The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                006:116

 

وَتَمَّتۡ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ صِدۡقًا وَّعَدۡلاً  ؕ لَا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمٰتِهٖ‌ ۚ  وَهُوَ السَّمِيۡعُ الۡعَلِيۡمُ

Wa-tum-mut-ka-lay-maa-to-rub-bay-ka                                                                                          Sid-qun-wa-ud-lun                                                                                                                                Laa-mo-bud-day-la-lay-ka-lay-maa-tay-he                                                                                Wa-ho-wus-sa-mee-ool-aa-lee-m

 

And completed are the words of your God                                                                         As the Truth and as the Justice.                                                                                                    There is no changer for His words.                                                                                      And He is the Most Hearing, the Most Knowing.

  • كَلِمَتُ — Ka-lay-maa-to — Words (= n., pl., Affirmations; announcements; assignments; commands; declarations; inspirations; messages; phrases; prayers; promise; proofs. pronouncements; revelation; signs; statement. A/t/a, ‘words,’ ‘word’ and ’(prophetic) word’)
  • رَبِّ — Rub-bay — Lord Provident (= The Almighty Allah who fills all needs of all His creatures. Cherisher. Creator;. Guardian. Lord Provident. Master. The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist)  A/t/a, ‘Lord’)
  • كَ — Ka — Your (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You. A/t/a, ’thy.’ See Note 002:005)
  • صِدۡقًا — Sid-qun — As the truth (= adv., In honesty, righteousness, sincerity or truthfulness. A/t/a, ‘in truth’ and ‘truly’)

  • عَدۡلاً– Ud-lun — As the justice (= adv., Balance; equity; expiation; fairness; ransom. A/t/a, ‘justice’ and ‘justly’)
  • لَا — Laa — No (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception. A/t/a, ‘There is none who’)
  • مُبَدِّلَ  — Mo-bud-day-la — Changer (= n., The person who can alter, change, make difference; modify, or vary the direction in which things were previously moving. A/t/a, ‘can change’ and ‘are constant’)
  • لِ  — Lay — For (= For the object, person, purpose or reason of; intended for; meant for; concerning; regarding; relative to)
  • كَلِمٰتِ — Ka-lay-maa-tay — Words (= n., pl., Commands; declarations. See كَلِمَتُ above. A/t/a, ‘words’)
  • هٖ — He — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the aforesaid person)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See  وَ   above)
  • هُوَ — Ho-wa … (us) — He (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. He; him; it. Refers to aforesaid shown, specified or stated article, thing or person)
  • ٱلسَّمِيعُ — Sa-mee-o..(l) — Most Hearing (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him hears the best. See 001:001. All-Hearing. The Most Hearing. The Hearer. Hears to the ultimate maximum. Hears wholly, entirely, surely, totally and truly. Real Hearer. The One from Whom nothing is ever missed or out of hearing. The One with total knowledge and nothing out of sight. Knows all.  Most Knowledgeable. Well-Acquainted. Well-Aware. اَفَغَيۡرَ اللّٰهِ اَبۡتَغِىۡ حَكَمًا وَّهُوَ الَّذِىۡۤ اَنۡزَلَ اِلَيۡكُمُ الۡـكِتٰبَ مُفَصَّلاً‌ ؕ  وَالَّذِيۡنَ اٰتَيۡنٰهُمُ الۡـكِتٰبَ يَعۡلَمُوۡنَ اَنَّهٗ مُنَـزَّلٌ مِّنۡ رَّبِّكَ بِالۡحَـقِّ‌ فَلَا تَكُوۡنَنَّ مِنَ الۡمُمۡتَرِيۡنَ‏

 

Aa-fa-ghai-rul-laa-hay-ub-ta-ghee-ha-ka-mun-wa-ho-wul-la-zee                                          Un-za-la-alai-ko-mool-kay-taa-ba-mo-fus-say-lun                                                                      Wul-la-zee-na-aa-tai-naa-ho-mool-ka-taa-ba                                                                             Yau-la-moo-na-un-na-hoo-mo-nuz-zay-loom-mir-rub-bay-ka                                                  Fa-laa-ta-koo-nun-na-may-nul-moom-ta-ree-n

 

Shall I then seek a Judge other than Allah and He is Who                                            Has revealed upon you the Book, fully explained.                                                    And those whom We gave the Book know that                                                                  It has been revealed from your God, with justification.                                                So be not among the doubters.

