The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                 095:001 to 009

Verses of the Holy Qor-aan are quoted on this site with the numbers, the first set of three being the number of Soorah (Chapter) followed by the last set of three being the number of the verse. The numbers include بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏ as the verse #1 in every Soorah except the Soorah #9. The original Arabic word is shown first, or in Col #1. The phonetic transliteration in English is shown next, or in Col #2, and is based upon words commonly pronounced like bat, cat, sat → fate, gate, hate → bait, trait → bay, nay, say → be, he, she → bet, pet, wet → bit, fit, sit → cot, dot, rot → boot, hoot, root → bout, rout → but, cut, hut, ultimatum. The English equivalent to the Arabic words (shown first, or in Col #1) are provided next, or in Col #3. Some other alternates in English used in other translations are given last, or in Col #4.

Chapter # 95                                           Soora-toot-Teen                                   سُوۡرَةُ التِّین


بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ

وَالتِّيۡنِ وَالزَّيۡتُوۡنِۙ‏  ○  وَطُوۡرِ سِيۡنِيۡنَۙ‏ وَهٰذَا الۡبَلَدِ الۡاَمِيۡنِۙ‏ ○ لَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا الۡاِنۡسَانَ فِىۡۤ اَحۡسَنِ تَقۡوِيۡمٍ ○ ثُمَّ رَدَدۡنٰهُ اَسۡفَلَ سَافِلِيۡنَۙ‏  ○  اِلَّا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ فَلَهُمۡ اَجۡرٌ غَيۡرُ مَمۡنُوۡنٍؕ‏  ○  فَمَا يُكَذِّبُكَ بَعۡدُ بِالدِّيۡنِ‏  ○  اَلَيۡسَ اللّٰهُ بِاَحۡكَمِ الۡحٰكِمِيۡنَ‏ 

  1. Bis-mil-laa-hir-rah-maa-nir-ra-heem
  2. Wut-tee-nay-wuz-zai-too-nay
  3. Wa-too-ray-see-nee-na
  4. Wa-haa-zul-ba-la-dil-amee-nay
  5. La-qud-kha-luq-nul-in-saa-na-fee-ah-sa-nay-tuq-weem.
  6. Thoom-ma-ra-dud-naa-ho-us-fa-la-saa-fe-lee-na
  7. Il-lul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo-wa-aa-me-loos-suaa-le-haa-tay-fa-la-hoom-uj-roon-ghai-room-mum-noon.
  8. Fa-maa-yo-kuz-zay-bo-ka-bau-do-bid-deen
  9. Aa-lai-sul-laa-ho-bay-auh-ka-mil-haa-kay-meen

  1. With the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful I begin
  2. By the fig and the olive
  3. By the mount Sinai
  4. By this city of peace
  5. Surely We created the man in an excellent formation
  6. Then We turned him over to a state lower than the lowest
  7. Except those who believed and did good deeds; then for them is a reward without end.
  8. Then who will belie you after the Faith (= The Judgment has become clear)
  9. Is not Allah the best Judge of all those who judge?

The Holy Qor-aan                                       095:001                                   ○بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏

Bis-mil-laa-hir-rah-maa-nir-ra-heem

With the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful I begin.

(Beginning, commencing, starting)

  • بِ — B…(is) — With (= This Arabic word literally means ‘with’. Its translation in English is more accurate with ‘with’ than with ‘in’)
  • سۡمِ — Ism…(il) — The name of (= The way to be addressed or called)
  • اللهِ — Laa-h…(ir) — Allah (= The Almighty God; the One Only worthy of worship)
  • الرَّحۡمٰنِ — Rah-maa-n(ir) — The Most Beneficent (= The One who fully, totally and wholly benefits all, to the maximum, with no condition, limitation or restriction. Compassionate. Gracious)
  • الرَّحِيۡمِ — Ra-heem — The Most Merciful (= The One who fully, totally and wholly showers mercy, to the maximum, again and again, continually, indefinitely and perpetually like the endlessly incoming waves from the oceans)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         095:002                                             وَالتِّيۡنِ وَالزَّيۡتُوۡنِۙ‏

Wut-tee-nay-wuz-zai-too-nay

By the fig and the olive *

  • وَ — Wa…(ut) — By (= The وَ  vaao is tantamount to taking oath; solemn declaration or calling as a witness. Normally a Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; also; and; but; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • التِّيۡنِ — Tee-nay — The fig tree (= Different translators have illustrated this with various stories and Biblical references such as Jews hated the fig-tree and Jesus cursing it to cause it to wither) *
  • وَ — Wa…(uz) — By (= The وَ  vaao is tantamount to taking oath.  See وَ above)
  • الزَّيۡتُوۡنِۙ‏ — Zai-too-nay — The olive tree (= * See the note below)

* Note 095:002 The first three verses have been interpreted as pointing to four periods of human evolution.

