Paradise Blessings – Really or just Spiritually

Paradise Blessings — Really or just Spiritually

The word   ا   ز و ا ج   is the plural of  ز و ج  that means a spouse (see the Commentary titled as the Prayers for Spouses), associate , associate, companion, friend, relation, comrade, colleague, any real and dear mate. The relation between such persons can be on the individual, social, professional, national, international, political or any other level.

The word  جَنّٰتُ  as described in the Holy Qor-aan is the Paradise which is wider than the heavens and the earth. [003:134]

The concepts covered in the Holy Qor-aan are enormously bigger, wider and larger than the limits that the human beings have set around them.

The Almighty God has explained in great details the promises which He has made to the beneficiaries who will be honored with the admission to the Paradise.

  • The Paradise will stay evergreen with the under-currents of water and the Believers who will go there will live there forever. [002:026, 003:016, 088:013, 098:009]
  • These Believers will enjoy plenteous fruits of all old and new kinds. [002:026, 043:074]
  • These Righteous will find their mates who have been thoroughly cleansed and have no (age, character, disease or) blemish of any kind. [002:026, 003:016]
  • These Righteous upon reaching will have pleasure of Allah and get things much better than heaps of gold and silver and horses and harvests. [003:015, 003:016]
  • Those destined for the Paradise will be prepared well in advance in this life and purged from all kinds of health, healing, forgiveness, legacy and other issues connected with the human shortcomings in forefathers. [026:078 to 026:094]
  • These Obedient folks will not have anything to fear or grieve [041:031, 043:069] while others could be facing the consequences of their actions in this life [026:092 to 026:103, 089:018 to 089:021].
  • These Steadfast folks will have angels ensuring to get them all they wish and all they ask. [041::032, 043:072]
  • The Almighty God will tell such Obedient fortunate to enter the Paradise to be served in trays and cups of gold and get what they like and what their eyes delight [043:072].
  • Such lucky people will have happy faces, will be well-pleased with the efforts they had made earlier, and will be in lofty levels of the Paradise with running springs, high thrones, arranged goblets, beautiful cushion and spread out carpets [088:009 to 088:017]
  • Such a Contented Soul will be welcome by God Almighty for being pleased with it as it would be pleased with Him [089:028, 089:029, 098:009]. The reward is to join other good folks [089:030], to enter the Paradise [089:031, 098:009] since the believers are the Best of the Creation [098:008] for they feared and Avoided Angering Allah. [098:009]

The Almighty God elaborately counted all above of His blessings. But the Clergy has brushed all that reality with just a word that all these blessings are only in a spiritual sense.

We at this site disagree with the Clergy. We maintain that the Almighty Allah Who has so carefully counted each blessing is capable of giving them in reality and not just spiritually.

Prayers for Spouses

Prayers for Spouses                                                                  for each other or the better-half who has passed away first

Every verse of the Holy Qor-aan is an ocean of blessings. Portions of the Holy Qor-aan containing the following verses are easy to combine as personal prayers for a daily routine. One value in combining them is that one can string these priceless jewels in a necklace and wear.

These verses enumerate the rewards that the Almighty God promises the people specified as the believers, the righteous, the steadfast and the obedient. The guaranteed rewards are the Paradise or peace of mind for one’s soul, self or spouse. The benefits are far too many to count.

The grant of  اَزۡوَاجٌ مُّطَهَّرَةٌ  (uz-waa-joon-mo-tah-ha-ra-toon) stated in 002:026, 003:016 and 004:058 is one benefit mentioned frequently. The first word translated in English can be spouse, associate, friend, and even every near and dear one. The second word translated in English can be chaste, thoroughly cleansed, pious and so on.

The verse 002:026 is a good news for the believers and the doers of righteous deeds that they will get (a) the Paradise with running streams that produce plenteous fruits, (b) the pleasant company of cleansed chaste companions and (c) the perpetual life and existence.

The verses 003:015 to 003:016 list worldly temptations that lure all human beings and then contrast them with the award to the righteous individuals, i.e., the perpetual benefits of (a) the Paradise, (b) the pleasant company of cleansed companions and (c) the pleasure of Allah.

The verse 004:058 is the promise of Almighty Allah to the believers engaged in righteous conduct that He will admit them to the Paradise with running streams to live forever and find pious spouses. In different words this verse essentially repeats what is promised in 002:026.

The verses 026:078 to 026:094 are the prayers by Abraham, peace on him. He counted the Creator’s blessings like healing, hereafter and forgiveness. He then beseeched for control, his legacy, his parents and the righteous. My father used to recite these verses in the nightly prayers.

