The Holy Qor-aan                                         083:008                      ○    كَلَّاۤ اِنَّ كِتٰبَ الۡفُجَّارِ لَفِىۡ سِجِّيۡنٍ ؕ‏

                Kul-laa-in-na-kay-taa-bul-fooj-jaa-ray-la-fee-sij-jee-n

               Most certainly the fact is that the record of the wicked is in Sijjeen

• كَلَّا — Kul-laa — The fact is (= Absolutely not; fact is; in effect; indeed; instead; like it was never; nay; the reality is. See Note 078:005)
• اِنَّ — In-na — Certainly * (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; positively; really; seriously; surely; truly; verily. See our Commentary “2 Words of Emphasis used together Multiply Effect” why ‘certainly, certainly’ is best translated as ‘most certainly’)
• كِتٰبَ — Kay-taa-ba..(ul) — Book (= Account statement. Authentic written chronicle of what man did in his life. Penned down in black and white the story of his whole life.. The register collecting and recording all his omissions and commissions in his life)
• الۡفُجَّارِ — Fooj-jaa-ray — Wicked   (= n., pl., Bad, evil or vile persons)
• لَ — La – Certainly * (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; positively; really; seriously; surely; truly; verily)
• فِىۡ — Fee — In (= Contained inside a duration, event, time, place or thing — (Saved; preserved; protected; recorded; registered)
• سِجِّيۡنٌ — Sij-jee-n — Sijjeen (= Accurate, sealed and secured book, record or register relative to the inmates incarcerated in the prisons)

The Holy Qor-aan                                        083:009                                   ○   وَمَاۤ اَدۡرٰٮكَ مَا سِجِّيۡنٌ ؕ‏

                Wa-maa-ud-raa-ke-maa-sij-jee-n

                And who will tell you what is Sijjeen

                Kay-taa-boom-mur-qoo-m

               It is a written record

• كِتٰبٌ — Kay-taa-boon — Record (= The sealed and secured statement of an account, written book, penned down record or chronicled register of a person’s life story as to what to what he did in his life time including all his omissions and commissions)
• مَّرۡقُوۡمٌ — Mur-qoo-m — Written (= Accurate, authentic, comprehensive, distinct, fully inscribed, perpetually updated and meticulously kept record or register that leaves out no detail of any good or bad deed done)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         083:011                                     ○   وَيۡلٌ يَّوۡمَٮِٕذٍ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِيۡنَ ۙ‏

                 Wai-loon-yao-ma-e-zin-lil-mo-kuz-zay-bee-n

                 Sad is that day for the deniers

• وَيۡلٌ۬ — Wai-loon — Sad (= How painful or unfortunate; chastisement; sadness; what a misfortune; woe unto)
• يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ   Yao-ma-e-zin — That day (= Judgment Day; Day of Accounting and Settlement)
• لِّ — L…(il) — For (= For the purpose or reason; concerning; regarding; relative to; directed toward; with intent to or object of
• مُكَذِّبِيۡنَ — Mo-kuz-zay-bee-n — Deniers (= n., pl.,  Beliers, liars; rejecters or repudiators who refuse to accept the truth)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         083:012                               ○   الَّذِيۡنَ يُكَذِّبُوۡنَ بِيَوۡمِ الدِّيۡنِ

                Ul-la-zee-na-yo-kuz-zay-boo-na-bay-yao-mid-dee-n

               Who deny the Day of Judgment

• ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Deniers of the Day of Judgment)
• يُكَذِّبُوۡنَ — Yo-kuz-zay-boo-na — They deny (= Disclaim, falsify, rebut, refuse, reject, renounce or repudiate. Fail to accept the truth. Lie;. Misstate; Behave hypocritically or practice hypocrisy)
• بِ — Bay — With (= This word in Arabic literally means ‘with’)
• يَوۡمِ — Yao-m…(id) — Day (= s., A period, term or time that ends; juncture)
• الدِّيۡنِ — Deen — Judgment (= Judgment Day. The End. The last day of conclusion, recompense or requital. The day after the Faith is established)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         083:013                         ○   وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهٖۤ اِلَّا كُلُّ مُعۡتَدٍ اَثِيۡمٍ ۙ‏

                 Wa-maa-yo-kuz-zay-bo-bay-he-il-laa-kool-lo-moe-ta-din-aa-thee-m

                 And nobody denies it except every transgressor, sinner

• اِلَّا — Il-laa — Except (= Apart from; but; besides; excluding; save; unless)
• كُلُّ — Kool-lo — Every (= All; altogether; each and everyone; entirely; everything without exception; totally; very much; wholly)
• مُعۡتَدٍ — Moe-ta-din — Transgressor (= n., Who crosses known boundaries, exceeds marked limits, goes beyond bounds and tramples all over in disbelief, disobedience and oppression)
• اَثِيۡمٍ — Aa-thee-m — Highly sinful (= superlative form: Big and confirmed sinner. Evil-doers; Exceeding all limits. Habitual offender. Hardened criminal. Real guilty who commits lots of sins)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         083:014            ○    اِذَا تُتۡلٰى عَلَيۡهِ اٰيٰتُنَا قَالَ اَسَاطِيۡرُ الۡاَوَّلِيۡنَ ؕ‏

               Ezaa-toot-laa-alai-hay-aa-yaa-to-naa–qaa-la-asaa-tee-rool-uwwa-leen

               When Our signs are read to him, he says, “Former Folks Fables.”