  1. Firstly, the Fig era when the Prophet Adam and his mate Eve realized the need to cover themselves with the leaves of a fig tree and that started forming a decent human society.
  2. Secondly, the Olive era when the Prophet Noah on the 40th in his ark on the flood waters released a bird. The bird returned with a dry twig of an olive-tree in its beak. It became clear that the land was nearby, flood about to end, and man going to find peace.
  3. Thirdly, the Mount Sinai era when the Prophet Moses received the Ten Commandments, and mankind was set on way to become the Best of Beings by following the Book.
  4. Finally, the City of Peace (Muk-kuah) era where the Holy Prophet Mohammed s.a.w got the perfection of the Book, the completed Code and the Faith finished to its apex.

The Holy Qor-aan                                             095:003                                          وَطُوۡرِ سِيۡنِيۡنَ

Wa-too-ray-see-nee-na

By the mount Sinai

  • وَ — Wa — By (= The وَ  vaao is tantamount to taking oath; solemn declaration or calling as a witness)
  • طُوۡرِ — Too-ray — Mount (= Hillside, mountain)
  • سِيۡنِيۡنَ — See-nee-na — Sinai (= Sinai. See above the Note 095:002)

The Holy Qor-aan                                           095:004                                            وَهٰذَا الۡبَلَدِ الۡاَمِيۡنِۙ‏

Wa-haa-zul-ba-la-dil-amee-nay

By this city of peace

  • وَ — Wa — By (= The وَ  vaao is tantamount to taking oath; solemn declaration or calling as a witness)
  • هٰذَا — Haa-zaa…(l) — This (= The article, thing or person present before the talker)
  • الۡبَلَدِۙ — Ba-la-d…(il) — City (= Area; territory; land; town. See above the Note 095:002)
  • الۡاَمِيۡنِۙ — Amee-nay — Peace (= Inviolate; made safe; peaceful; secure; security)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         095:005                         لَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا الۡاِنۡسَانَ فِىۡۤ اَحۡسَنِ تَقۡوِيۡمٍ     

La-qud-kha-luq-nul-in-saa-na-fee-ah-sa-nay-tuq-weem

Surely We created the man in an excellent formation

  • لَ — La — Surely (= Absolutely; certainly; definitely; positively; truly; verily)
  • قَدۡ — Qud — Surely (= Word laying emphasis on certainly, definitely and verily)
  • خَلَقۡ — Kha-luq — Created (= Brought into being; designed from scratch; fashioned)
  • نَآ — Naa…(l) — We  (= pro., pl., 1st person. Us. Used with God’s name it reflects the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
  • الۡاِنۡسَانَ — In-saa-na — Man (= Human beings; mankind)
  • فِىۡ — Fee — In (= In a form, place or thing; in a duration of a time period)
  • اَحۡسَنِ — Ah-sa-nay — Excellent (= Apex; best; finest, noble; tops)
  • تَقۡوِيۡمٍ — Tuq-weem — Formation (= Creation; image; make; mould; stature; material used to create a thing from a scratch with built-in capabilities to evolve as human beings with significant advancements in progress and humanism. Also, an organizational plan)

The Holy Qor-aan                                     095:006                                         ثُمَّ رَدَدۡنٰهُ اَسۡفَلَ سَافِلِيۡنَۙ‏

Thoom-ma-ra-dud-naa-ho-us-fa-la-saa-fe-lee-na

Then We turned him over to a state lower than the lowest

  • ثُمَّ — Thoom-ma — Then (= After that; henceforth; thereafter)
  • رَدَدۡ — Ra-dud — Returned (= Abased; brought in; cast down; degraded; reduced; rendered and reverted. Also, rejected)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Us. Used with God’s name it reflects the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
  • هُ — Ho — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to man)
  • اَسۡفَلَ — Us-fala — Lower than (= Very low; shallow)
  • سَافِلِيۡنَ — Saa-fe-lee-na — Lowest (= Absolutely the lowest; at the bottom of the barrel)

اِلَّا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ فَلَهُمۡ اَجۡرٌ غَيۡرُ مَمۡنُوۡنٍؕ‏

               

Il-lul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo-wa-aa-may-loos-suaa-lay-haa-tay                                                Fa-la-hoom-uj-roon-ghai-room-mum-noon

Except those who believed and practiced proper Acts.                                                Then for them the reward is without end.

