** Note 003:188.  The root و  ث  ق  carries in its meanings the concept of an affirming, agreeing, assenting, confirming or endorsing a thing already presented, recorded or put forward.

The verb in the past tense وَاثَقَ means he pledged. The nouns مِيۡثَاقَ means pledge and توثيق means confirmation of a pledge. The adjective مِّيۡثَاقًا means as a pledge. The number of derivates from this root exceed dozens.

An arrangement, assurance, promise or an undertaking made unilaterally (by-one-side) vouching that its maker will always honor it. An arrangement, agreement, compact, contract, confirmation, covenant, pact or treaty when 2-or-more parties make it and assure all concerned that it will always be honored.

Various verbiages have been used by authors in giving different meanings and details of the several derivates of this root. See verses 002:084002:085, 002:094,  003:082003:188.,  004:022,  004:091005:008, 005:013, 005:014, 005:015, 005:071 and 031:023 among others.

**003:183: Various translators in translating this verse have exhibited the human nature of aggrandizing the scope of whatever they do. The same phenomenon also appeared for a long time in the American automakers promoting their new-year lower, longer and wider model as a car better than the earlier ones.

Notice how the meanings of the third word قَدَّ مَتۡ  of this verse were enlarged, expanded, magnified or strengthened by adding words in the following manner.                    ‘sent before’ [Maulana Muhammad Ali];                                                                                      ‘sent before you’ [Dr Muhammad Muhsin Khan and Dr.Tuqi-ud-Din Al-Hilali];                  — ‘sent on before’ [Malik Ghulam Farid];                                                                                        ‘sent on before ye’ [Abdullah Yusuf Ali];                                                                                      ‘sent on before yourselves’ [Maulwi Sher Ali];                                                                                — ‘sent before (you to the judgment)’ [Muhammad Mermaduke Pickthall];                              — ‘sent forward’ [Amatul Rahman Omar and Abdul Mannan Omar];                                          — ‘forwarded for you’ [Dr Ahmad Zidan ans Mrs Dina Zidan];                                                      — ‘you have wrought’ [Muhammad Zafrulla Khan].

And then the words قَدَّمَتۡ اَيۡدِيۡكُمۡ  were translated as ‘your misdeeds’ [N J Dawood] which may be the author’s interpretation but is not an exact translation of the words of the Holy Qor-aan.

Most certainly Allah heard the words of those who said,                                           “Surely Allah is poor and we are rich.”                                                                             Soon We will record what they said and                                                                       Their persecution of the Messengers without justification.                                       And We will say, “Taste the punishment of burning.”
