The Holy Qor-aan 005:099
اِعۡلَمُوۡۤا اَنَّ اللّٰهَ شَدِيۡدُ الۡعِقَابِ وَاَنَّ اللّٰهَ غَفُوۡرٌ رَّحِيۡمٌ ؕ
Aiy-la-moo-un-nul-laa-ha-sha-dee-dool-aiy-qaa-bay Wa-unl-laa-ha-gha-foo-roor-ra-hee-m
You must know that Allah is very severe in the follow up And that Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful
- اِعۡلَمُوۡۤا — Aiy-la-moo — You know (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Be aware and informed; learn. A/t/a, ‘know,’ ‘You should know,’ ‘Know ye’ and ‘Remember.’ See Note 005:099 below)
- اَ نَّ — Un-na — That (= So that. A/t/a, ‘that’)
- ٱللَّهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
- شَدِيۡدُ — Sha-deed…(ol) — Severe (= Fierce; frightful; grievous; incredibly harsh; terrible. Also, forceful; heavy; mighty; stern; strict; strong. A/t/a, ‘Severe’)
- الۡعِقَابِ — Aiy-qaa-bay — Follow-up (= n., Chastisement; penalty; punishing; punishment; requiting; retribution. Also, Accountability; aftermath; consequence; continuation; effect; outcome; result; sequel)
- وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet. A/t/a, ‘And is also’ and ‘(at the same time)’
- اَ نَّ — Un-na — That (= So that. See اَ نَّ above)
- ٱللَّهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
- غَفُوۡرٌ — Gha-foo-rur — Forgiving (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him is Who excuses, overlooks and pardons. Forgiving for the past and protecting in the future from crimes, errors, faults, sins and wrongs. See 001:001. - رَّحِيۡمٌ — Ra-hee-m — Very Merciful (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him shows mercy again and again, continually, incessantly and indefinitely like the endlessly and perpetually incoming waves from the oceans; Merciful Forever. See 001:001. A/t/a, ‘Most Merciful,’ ‘Merciful,’ ‘Ever Merciful’ and ‘All-‘Merciful’)
** Note 005:099. The word اِعۡلَمُوۡۤا means you should or must know since its first letter Alif has the vowel kusra (zair) under it as shown by most authors. A Yusuf Ali also translated it as Know ye but showed the first letter Alif with the vowel futha (zabar) above it and so a verb in the past tense for the 3rd person which would mean they knew.
