The Holy Qor-aan 002:008
خَتَمَ اللّٰهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوۡبِهِمۡ وَعَلٰى سَمۡعِهِمۡؕ وَعَلٰىٓ اَبۡصَارِهِمۡ غِشَاوَةٌ وَّلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ عَظِيۡمٌ
Kha-ta-ma ul-laa-ho
Aa-laa qo-loo-bay him wa aa-laa saum-aiy him
Wa aa-laa aub-saa-ray him ghay-shaa-wa-toon
Wa la hoom aa-zaa-boon aa-zee-m
Allah has sealed
Their hearts and their hearing.
And on their eyes is a covering.
And for them is a grievous punishment.
- خَتَمَ — Kha-ta-ma … (ul) — Sealed (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Closed; fastened; put a seal on; shut; stopped; stuck down; taped; wrapped)
- اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
- عَلٰى — Aa-laa — On (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; on top of; over; to; upon)
- قُلُوۡب — Qo-loo-bay– Hearts (= n., pl., Refers to the ability to think, choose, decide and act in an appropriate manner physically and spiritually. Mind. Inner soul. Understanding. Physically the central organ inside the chest of all living creatures that keeps up the supply of blood to every tissue by pumping blood constantly through veins and controls the body parts and directs all their functions)
- هِمۡ — Him — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. They; them; those; theirs. Ref to aforesaid specified shown or stated articles, things or persons – the disbelievers stated in the previous verse)
- وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
- عَلٰى — Aa-laa — On (= Above; over; upon. See عَلٰى above)
- سَمۡع — Saum-aiy — Hearing (= n., Ears. Ability to hear and listen physically and spiritually)
- هِمۡ — Him — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. They. See هِمۡ above)
- وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases. See وَ above)
- عَلٰى — Aa-laa — On (= Above; over; upon. See عَلٰى above)
- اَبۡصَارِ — Aub-saa-ray — Eyes / Seeing (= n., pl. Gazes. Seeing. Sights. Visions. Also the ability to see physically and spiritually. See Note 002:008 below)
- هِمۡ — Him — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. They. See هِمۡ above)
- غِشَاوَةٌ — Ghay-shaa-wa-toon — Covering (= n., Any obstruction that hides a plain view. Blinds. Cover. Curtain. Drape. Dimmer. Screen. Shade. Veil)
- وَّ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases. See وَ above)
- لَ — Laa — For (= For the benefit, object, person, purpose or reason of; intended for; meant for; concerning; regarding; relative to. Also, because; on account of; so that. See 002:003a)
- هُمۡ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. They. See هِمۡ above)
- عَذَابٌ — Aa-zaa-boon — Punishment (= n., Appropriate, due and fair agony, chastisement, doom, hard task, penalty, recompense; torment, torture or scourge)
- عَظِيۡمٌ — Aa-zee-m — Grievous (= adj., Awful. Big. Great. Grievous. This adj is used for both good and bad things and its meanings for good things such as awesome, glorious, magnificent, mighty and tremendous are not appropriate here)
** Note 002:008: The word اَبۡصَارِ (eyes) refers to the following.
- Physically, an eye is a spherical organ of sight or light sensitivity in all creatures that has light-sensitivity and cone cells in its retina that converts light into impulses and transmits it to the brain to interpret.
- Externally, visible part of the eye and the area of face around it, including the orbit, eyelid, and eyelashes.
- Metaphysically, the ability to see comprehend, understand and visualize physically and
