Phrase Lil-laa-hay-maa … meaning For Allah is ….

 

لِلّٰهِ مَا فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَمَا فِى الۡاَرۡضِ‌

Lil-laa-hay-maa-fis-sa-maa-waa-tay-wa-maa-fil-ur-dzay

For Allah is all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth.

 

The Holy Qor-aan has repeated the phrase لِلّٰهِ مَا فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَمَا فِى الۡاَرۡضِ‌ several times in different places and in different contexts. It consists of nine (9) words. It praises Allah as the Creator of the Heaven and Earth. Its word-by-word translation is as following.

  • لِ — L … (il) — For (= Belonging to; for the benefit, person, purpose or reason)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — All that (= What; whatever; whatsoever)
  • فِى — F … (is) — In (= About; amidst, among, inside a duration, time, place, period, thing or situation. Also, concerning; regarding, relative to or in reference. See Note 002:028)
  • السَّمٰوٰتِ — Sa-maa-waa-tay — The heavens (= n., pl., All above ground or earth; clouds; firmament; heavens; rain; skies; universe. Also, knowledge of astronomical objects in space)
  • وَ — Wa — And  (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — All that (= What; whatever; whatsoever)
  • فِى — F… (il) —  In (= About, inside a time, place or thing. See فِىۡ above)
  • الۡاَرۡضِ — Ul-ur-dzay — Earth (= n., s., Area; country; earth; ground; land; territory. Also, life on earth, nation; people or society in general)

 

The Holy Qor-aan has repeated this phrase or its basic concept in the following places.

  • 002:285 ” And Allah will take account of what is in your heart whether you reveal or conceal it
  • 003:110 ” And all things eventually return to Allah
  • 003:130 ” He forgives whoever He pleases but punishes of the wrongdoers whoever He pleases
  • 003:190 ” And Allah is the Controller on all things
  • 004:127 ” And Allah encompasses all things
  • 004:132 ” And We certainly have advised those before you who were given the scripture
  • 004:132 ” Even if you disbelieve or behave ungratefully
  • 004:133 ” And Allah suffices as the Guardian regarding all things
  • 002:256 ” [Except for the pronoun  هٗ (Hoo) that is used for the proper noun  اللّٰهِ  (Allah)                     Who can intercede with Him except with His permission?
  • 014:003 ” [Except for the pronoun هِ  (Hay) that is used for the proper noun اللّٰهِ (Allah)]                     And for the disbelievers is the woe of sever punishment