  • الۡـكِتٰبَ — Kay-taa-ba — The Book (= n., The Divine Directive of Commands, Prohibitions   and Regulations. Holy Scripture. A/t/a, ‘the Book (the Qur’an)’ and ‘this perfect Book.’ \See verse 002:003).

وَلِتَصۡغٰٓى اِلَيۡهِ اَفۡـِٕـِٕدَةُ الَّذِيۡنَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ بِالۡاٰخِرَةِ وَلِيَرۡضَوۡهُ وَلِيَقۡتَرِفُوۡا مَا هُمۡ مُّقۡتَرِفُوۡنَ

Wa-lay-tus-ghaa-elai-hif-aiy-da-tool-la-zee-na                                                                              Laa-yoe-may-noo-na-bil-aa-khay-ra-tay                                                                                        Wa-lay-yur-dzao-ho                                                                                                                              Wa-lay-yuq-ta-ray-foo-maa-hoom-mooq-ta-ray-foo-n

 

And for attracting to it the hearts of those who                                                              Do not believe in the Hereafter                                                                                                And for them to be pleased with it                                                                                        And for them to earn what they are earning.

وَكَذٰلِكَ جَعَلۡنَا لِكُلِّ نَبِىٍّ عَدُوًّا شَيٰطِيۡنَ الۡاِنۡسِ وَالۡجِنِّ يُوۡحِىۡ بَعۡضُهُمۡ اِلٰى بَعۡضٍ زُخۡرُفَ الۡقَوۡلِ غُرُوۡرًا‌ ؕ وَلَوۡ شَآءَ رَبُّكَ مَا فَعَلُوۡهُ‌ فَذَرۡهُمۡ وَمَا يَفۡتَرُوۡنَ

Wa-ka-zaa-lay-ka-ja-ul-naa-lay-kool-lay-na-be-yin                                                                  Aa-do-won-sha-yaa-tee-nul-in-say-wul-jin-nay                                                                          Yoo-he-bau-dzo-hoom-elaa-bau-dzin                                                                                        Zoogh-ro-ful-qao-lay-gho-roo-raa                                                                                                    Wa-lao-shaa-aa-rub-bo-ka-maa-fa-aa-loo-ho                                                                                Fa-zur-hoom-wa-maa-yuf-ta-roo-n

 

And this is how We made for every Prophet                                                                  The Satanic men and jinn in enmity,                                                                                    Some of them reveal to others                                                                                      Gilded speech as an illusion.                                                                                                And if your God had willed, they would not have done it.                                          So, leave them and what they are concocting.

  • جَعَلۡ — Ja-ul — Made (= v., past., 3rd person. Appointed; assigned; brought into being; created; designed; fashioned; formed; gave; invoked; made; put; set up. A/t/a, ‘did We make’ and ‘have We made’ )

  • شَيٰطِيۡنَ — Sha-yaa-te-no — Satanic (= n., pl., Plural of Satan. Bad or false deities, friends and people. Evil spirited companions, hypocrites, idolators, polytheists, rebels, ringleaders and wicked. A/t/a, ‘evil ones,’ ‘rebellious ones,’ ‘devils,’ ‘Shayatin (devils)’ and ‘satans’)
  • الۡاِنۡسِ — In-say — Man (= n., Mankind. A/t/a, ‘men,’ ‘from among men, high and low,’ among men,’ ‘among (ordinary) human beings’ and ‘among mankind’)
  • وَ –Wa … (ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ   above)
  • الۡجِنِّ — Jin-nay — The Jinn (= n., Djinn; Jin. Secret beings; hidden from being seen  by naked eye; fiery-natured haughty individuals)

** Note 006:113. The subject is the word  شَيٰطِيۡنَ  in the plural. So, its  اسم صفت (adj) عَدُوًّا must also be in the plural. Translating the adj in the singular when the subject is in the plural is NOT right. The best translation is that they fight and war with the Creator and inimically and grudgingly sever connections between Him and His creature Mankind.

