; after all this; at the end; in conclusion; in the final analysis; consequently; finally; resultantly; thereafter; therefore)

** Note 004:053. The word  لَعَنَ  (la-aa-na) means cursed. It is a verb in the past tense. It is correctly translated by several translators including one author in particular.

The word يَّلۡعَنِ   (yul-aa-na) means curses, i.e., is a verb in the present-participle tense. It is correctly translated by several translators but not by the above-mentioned author.

That aforesaid author M M Pickthall translated both words the same as ‘hath cursed.’  Sadly such mistranslations of the Holy Qor-aan by disregarding Arabic grammar are quite rampant and countless in many books on the market.

** Note 004:053a. The word  تَجِدُ  (ta-jay-do) is the present-participle of a verb that describes the action of an individual in the 2nd person. Its meanings include you now or will attain, come across, confront, discover, experience, face, find, get, reap, receive, see or uncover.

The Holy Qor-aan has repeated the concept that one will reap what one sows in many verses like 004:053, 004:089, 006:165, 039:008 and 099:008-009 among others.

** Note 004:052. Our Commentaries lay out reasons why some Translations being sold in the market place actually confuse the readers and thwart their grasping the real message.

Translations With Inaccuracies, With Grammar Violated and with inconsistencies differ from the simple straightforward translation of the Holy Qor-aan that this site differs.

One author who we believe never intended to err yet translated as follow.

The words لَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا  mean those who disbelieved but he translated them as follows.                                      — In the verse 004:052 as “the disbelievers”                                                                                      — In the verse 004:057 as “those who disbelieve”

The phrase الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا means those who had believed but he translated it as follows.                           — In the verse 004:052 as “those who believe”                                                                                 — In the verse 004:058 as “those who have believed”                                                                     — In the verse 004:060 as “ye who believe” like many authors did.

The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                               004:049

  اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يَغۡفِرُ اَنۡ يُّشۡرَكَ بِهٖ وَيَغۡفِرُ مَا دُوۡنَ ذٰ لِكَ لِمَنۡ يَّشَآءُ‌ ۚ وَمَنۡ يُّشۡرِكۡ بِاللّٰهِ فَقَدِ افۡتَـرٰۤى اِثۡمًا عَظِيۡمًا‏