  • اِلَّا — Il-la…(ul) — Except (= Apart from; besides; excluding; save; unless)

The Holy Qor-aan has used the Phrase Aa-ma-noo-wa-amay … in many places

  • الَّذِيۡن – La-zee-na — Those (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to the Believers)
  • اٰمَنُوۡا — Aa-ma-noo — They Believed  (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Believed in the Holy Qor-aan; became Moslems; entered Isslaam. See Commentaries Islam – 101 and Believe and Disbelieve. A/t/a, ‘believed,’ ‘believed (in the Oneness of Allah — Islamic Monotheism)’ and ‘have faith’)  
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • عَمِلُوا — Aa-may-loo(s) — Practiced (= v., past., pl., 3rd person.  Acted; carried out; did; kept up; followed; led; lived out; made effort; performed; practiced; pursued; persisted in; strove; tried best; worked)
  • الصّٰلِحٰتِ — Sua-lay-haa-tay — Proper acts (= n., pl., Appropriate, befitting, correct, decent, fit, good, holy, honorable, moral, pious, proper, respectable, right; righteous, upright, virtuous or worthy acts, activities, deeds, manners, operations, practices, performances, pursuits, righteousness or works. Righteous actions which are appropriate in manner, time and place)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; as a result; so; thereafter; therefore; yet)
  • لَ — La — For (= For the benefit, object, purpose or reason of; with intent to)
  • ھُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them  (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Points to the Believers)
  • اَجۡرٌ — Uj-ro — Reward (= Consequence; outcome; recompense; result. Paradise)
  • غَيۡرُ — Ghai-ro — Without (= Besides; not; other than; out of)
  • مَمۡنُوۡنٍ — Mum-noon — End (= Bounds; cut off; limits; severances. This word when combined with the previous word mean everlasting; perpetual; unending; unfailing; never failing)

* Note 095:007.  But for one letter فَ (that comes after the words عَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ and before the words لَهُمۡ ) the verses 084:026 and 095:007 are repeats. Both deliver an identical message.

The Holy Qor-aan                                        095:008                                      فَمَا يُكَذّ بُكَ بَعۡدُ بِالدِّيۡنِ

Fa-maa-yo-kuz-zay-bo-ka-bau-do-bid-deen

Then who will belie you after the Faith (= The Judgment has become clear)

  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; as a result; so; thereafter; therefore; yet)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — Who (= All that; whatever; whatsoever; whoever)
  • يُكَذّ بُ — Yo-kuz-zebo — Will belie (= Contradict; deny; dispute; give lie; refute; treat as a liar)
  • كَ — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You single male. The addressee of this divine message is initially the Holy Prophet s.a.w and secondarily every Moslem, in fact every human being. See the Note under 002:005)
  • بَعۡدُ — Bau-do — After (= Behind; henceforth; later)
  • بِ — B..(id) — With (= About; entitled to; of; in ref to; relative to; suited for)
  • الدِّيۡنِ — Deen — Faith (= Conclusion; end; Judgment that has come out as a result of or after the Faith has become established. Requital)

The Holy Qor-aan                                         095:009                                 اَلَيۡسَ اللّٰهُ بِاَحۡكَمِ الۡحٰكِمِيۡنَ‏

Aa-lai-sul-laa-ho-bay-auh-ka-mil-haa-kay-meen

Is not Allah the best Judge of all those who judge?

  • أ — Aa — Do (= Question mark. Equivalent to Are? Can? Do? Shell? Will?)
  • لَيۡسَ — Lai-sa…(ul) — No, not (= Absolute denial; never; not at all; total negation)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= About; entitled to; of; in ref to; relative to; suited for)
  • اَحۡكَمِ — Auh-ka-m…(il) — Best Judge (= Best administrator; most just; most conclusive; top decision maker; Wisest)
  • الۡحٰكِمِيۡنَ — Ha-kay-meen — Who judge (= pl., Administrators; deciders; decision-makers; judges; the Wisest)