وَلَوۡ اَنَّـنَا نَزَّلۡنَاۤ اِلَيۡهِمُ الۡمَلٰٓٮِٕكَةَ وَكَلَّمَهُمُ الۡمَوۡتٰى وَ حَشَرۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ كُلَّ شَىۡءٍ قُبُلًا مَّا كَانُوۡا لِيُؤۡمِنُوۡۤا اِلَّاۤ اَنۡ يَّشَآءَ اللّٰهُ وَلٰـكِنَّ اَكۡثَرَهُمۡ يَجۡهَلُوۡنَ

Wa-lao-un-na-naa-nuz-zul-naa-elai-hay-mool-ma-laa-aiy-ka-ta                                        Wa-kul-la-ho-mool-mao-taa                                                                                                            Wa-ha-shur-naa-alai-him-kool-la-shai-in-ko-bo-lun                                                                Maa-kaa-noo-lay-yoe-may-noo-il-laa-un-ya-shaa-ul-laa-ho                                                      Wa-laa-kin-na-uk-tha-ra-hoom-yuj-ha-loo-n

 

And surely if We had sent down to them angels,                                                          And all the dead had talked to them,                                                                                And We had gathered in front of them everything,                                                      They still would not believe unless Allah wills.                                                                But most of them act ignorantly.

وَنُقَلِّبُ اَفۡـــِٕدَتَهُمۡ وَاَبۡصَارَهُمۡ كَمَا لَمۡ يُؤۡمِنُوۡا بِهٖۤ اَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ وَّنَذَرُهُمۡ فِىۡ طُغۡيَانِهِمۡ يَعۡمَهُوۡنَ

 

Wa-no-qul-lay-bo-uf-aiy-da-ta-hoom-wa-ub-saa-ra-hoom                                                        Ka-maa-lum-yoe-may-noo-bay-he-auw-wa-la-mur-ra-tin                                                        Wa-na-za-ro-hoom-fee-toogh-yaa-nay-him-yau-ma-hoo-n

 

And We turn their hearts and their eyes away from Truth                                           Like the first time when they did not believe it                                                                  And Our leaving them in their contumacy, wandering blindly.

Wa-uq-sa-moo-bil-laa-hay-jauh-da-aiy-maa-nay-him                                                                La-in-jaa-ut-hoom-aa-ya-toon-la-yoe-may-noon-na-bay-haa                                                 Qool-inna-mul-aa-yaa-to-in-dul-laa-hay                                                                                          Wa-maa-yoosh-aiy-ro-koom                                                                                                              Unna-haa-ezaa-jaa-ut-laa-yoe-may-noon

 

And they swore by Allah their strongest of oaths, saying:                                      Most certainly they would believe in it if a Sign came.                                             Say, “Surely Signs come from Allah.                                                                               And what would make you realize for sure                                                                        That when that Sign came, they won’t believe.

وَلَا تَسُبُّوا الَّذِيۡنَ يَدۡعُوۡنَ مِنۡ دُوۡنِ اللّٰهِ فَيَسُبُّوا اللّٰهَ عَدۡوًاۢ بِغَيۡرِ عِلۡمٍ ‌ؕ كَذٰلِكَ زَيَّنَّا لِكُلِّ اُمَّةٍ عَمَلَهُمۡ  ثُمَّ اِلٰى رَبِّهِمۡ مَّرۡجِعُهُمۡ فَيُنَبِّئُهُمۡ بِمَا كَانُوۡا يَعۡمَلُوۡنَ

 

Wa-laa-ta-soob-bool-la-zee-na-yud-oo-na-min-do-nil-laa-hay                                                  Fa-ya-soob-bool-laa-ha-aa-doo-wun-bay-ghai-ray-il-min                                                        Ka-zaa-lay-ka-zuy-yun-naa-lay-kool-lay-oom-ma-tin-aa-ma-la-hoom                                Thoom-ma-elaa-rub-bay-him-mur-jay-o-hoom                                                                          Fa-yo-nub-bay-o-hoom-bay-maa-kaa-noo-yau-ma-loo-n

 

And do not scorn those who call upon things other than Allah                                  Lest they then scorn Allah in enmity without knowledge.                                        This is how We have beautified for all people their work.                                          Then their return is to their Lord Provident                                                                    Then He will inform them of what they were practicing.