• اِ ذَ ا — Ezaa — When (= Any time or event; now that; whenever)
• تُتۡلٰى — Toot-laa — Read (= Narrated; recited; rehearsed; related; stated; told)
• عَلَيۡ — Alai — On /To (= Above; against; before; for; on; on top of; over)
• هِ — Hay — That (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid sinner)
• اٰيٰتُ — Aa-yaa-to — Sign (= n., pl., 1. Manifestation; message; narrative; verse; revelation. 2. Command; direction; law; order. 3. Sign; corroboration; evidence; indication; lesson; portent; pointer; proof; symbol; token. 4. Part, portion pointing to the truth. 5.Every element to create clear crystal picture leading to an absolute conviction. 6. Argument or indication highlighting the manifestations of Truth)
• نَآ — Naa — Our (= pro., pl., 1st person. Us. Used with God’s name it reflects the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
• قَا لَ — Qaa-la — Said (= v., past, s., f, 3rd person. Alleged; announced; argued;
  asserted; broadcast; challenged; claimed; contended; contested; countered; conveyed; declared; informed; maintained; objected; professed; stated; told)
• اَسَاطِيۡرُ — Asaa-tee-r..(ol) — Fables (= Fibs; fictions; stories; tales)
• الۡاَوَّلِيۡنَ — Uwwa-leen — Former folks (= The ancients, men of old, old timers or past people; those gone-by; those of yore. A/t/a old wives tales)

The Holy Qor-aan                                        083:015              ○كَلَّا‌ بَلۡ- رَانَ عَلٰى قُلُوۡبِهِمۡ مَّا كَانُوۡا يَكۡسِبُوۡنَ‏

                Kul-laa–bul–raa-na-alaa-alaa-qo-loo-bay-him-maa-kaa-noo-yuk-se-boon

               The fact, however, is that rust is on their hearts due to what they had been earning.

• كَلَّا — Kul-laa — The fact is (= Absolutely not; fact is; in effect; indeed; instead; like it was never; nay; the reality is. See Note 078:005)
• بَلۡ — Ba…( ul) — However (= Aye; nay; but the truth is; however; instead; of course; nevertheless; on the contrary; rather; really; the fact is; truthfully; verily; yea but; yes indeed)
• رَانَ — Raa-na — Rust (= 1. Cast and left behind a mark, proof, rust or stain.
  2. Covering of sin, evil deed and disobedience of God. 3. We saw and took notice of.) *
• عَلٰى — Alaa — On (= Above; against; before; for; on top of; over; upon)
• قُلُوۡب — Qo-loo-bay — Hearts (= Mind. Souls. Ability to think, choose, decide and act in appropriate manner both physically and spiritually)
• هِمۡ — Him — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to those who dismiss God’s sign as ‘Former Folks Fibs ‘)
• مَّا — Maa — What (= 1. All that; whatever; whatsoever. 2. Any time; at such time; when; whenever)
• كَانُوۡا — Kaa-noo — Had been ( = v., pl., 3rd person. Used to. Conveys continuation from the past to the present and leading into the future – like ‘continued doing’, ‘used to’ or ‘went on doing’)
• يَكۡسِبُونَ — Yuk-se-boon — They…earning (= v., pres., pl., 3^rd person. Committing; getting gains; performing; pocketing profits; receiving returns. The context shows whether it is conveying the (a) doing of  good honest work or (b) doing of bad acts, cheating, committing evil deeds, delivering defective products, rendering poor services, or performing other work fraudulently as in this case of 083:015)

* Note 083:015. It appears to be a combination of two words. The first word رَا (raa-a) means ‘appeared, looked, noticed, observed, saw or watched.’ The second word نَآ (naa) means ‘We or Us’ (= pro., pl., 1st person) and refers to God. When used for God it reflects the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate. The combination indicates the ‘left over, mark, proof, residue, rust or stain an earlier act.’ So the whole verse could mean, “We see their hearts rusted with what they used to do.”

