Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                 002:275

 

اَلَّذِيۡنَ يُنۡفِقُوۡنَ اَمۡوَالَهُمۡ بِالَّيۡلِ وَالنَّهَارِ سِرًّا وَّعَلَانِيَةً فَلَهُمۡ اَجۡرُهُمۡ عِنۡدَ رَبِّهِمۡ‌ۚ وَلَا خَوۡفٌ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ يَحۡزَنُوۡنَؔ‏

 

Aul-la-ze-na  yoon-fay-qoo-na  aum-waa-la  hoom                                                                       Bay  il-lai-lay  wa  un-na-haa-ray  ser-raun  wa  aa-laa-nay-ya-ton                                        Fa  la  hoom  auj-ro  hoom  in-da  raub-bay  him  wa                                                                    Laa  khao-foon  aa-lai  him  wa   laa  hoom  yauh-za-noo-n

 

Those who spend their assets                                                                                                  Night and day, privately and publicly,                                                                                  For them their reward is with their God, and                                          No fear upon them. And they do not grieve.

 

  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Aul-la-ze-na — Those who (= Refers to ‘all those men, masculine gender’)
  • يُنفِقُونَ — Yoon-fay-qoo-na — They spend (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Contribute, donate, expend, give, invest, lay out, put or use. The Holy Qor-aan has used this word for any or all above acts done for any charity, good cause, noble purpose or poor person)
  • اَمۡوَالَ — Aum-waa-la — Assets (= n., pl., Resources and valuables. See Note 002:262)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid donors)
  • بِ — Bay … (il) — With (= The Arabic word  بِ  literally means ‘with’ in English)
  • الَّيۡلِ — Lai-lay — Night (= n., The period between sunset and sunrise; hours of darkness. See Note below for what this word implies)
  • وَ — Wa … (un) — And (= Additionally; also; although; but; in addition to; while)
  • النَّهَارِ — Na-haa-ray — Day (= n., The period between sunrise and sunset; hours of daylight. See Note below for what this word implies)
  • سِرًّا — Ser-run … (wa) — Privately (= adv., Concealed; hidden; obvious; out of sight; secretly. A/t/a by stealth)
  • وَّ — Wa — And (= Additionally; also; although; but; in addition to; while)
  • عَلَانِيَةً — Alaa-nay-ya-ton — Publicly (= adv., Exposed; openly; publicized; revealed; visibly)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; as a result; so; thereafter; therefore)
  • لَ — La — For (= For the benefit or purpose of; because, due to or for the reason of; on account of; so that; with the attention, intent or object directed towards)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to all aforesaid people)
  • اَجۡرُ — Auj-ro — Reward (= n., Award; good result; prize; recognition; trophy)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to all aforesaid people)
  • عِنۡدَ — Inda — From (= From; in the eyes of; in the counting by)
  • رَبِّ — Rub-bay — GOD / LORD (= The Almighty Allah who fills needs of all creatures; Cherisher; Creator; Guardian; Lord Provident; Master; The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. The Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever weand all other creatures need to live and subsist)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to all aforesaid people)
  • وَ  — Wa  — (= Conj., It link words, phrases or clauses.   See وَ  above)

This verse ends with the Phrase Laa-khao-foon aa-lai-him … meaning No Fear Upon

  • لَا — Laa — No (= Absolute denial; never; not at all; total negation)
  • خَوۡفٌ — Khao-foon — Fear (= The state of being afraid, frightened or scared with or without any reason, perils or perilous condition)
  • عَلَيۡ — Aa-lai — Upon (= Above; against; for; on; on top of; over; to; upon)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Them (= pl., m., 3rd person. Aforesaid followers of the good)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., It links words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • لَا — Laa — Not (= Absolute denial; never; not at all; total negation)
  • ھُمۡ‌ — Hoom — They (= pl., m., 3rd person. Aforesaid followers of the good)
  • يَحۡزَنُوۡنَ — Yauh-za-noo-n — They Grieve   (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Experience grief. Feel sorrow. What evokes regret or remorse. Worrying about something in the past that can’t be remedied)

 

* Note 002:275. The word  الَّيۡلِ (Lai-lay = Night) also refers to the period of darkness that prevents others from seeing the act of charity-giving and the extent and nature of the charity as clearly as a daylight would allow.  It also implies the dire circumstances temporarily around the charity-giver such as when one is property-rich but cash-poor.

The word النَّهَارِ (Na-haa-ray = Day) refers to exactly the opposite of the word الَّيۡلِ given above.  The period of daylight enables an onlooker to clearly see the act of charity-giving and the extent and nature of the charity.  It provides an incentive to copy and often serves as an impetus to out-perform the charity-giver’s good deed.