  • يَسُبُّوا — Ya-soob-boo(la) — They scorn (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Abuses. See تَسُبُّوا  above. A/t/a, ‘they abuse,’ ‘they .. abuse,’ ‘They …  revile,’ ‘they should revile,’ ‘they should … revile,’ ‘they will insult’ and they insult’)
  • ٱللَّهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • عَدُوًّا — Aa-doo-won — In enmity (= Adv., With animosity, enmity, grudge or hostility. A/t/a, ‘out of spite,’ ‘exceeding the limits,’ ‘wrongfully,’ ‘in … revenge,’ ‘spitefully’ and transgressingly’)    

             The text in the next couple of words is repeated in 006;109 and 006:120                  

  • بِغَيۡرِ — Bay-ghai-ray — Without (= Separately the word  بِ  means with and غَيۡرِ means out of, other or else. The combination means without. A/t/a, ‘through’ and ‘lack of’)
  • عِلۡمٍ — Il-min — Knowledge (= n., Awareness; experience; expertise; familiarity with  facts; intellect; intelligence know-how; power of mind; solid information accumulated based upon wisdom; intelligence, perfect knowledge, total awareness and appropriate instruction. A/t/a, in ‘ignorance’ and as ‘ignorant’)
  • كَ — Ka — Like (= Identical; resembling; similar to the one stated earlier. Take the example or similitude of. A/t/a, ‘just as’)
  • ذٰلِكَ — Zaa-lay-ka — This is (= Here; refers to an aforesaid fact, person or statement. A/t/a, ‘Thus’)
  • زَيَّ — Zuy-yun — Beautified (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Made or turned to appear fair  seeming, attractive, beautiful, captivating, charming,  covetous, decorative, desirable, enchanting, enticing, look good, lucrative, luring, nice or tempting. A/t/a, ‘made alluring,’ ‘made fair-seeming,’ ‘have … caused to seem fair,’ ‘made … seem fair,’ ‘made their deeds fair-seeming to them so have We made to each people fair-seeming what they do’ and ‘have planned’)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our; Us. Used with God’s name this plural is the authoritative way a higher-up talks)
  • لِ — Lay — For (= For the object, person, purpose or reason of; intended for; meant for; on account of; concerning; regarding; relative to A/t/a, ‘unto’)
  • كُلِّ — Kool-lay — Every (= n., All; altogether; everyone; everything without any  exception; in every manner; total; very much; whole. A/t/a, ‘each’)
  • اُمَّةٍ —  Oom-ma-tin — People (= Community; group; large body; nation.  A/t/a, ‘all men’)
  • عَمَلَ — Aa-ma-la — Work (= n., s., Act; action; deed, doing; effort; hard work;  performance, practice, rendition; work. A/t/a, ‘doing’ and ‘conduct.’ Some authors have translated this singular word into a plural as ‘doings,’ ‘deeds’ and ‘actions’)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs. A/t/a, ‘own’)
  • ثُمَّ — Thoom-ma — Then (= After that; further more; subsequently; thereafter. A/t/a, ‘Then’ and ‘In the end’ )
  • اِلَى — Elaa — To (= In the direction of; to; towards. A/t/a, ‘unto’)
  • رَبِّ — Rub-bay — Lord Provident (= The Almighty Allah who fills all needs of all His creatures. Cherisher. Creator. Guardian. Lord Provident. Master. The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • مَّرۡجِعُ — Mur-jay-o — Return (= n., Come back; reversal. A/t/a, ‘will they Return,’ ‘shall they return’ and ‘shall return’)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= After all this; at the end; consequently; finally; hence; in conclusion; so; thereafter; therefore; thus)
  • يُنَبِّئُ — Yo-nub-bay-o — He will tell (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Bring to notice; inform; make aware; spell out; tell. A/t/a, ‘He will inform,’ ‘He will declare to’ and ‘He shall … inform.’ But author A Yusuf Ali used 1st person in translating this word as ‘We shall … Tell … the truth’ although the Holy Qor-aan described this act of Almighty God with a word in the 3rd person)