The Holy Qor-aan                                         083:016                ○  كَلَّاۤ اِنَّهُمۡ عَنۡ رَّبِّهِمۡ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ لَّمَحۡجُوۡبُوۡن َ‌ؕ‏

                Kul-laa–in-na-hoom-un-rub-bay-him-yao-ma-e-zin-la-mauh-joo-boo-n

               The fact most certainly is that they on that day will be veiled from seeing their God

• كَلَّا — Kul-laa — (= Absolutely not; fact is; in effect; indeed; instead; like it was never; nay; the reality is. See Note 078:005)
• اِنَّ — In-na — Certainly * (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; positively; really; seriously; surely; truly; verily)
• هُمۡ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid persons, those who dismiss God’s sign as ‘Former Folks Fibs ‘)
• عَنۡ — Un — From (= About; concerning; regarding; relative to)
• رَّبِّ — Rub-bay — God (= The Almighty Allah who fills needs of all creatures;
  Cherisher; Creator; Guardian; Master; Lord Provident.  The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. The Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist)
• هِمۡ — Him — Their (= pro., pl., m., in 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid persons, those who dismiss God’s sign as ‘Former Folks Fibs ‘)
• يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ — Yao-ma-e-zin — That day (= Judgment Day; Day of Accounting and Settlement)
• لَ — La — Certainly * (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; positively; really; seriously; surely; truly; verily)
• مَحۡجُوۡبُوۡن — Mauh-joo-boo-n — Veiled ** (= Literally:- Concealed, covered, hidden, put behind a barrier; shielded. A/t/a debarred disentitled, dismissed, disinherited, kept away, prevented, prohibited or limited, restricted or ousted from God’s compassion, forgiveness, light, mercy or sight of Almighty God)

** Note 083:016. Really a sinners’ own sinning will veil him from seeing God. Some translations instead of using the literal meanings of this word chose differently They preferred ‘debarred, disentitled, disinherited, dismissed or kept away from ‘God’s light.’ The implication was that these sinners must never get God’s blessings, forgiveness or grace. To them the people ‘treating God’s signs as a fiction of the past ‘merit perpetual punishment.’ But the Almighty has declared (004-049) that only idolatry is one sin that He won’t forgive. The concept to hold said sinners not ‘allowed to even see’ God really conveys a human trait. It applied the rule of ‘Enemy of my friend is my enemy’ to deprive them of God’s Blessings. The accurate thing to say seems to be that their acts will veil them from getting God’s Grace. See or Commentary ‘Praying for others.’

The Holy Qor-aan                                         083:017                                   ○  ثُمَّ اِنَّهُمۡ لَصَالُوا الۡجَحِيۡمِ ؕ‏

                Thoom-ma-in-na-hoom-la-suaa-lool-ja-heem

                Then most certainly they will enter in the Hell

• ثُمَّ — Thoom-ma — Then (= After that; further more; subsequently; thereafter)
• اِنَّ — In-na — Certainly * (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; positively; really; seriously; surely; truly; verily)
• هُمۡ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., in 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid persons, those who dismiss God’s sign as ‘Fibs of former Folks’)
• لَ — La — Certainly * (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; positively; really; seriously; surely; truly; verily)
• صَالُوا — Suaa-lo..(ol) — Enter (= Burn; roast; scorch)
• ٱلۡجَحِيم — Ja-heem — Hell (= Blazing fire; burning flame; Purgatory; Gehenna; hell-fire. scourge. Also the hellish life in this world)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         083:018                        ○ ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هٰذَا الَّذِىۡ كُنۡتُمۡ بِهٖ تُكَذِّبُوۡنَ ؕ‏

                Thoom-ma-yo-qaa-lo-haa-zul-la-zee-koon-toom-bay-he-to-kuz-zay-boon

               Then it will be said, “This is with what you used to deny.”

• ثُمَّ — Thoom-ma — Then (= After that; subsequently; thereafter)
• يُقَالُ — Yo-qaa-lo  — It will be said (= v., pl., m., 3rd person. Announced; broadcast; called; conveyed; commanded; declared; dictated; directed; informed; laid down; mandated; ordered; specified; stated; told. A/t/a “A voice will say”)
• هَـٰذَا — Haa-za…(ul)  — This (= The article, thing or person present before the talker)
• الَّذِىۡ — La-zee — That (= s., m., 3rd person. Refers to ‘the truth’)
• كُنۡ — Koon — Used to (= Conveys continuity from the past and going into future)
• تُمۡ — Toom — You (= pl., m., 2nd person. You men. Generally this way the Holy Qor-aan addresses both men and women. Some translations have pinned this ‘you’ to Arab pagans and those who doubted the genuineness and truthfulness of the Holy Qor-aan as a revelation from the Almighty)
• بِ — Bay — With (= This word in Arabic literally means ‘with’)
• هٖۤ — He — What (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Judgment Day)
