The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                  108:001 to 004

Verses of the Holy Qor-aan are quoted on this site with a 6-digit number; the first three digits tell of Soorah (Chapter) and the last three digits tell of verse. Numbering includes بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏    as verse #1 in every Soorah except Soorah #9. The phonetic transliteration in English is based upon words commonly pronounced as bat, cat, sat → fate, gate, hate → bait, trait → bay, nay, say → be, he, she → bet, pet, wet → bit, fit, sit → cot, dot, rot → boot, hoot, root → bout, rout → but, cut, hut, rut. An Arabic letter with the vowel Fatah is best shown with a‘u’ as in cut, hut, rut, but letter ‘a’ is often placed before ‘u’ to make it doubly sure that it is read as in cause, pause, clause and not with a sound of ‘oo’ as in hoot, root, shoot or put. All Arabic words are translated in American English and are followed by alternates which other translators have used.

Chapter # 108                                  Soora-tool-Kau-ther                                سُوۡرَةُ الکَوثَر

بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ

اِنَّاۤ اَعۡطَيۡنٰكَ الۡكَوۡثَرَؕ‏ ○ فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَانۡحَرۡ ؕ‏ ○ اِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ الۡاَبۡتَرُ

 

  1. Bay iss-may  il-laa-hay  ir-rah-maa-nay  ir-ra-heem
  2. In-naa au-tai-naa  ka  ul-kao-ther
  3. Fa saul-lay  lay  raub-bay  ka  wa  un-her
  4. In-na shau-nay-aa  ka  ho-wa  ul-aub-ter

The Holy Qor-aan                                       108:001                                   ○بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏

Bay  iss-may  il-laa-hay  ir-rah-maa-nay  ir-ra-hee-m

With the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful I begin

(Beginning, commencing, starting)

  • بِ — Bay … (is) — With (= The best translation of the word  بِ  is ‘with’ but some contexts may warrant its translation as ‘in’)
  • سۡمِ — Iss-may … (il) — The name of (= The way to be addressed or called)
  • اللهِ — Laa-hay … (ir) — Allah (= The Almighty God; the One Only worthy of worship)
  • الرَّحۡمٰنِ — Rah-maa-n … (ir) — The Most Beneficent (= adj., Compassionate. Gracious. None more than Him benefits. As n: The One Who fully, totally and wholly benefits all, to the maximum without any condition, limitation or restriction. The Greatest and Highest Benefactor Who wills goodness and mercy to all His creation See Note 001:001)
  • الرَّحِيۡمِ — Ra-hee-m — The Most Merciful (= adj., Superlative form indicates the Greatest Merciful. Merciful Forever. The word floodlights that none more than Him shows kindness and mercy, again and again, continually, incessantly, like perpetually coming waves from oceans)

The Holy Qor-aan                                       108:002                                         إنَّآ أَعۡطَيۡنَـٰكَ ٱلۡكَوۡثَرَ

In-naa  au-tai-naa  ka  ul-kao-ther

We certainly gave you the Abundance.

  • إنَّآ — In-naa– We certainly    (= Combines two words.  اِنَّ  means ‘certainly, definitely, surely or verily. And  نَآ  means all of us. Joined together the word  اِنَّا (in-naa) combines both meanings. The addressee of this divine message is initially the Holy  Prophet s.a.w  See below and the Note 002:005)
  •  اَعْطَيْنَا — Au-tai-naa — We gave (= v., past., pl., 1st person. Awarded. Bestowed. Blessed.  Conferred. Donated. Gave. Gifted. Granted. Placed. For the meanings of  نَآ see the prior word)
  •  كَ — Ka … (ul) — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You single male)
  •  ٱلۡكَوۡثَر — Kao-ther — The abundance (= n., Abundance of good in this life and the Hereafter. A spring of gushing unending supply of water. A fountain of unlimited Divine or Heavenly blessings. Heavenly fountain. The name of a river in the paradise)

** Note 108:002. The segment  نَآ  (naa = pro., pl., 1st person) means we, us, our and ours. Used with God’s name it reflects the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate. Its repetition as a part of two consecutive words in a small 4-worded verse has added exclusivity in the meanings, i.e., “It’s We and Only We Who gave you all that Abundance”)

The Holy Qor-aan                                          108:003                                           فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَٱنۡحَرۡ   

Fa  saul-lay  lay  raub-bay  ka  wa  un-her

So  pray to your God and make sacrifice.

