** Note 005:099. The word   اِعۡلَمُوۡۤا means you should or must know since its first letter Alif has the vowel kusra (zair) under it as shown by most authors. A Yusuf Ali also translated it as Know ye but showed the first letter Alif with the vowel futha (zabar) above it and so a verb in the past tense for the 3rd person which would mean they knew.

Listen, you all who have believed! Do not kill the hunt                                                  When you are in the holy state of performing Haj

And whoever among you killed it intentionally                                                            Then his punishment is the like of the cattle he killed                                                    About which two just and fair persons among you decide                                          Arriving at the Kauba as a sacrifice                                                                                        Or the expiation is food for the indigents                                                                           Or the fasting that is just and equal to that                                                                        So that he tastes the result of his behavior.

Allah has pardoned what’s past.                                                                                              And whoever has repeated, then Allah will take revenge from him.                        By God Allah is the Mightiest, One Who can take revenge.

** Note 005:094. The rule in earlier verses is that he who ate the prohibited food is guilty.

The exception to the rule — the accurate translation of this verse 005:094 that also makes logical sense — is that there is no culpability if the mistake happened inadvertently. The proof that  there was no intent to do the wrong is the existence of all following conditions – combined and collectively.                                                                                                                1. He loved and avoided to anger God and believed and was pursuing righteous conduct. 2. He loved and avoided to anger God and believed in Him.                                                        3. He loved and avoided to anger God and was engaged in doing good.
