The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                002:092

 

وَاِذَا قِيۡلَ لَهُمۡ اٰمِنُوۡا بِمَآ اَنۡزَلَ اللّٰهُ قَالُوۡا نُؤۡمِنُ بِمَآ اُنۡزِلَ عَلَيۡنَا وَيَكۡفُرُوۡنَ بِمَا وَرَآءَهٗ وَهُوَ الۡحَـقُّ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا مَعَهُمۡ‌ؕ قُلۡ فَلِمَ تَقۡتُلُوۡنَ اَنۡـــۢبِيَآءَ اللّٰهِ مِنۡ قَبۡلُ اِنۡ كُنۡتُمۡ مُّؤۡمِنِيۡنَ‏

 

Wa-ezaa-qee-la-la-hoom-aa-may-noo-bay-maa-un-za-lul-laa-ho
Qaa-loo-nou-may-no-bay-maa-oon-zay-la-alai-naa
Wa-yuk-fo-roo-na-bay-maa-wa-raa-oa-hoo
Wa-ho-wul-huq-qo-mo-sud-day-qun-lay-maa-ma-aa-hoom
Qool-fa-lay-ma-tuq-to-loo-na-um-bay-yaa-ul-laa-hay-min-qub-lo
In-koon-toom-moe-may-nee-n.

 

And when it is said to them, “Believe in all that Allah has entrusted.”
They said, “We believe in all that was entrusted to us.”
And they disbelieve in all that is beyond it
And it is the Truth fulfilling what was already with them.”
Say, “Then why did you persecute messengers of Allah since before
If you have been the real believers.”

 

