The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                002:017

اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ الَّذِيۡنَ اشۡتَرَوُا الضَّلٰلَةَ بِالۡهُدٰى  فَمَا رَبِحَتۡ تِّجَارَتُهُمۡ وَمَا كَانُوۡا مُهۡتَدِيۡنَ○‏

 

 

Olaa-aiy-kul-la-zee-nush-ta-ro-woodz-dza-laa-la-ta-bil-ho-daa                                               Fa-maa-ra-bay-hut-tay-jaa-ra-to-hoom-wa-maa-kaa-noo-moh-ta-dee-n.

 

They are those who bought the erring with the Guidance.                                           Thus their trade did not benefit them and they had not been guided at all.

 

  • اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ — Olaa-aiy-ka…(ul — They all (= Facts, persons or things)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — La-zee-n…(ush) — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. The aforesaid persons)
  • اشۡتَرَوُا — Sh-tara-wo(dz)  — Bought (= Bartered; purchased; traded)
  • الضَّلٰلَةَ — Dza-laa-la-ta — The Erring (= Beguiled ways; lost lines; poor path; wrong road)
  • بِ — B…(il) — With  (= Against; in exchange for; instead of, at the price of)
  • الۡهُدٰى — Ho-daa — Guidance (= n., Correct course; proper path; right road, line or way)
  • فَ — Fa — Thus (= Consequently; as a resultant; then; thereafter; therefore; so; thus; yet) 
  • مَاۤ — Maa — All that (= What or whatever in the aforesaid category)
  • رَبِحَتۡ — Ra-bay-hut — Benefited (= v., Blossomed; gained; profited; turned prosperous. Got them no benefit, gain or profit from this trade)
  • تِّجَارَتُ — Tay-jaa-ra-to — Trade (= Bargain; barter; commerce; purchase)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to the aforesaid foolish persons and hypocrites)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — Not at all (= Never; no)
  • كَانُوۡا — Kaa-noo — Have been (= Conveys continuation; refers to ‘all those’, in third person)
  • مُهۡتَدِيۡنَ — Moh-ta-dee-n — Guided (= On correct, good, proper or right course, line, path, road or way)