  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with. A/t/a, ‘Of’)

  • كَانُوۡۤا — Kaa-noo — They were (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; used to; went on; were doing. Words has or had always been indicate endless continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. A/t/a, ‘they used to’ and ‘they have’)
  • يَعۡمَلُون — Yau-ma-loon — They practicing (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. This word includes doing the same thing again and again continually. Also, act, do, execute, exercise, implement, operate, perform or work. See Note 002:075b.  A/t/a, ‘do,’ ‘doing’ and ‘they were doing,’ But ‘they did’ and ‘done’ in the past tense is not a good translation of the text of the Holy Qor-aan stated in the present tense)

وَلَوۡ شَآءَ اللّٰهُ مَاۤ اَشۡرَكُوۡا ‌ؕ وَمَا جَعَلۡنٰكَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ حَفِيۡظًا‌  ۚ وَمَاۤ اَنۡتَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ بِوَكِيۡلٍ

 

Wa-lao-shaa-ul-laa-ho-maa-ush-ra-koo                                                                                      Wa-maa-ja-ul-naa-ka-alai-him-ha-fe-zaa                                                                                      Wa-maa-un-ta-alai-him-bay-va-kee-l

 

And they would not have set up equals if Allah chose.                                                  And we have not made you a protector over them.                                                        And you are not with the Watch over them .

Worshiped deities or anyone other than Him Alone. See Note 003:187 and Note 004:037. A/t/a, ‘They would … have taken False gods,’ ‘they would … have associated partners with Him,’ ‘set up others (with Him),’ ‘they had … been idolaters,’ ‘they would … have set up partners with Him,’ ‘they would … have taken others besides Him in worship,’ ‘they would … have been polytheists’ and ‘worshipped idols’)

  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — Over (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; on top of; over. A/t/a, ‘for’)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they. A/t/a, ‘their’)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word  بِ  means with)
  • وَّكِيۡلٌ — Va-kee-l — Watch (= n., Controller; guardian; in-charge; responsible; watch. It is inappropriate to translate this attribute of God Almighty as a representative, speaker on other’s behalf or trustee. A/t/a, ‘guardian,’ ‘in-charge,’ ‘responsible,’ ‘to dispose of  their affairs,’ ‘disposer of their affairs,’ ‘disposer of affairs, guardian or trustee’ and  ‘trustee’)

اِتَّبِعۡ مَاۤ اُوۡحِىَ اِلَيۡكَ مِنۡ رَّبِّكَ‌‌ۚ  لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَ ‌ۚ  وَاَعۡرِضۡ عَنِ الۡمُشۡرِكِيۡنَ‏

 

It-ta-bae-maa-oo-hay-ya-elai-ka-min-rub-bay-ka                                                                        Laa-elaa-ha-il-laa-hoo-wa-au-ridz-aa-nil-moosh-ray-kee-n

           

Follow what is revealed to you from you Lord Provident.                                            There is no God except Him Alone and turn away from the idolaters.

 

  • اِتَّبِعۡ — It-ta-bae — Follow (= v., pres., 2nd person., Carry out; confirm; obey; observe; submit)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — All that (= What; whatever; whatsoever; at such time; when. A/t/a, ‘that which’)

This word is for a good thing being directed, disclosed, dispatched, given, inspired, intensified, kindled, revealed, roused or stirred up. A/t/a, ‘has been revealed.’ But ‘thou art taught By inspiration,’ ‘is revealed’ and ‘is inspired’ in the present tense are not the translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has described in the past tense)
  • اِلَيۡ — E-lai — To (= In the direction of; to; towards)