{The first 6 words are common in this verse and 002:014}

  • وَ  —  Wa — And * (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • اِذَا — Ezaa — When (= Any time or event; whenever)
  • قِيۡلَ — Qee-la — Said (= v. passive voice; it’s conveyed, declared, stated or told)
  • لَ — La — To, for (= For any item, person or thing)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to Prophets’ persecutors)
  • اٰمِنُوۡ — Aa-may-noo — Believe * (= v., pr., pl. You all believe in the Holy Qor-aan,
    The Islaam, and become Moslems. Have faith)
  • بِمَا — Bay-maa — In all that (= Combination of two words. بِ means ‘with / in’ and مَاۤ means ‘all that, whatever, whatsoever or whenever.’ The combination بِمَا (be-maa) means ‘because of; on account of; for the reason; due to; with all that’)
  • اَنۡزَلَ — Un-za-la..(ul) — Entrusted  **  (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Dispatched; gave; granted; inspired, revealed. Handed. laid, lowered or sent down. Also, delivered; landed; provided; released; supplied. ** See Note 002:005a)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • قَا لُوۡا — Qaa-loo — They said (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person. Announced; argued; told; asserted; challenged; claimed; contended; countered; declared; protested; conveyed; informed; .objected; replied; responded; retorted; specified; warned)
  • نُؤۡمِنُ — Nou-may-no — We believe (= Have faith; rely on what you assert as true; trust)
  • بِمَا — Bay-maa — In all that (= Combination of two words. بِ means ‘with / in’ and مَاۤ means ‘all that, whatever, whatsoever or whenever.’ The combination بِمَا (be-maa) means ‘because of; on account of; for the reason; due to; with all that’
  • اُنۡزِلَ — Oon-zay-la — Entrusted  **  (= v., past., pass., s, 3rd person. Dispatched, given, granted, inspired; revealed. Handed, laid, lowered, or sent down.  Also, delivered; landed; provided; released; supplied. ** See Note 002:005a)
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — To (= Above; against; before; for; on; on top of; over; upon)
  • نَآ — Naa — Us (= pro., pl., 1st person. Refers to Prophets’ persecutors)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above)
  • يَكۡفُرُوۡنَ — Yuk-fo-roo-na — Disbelieve (= 1. Deny, refuse or reject faith or belief in Allah, the Holy Qor-aan and Islaam to become Moslem. 2. Fail to thank appreciate and gratefully utilize God’s blessings and opportunities provided to them; act ungratefully. 3. Become heretics; infidels; resistors to God; unbelievers)
  • بِمَا — Bay-maa — In all that (= Combination of two words. بِ means ‘with / in’ and مَاۤ means ‘all that, whatever, whatsoever or whenever.’ The combination بِمَا (be-maa) means ‘because of; on account of; for the reason; due to; with all that’)
  • وَرَآءَ — Wa-raa-aa — Beyond (= All besides; further than being seen; that came after that)
  • هٗ — Hoo — That (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Torah they had)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above)
  • هُو — Ho-wa..(ul) — It ** (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to ‘what was revealed’)
  • الۡحَـقُّ — Huq-qo — The Truth (= Ref here is to The Everlasting and the Absolute Truth; Appropriate; appropriateness. Equitable. In equity.  In justice; just cause; justified conduct; justification. Fair; in fairness and propriety. Suitability. Suitable. Reasonableness. Solid good reason. Right Faith. With exact particulars. Lasting. Total & precise truthfulness)
  • مُصَدِّقًا — Mo-sud-day-qun — Fulfilling (= v., Affirming, approving, attesting, confirming, proving, corroborating, testifying, verifying, or witnessing the truth of the prophecies of earlier scriptures. 2. n., One who affirms, approves, attests or confirms; true testator; truthful; verifier; witness)
  • لِّ — Lay — For (= For the benefit, purpose or reason; on account of; with intent to or object of towards)
  • مَآ — Maa — What (= All that; if; whatever; whatsoever)
  • مَعَ — Ma-aa — With (= Refers to the prior scriptures already with you)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl, .m., 3rd person. Refers to Prophets’ persecutors)
  • قُلۡ — Qool — You say (= Announce, assert, broadcast, call, convey, elaborate, explain, expound, inform, instruct, maintain, preach, proclaim, profess, specify, state or tell (a) others, (b) yourself, (c) acknowledge the receipt and (d) express
    your intent and resolve to live by the message. Read the Note under ‘112-All’ and Commentary titled as ‘You say’ means‘)
  • فَ —  Fa — Then (= Consequently; as a result; so; thereafter; therefore; yet)
  • لِمَ — Le-ma — Why (= Combination of two words. The first لِ means ‘For the benefit, intent, object, purpose or reason of’. The 2nd مَ means ‘What, whatever; whatsoever). Together لِمَ . means ‘for what reason; why’)
  • تَقۡتُلُوۡنَ — Tuq-to-loo-na — Persecuting (= v., Attacking; battling; combating; fighting; opposing; oppressed; slaying; suppressed; relative to prophets it
    means attempting, seeking or trying to kill, murder or war.   See verse 002:073)
  • اَنۡـــۢبِيَآءَ — Um-bay-yaa-(ul) — Prophets (= Apostles; messengers; sages; saints)
  • اللهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The Almighty God; the One Only worthy of worship)
  • مِنۡ — Min — Since / From (= From the class, category, count, persons or time of)
  • قَبۡلُ — Qub-lo — Before (= Aforetime; ahead of; antecedent; earlier, former times; older times; occurred or passed in prior period; prior to)
  • اِنِ — In — If (= If situation arises; in case; under the circumstances)
  • كُنۡ — Koon — Have been (= Conveys continuity from the past and going into future)
  • تُمۡ — Toom — You (= pl., m., 2nd person.  You.  Refers to Prophets’ persecutors)
  • مُّؤۡمِنِيۡنَ — Mo-may-nee-n — Believers (= n. Adherents; Faithful who believed in the Holy Qor-aan, The Islaam, and became Moslems)

* Note 002:092. Many translations have applied this pronoun to the Holy Qor-aan.   But the Israelites had persecuted God’s other messengers and denied what was revealed to them long before that.   And it is that earlier denial which is indicated by the words بِمَا وَرَآءَهٗ (= in all that is beyond it) earlier in the verse.