  • فَ — Fa — So (= After all this; as a result; at the end; but; consequently; hence; in conclusion; so; then; thereafter; therefore; thus; yet. See 002:027)
  • صَلِّ — Saul-lay — You pray (= v., pres., s., 2nd person. Beseech. Invoke. Pray. Supplicate. See Note 108:003 below)
  • لَ — La — For / To (= For the benefit, object, person, purpose or reason of; intended for; meant for; concerning; regarding; relative to; to; towards; unto.. Also, because; on account of; so that. See Note 002:003a)
  • رَبّ — Rub-bay — GOD / LORD (= The Almighty Allah who fills needs of all creatures; Cherisher; Creator; Guardian; Lord Provident; Master; The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. The Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist)
  • كَ — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You single male. See  كَ  above)
  • وَ — Wa … (un) — And (= Conj., Links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • ٱنۡحَر — N-her — Sacrifice (= v., pres., s., 2nd person. The word means to sacrifice by     slaughtering a camel which physically of a big animal is also financially a valuable asset)

** Note 108:003. The command with the word  صَلِّ  includes several meanings.

  1. Expressing gratitude night and day, all the time, in everything as directed in 003:192.
  2. Offering appropriately (e., properly, regularly) the five daily prayers mandated upon the Believers.
  3. Making others to invoke blessings. This phenomenon has not been understood by some. ` The دَ رُ وْ د شَرِيْف  (drood) is a prayer that is said it in every prayer although the whole is not a part of the Holy Qor-aan. Its repetitions exceeds a dozen of times very day. It has two segments that differ from each other in only one concept.

The first segment uses the word  صَلٌِ  (a request in the 2nd person format to make others in the 3rd person format) to invoke blessings on Mohammad, the Holy Prophet, s.a.w. This segment then uses a derivate from its Root, a verb in the past tense, quotes an example from history, and beseeches “As in the past You had made others bless him.”

The second segment uses the word  بَا رِكْ  (a request in the 2nd person format made to the addressee in 2nd person) to invoke blessings on the beneficiary, Mohammad, the Holy Prophet, s.a.w. This segment then uses a derivate from its Root in the past tense, quotes an example from history, and beseeches “As in the past You had blessed him.”

The Holy Qor-aan                                       108:004                                        إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلۡأَبۡتَرُ

In-na  shau-nay-aa  ka  ho-wa  ul-aub-ter

Your enemy surely is who is and will end up childless.

  • اِنَّ — In-na — Surely (= Absolutely; certainly; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; in all seriousness; positively; really; truly; verily)
  • شَانِئَ — Shau-ne-aa — Enemy (= n., s., Adversary. Antagonist. Enemy. Foe. Insulter. not  a well-wisher One who hates. Opponent. Unfriendly)
  • كَ — Ka — Your (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You single male. See   كَ   above)
  • هُوَ —  Ho-wa … (ul) — He who (= pro, s., m., in 3rd person. Refers to the aforesaid enemy)
  • ٱلۡأَبۡتَرُ — Ub-ter — The childless (= n., Cut off; deprived of spiritual issues; severed; with no child, issue or offspring to carry on the progeny, name and other multi-generational assets, benefits,  heirlooms or other valuables; leaving no posterity; without lineal generations or posterity; with no future)

** Note 108:004. This small Soorah has numerous interpretations and extrapolations. Its purport lies in its four simple words:  You.  Abundance.  Enemy.  Childless.

 

  • ‘You’ refers to the Holy Prophet a.w as the primary addressee of this divine message. Secondary addressee is every Moslem, in fact every human being.
  • ‘Abundance’ of good in the form of the Holy Qor-aan is what God gave. Anyone can enjoy the proliferating advantages of this Abundance by utilizing it.
  • The ‘enemy’ won’t see the value of this Abundance. His eyes are covered under his own veil of animosity. He will miss taking advantage of its unending benefits.
  • The enemy is destined to die ‘Childless’ like dead wood No one will succeed him. No one will perpetuate his legacy. No one will follow him or in next generation miss him.

It is an assurance. The Holy Prophet s.a.w and his companions brutalized with extreme atrocities were assured of a bright and brilliant future as practitioners of Islam.

It is a forecast. Moslems who believe and practice the teachings of the Holy Qor-aan are foretold that they would grow and multiply and their opponents would diminish into extinction.

It is a lesson. Today they are shown right. Today history shows examples of their success. Today future promises similar successes as long as they keep repeating them again and again.

It is a universal truth All human beings can attain spiritual and temporal prowess by practicing the blissful teachings. Non-followers have always fallen to destruction and oblivion.
