The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                002:017

 

اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ الَّذِيۡنَ اشۡتَرَوُا الضَّلٰلَةَ بِالۡهُدٰى  فَمَا رَبِحَتۡ تِّجَارَتُهُمۡ وَمَا كَانُوۡا مُهۡتَدِيۡنَ○‏

 

Olaa-aiy-ka  ul-la-ze-na  ush-ta-ra-wo
Odz-dza-laa-la-ta  bay  il-ho-daa
Fa  maa  ra-bay-haut  tay-jaa-ra-to  hoom
Wa  maa  kaa-noo  moh-ta-dee-n

 

All those who bought
The Wrong with the Right
Consequently their trade did not benefit them.
And they had not been those rightly guided.

 

  • اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ — O-laa-aiy-ka … (ul — All those (= Acts, facts, items, persons or things)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Aul-la-ze-n … (ush) — Those who 3rd person. Refers to those articles, persons, phenomenon or things)
  • اشۡتَرَوُا — Aush-ta-ra-wo … (dz)  — Bought (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Bartered. Bough. Exchanged. Paid price. Purchased. Trafficked)
  • الضَّلٰلَةَ — Dza-dza-laa-la-ta — The Wrong road (= n., Amiss. Afield. Awry. Bad decision. . Blunder. Boo-boo. Deliberate neglect of duty. Error. Failure. Faulty way. Lost lines. Improper position. Inaccuracy.  Miscalculation. Misfeasance. Misguidance. Mistaken view. Poor path. Strayed situation)
  • بِ — Bay … (il) — With (= The best translation of the word  بِ  is ‘with’)
  • الۡهُدٰى — Ho-daa — The right road (= n., The action, direction, instruction, means, measure,  method, pointer or set up showing the best beacon,  correct course, enlightened entry,  linear lines, proper path, right road, wise ways or the knowledge about what is best. The criteria judging things appropriately. The Guidance. The way of life that the Creator chose for all He created. See Commentary Islam – 101)
  • فَ — Fa — Consequently (= After all this; as a result; at the end; but; consequently; hence; in conclusion; so; then; thereafter; therefore; thus; yet. See 002:027)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — Not (= Never; no; nor; not; not all; total negation. See Note 004:067)
  • رَبِحَتۡ — Ra-bay-haut — Benefited (= v., past., s., f., 3rd person. Bloomed. Blossomed.  Gained. Profited. Prospered)
  • تِّجَارَتُ — Tay-jaa-ra-to — Trade (= n., Any activity of buying and selling. Bargain. Barter. Business. Commerce. Contract. Financial transaction. Merchandising. Purchase. Trade) 
  • هُمۡ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Theirs. Them. They. Refers to the aforesaid foolish persons and hypocrites) 
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; moreover; though; when; while; whereupon; yet)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — Not (= Never; no). See  مَاۤ  above)
  • كَانُوۡا — Kaa-noo — Had been (= v., past., pl., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; used to;  went on; were doing. Words has or had always been indicate endless continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. See 002:011
  • مُهۡتَدِيۡنَ — Moh-ta-dee-n –Rightly guided (= n., pl., Those who have been … directed or guided  to or shown the good, proper or right course, line, path, road or way, led on proper lines, put on proper path, set on correct course. The rightly guided. The guided ones)