The verses 041:031 to 041:033 promise the steadfast no fear, no grief, but the Paradise. The angels as friends of the steadfast for life and in the Hereafter are to get them whatever they wish and whatever they pray for as a special gift from the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.

The verses 043:069 to 043:074 are God Almighty’s direct words to the obedient servants telling them not to fear or grieve the Day that others dread to face for their actions in life. Instead they are to enter the Paradise with their spouses and get what they want and what their eyes love.

The verses 088:009 to 088:017 describe how certain pious faces will enjoy the Paradise and other awards which most human beings like, want, wish and crave for in this materialistic life on earth. They are also told of others who will face the consequences for wrongs they did.

The verses 089:028 to 089:031 are the words by which the Almighty God would Himself welcome the return of the fully contented soul to Him. Such soul will be welcome to the eternal life, the company of other blessed people, and the Paradise that God has prepared for them.

The verses 098:008 to 098:009 declare the Believers and the doers of righteous deeds as the Best of All Creation. They are promised (a) the Paradise with under-running streets, (b) the perpetual life and (c) the pleasure of Allah for they had avoided angering Allah.

These personal prayers benefit when a spouse is living. They are tremendous in situations like when my wife for fifty-one-and-one-half years passed away due to cancer. Offer them for any individual you can imagine such as the parents, siblings, children or anyone else.

The Creator clearly counted the common denominator of these verses. The Paradise. The pleasant companions. The perpetual life.

Unfortunately the clergy has narrowed these blessings to mean only spiritually. We refuse to limit the limitless phenomenon of God Almighty’s blessings to our human perceptions — as shown in Commentary titled as the ‘Paradise Blessings — Really or just Spiritually.’

These portions are easy to memorize and use as personal prayers. One can retain, repeat and recite them in the five daily prayers. One can supplicate with them whenever remembering Allah while standing, sitting or lying down on one’s sides 003:192. Their benefits are unending.

** Note 003:162. The dictionary meanings of the Arabic word يَّغۡلُلۡ  are he defrauds, exaggerates, inappropriately stretches, improperly increases, overstates or unjustifiably magnifies ‘ Its root ل  ل    غ  carries above meanings in all its derivative words.

The verb غَلَّ  in the past tense single.3rd person format means ‘he defrauded.’

The verb يَّغۡلُلۡ   in the present tense single.3rd person format means ‘he defrauds.’

The verb   يَّغُلَّ   in another present tense single.3rd person format indicates a custom, habit or practice of ‘defrauding.’

That is why this site has translated the above three words in this verse in their dictionary equivalents and not as in the following translations some of which are also incorrect being in the past tense or present tense although the original text in the Holy Qor-aan is in the opposite tense.

  1. ‘Act dishonestly,’ and ‘acted dishonestly’ – Maulawi Sher Ali, Malik Ghulam Freed, Maulana Muhammad Ali and Muhammad Zafrulla Khan
  2. ‘Could (ever) be false to his trust,’ ‘is so false,’ and ‘what he misappropriated’ – A Yusuf Ali
  3. ‘Commit a breach of trust,’ ‘breaks his trust,’ and ‘which he had misappropriated’ – Dr Ahmad Zidan
  4. ‘Deceive (mankind),’ and translated this verb like it was a noun saying ‘his deceit’ – M Marmaduke Pickthall
  5. ‘Guilty of a breach of trust’ – Allamah Nooruddin, A Mannan Omar
  6. ‘Rob his followers,’ ‘steals,’ and ‘stolen’ – N J Dawood
  7. ‘Take illegally a part of the booty,’ ‘deceives his companions as regards the booty,’ and ‘that which he took illegally’ – Muhammad Muhsin Khan and Taqi-ud-Din Al-Hilali

The English word defraud is used in translating other Arabic words that relate to ordinary folks. But the much loftier stature of a prophet mentioned in this verse is also the reason why the sever word defraud is used for a prophet.

  • The same author has translated the same words in the verse 011: 086 as “Defraud not people of their things’ but those in the verse 026:184 as ‘Diminish not unto people their things.”
  • “Fall not short of the measure” – 055:010.
  • “Woe to the cheaters; who, when measuring against the people, take in full; But when giving measure or weigh for them, they diminish” – 083:002 to 004.

** Note 003:158. The words  قُتِلۡتُمۡ فِىۡ سَبِيۡلِ اللّٰهِ اَوۡ مُتُّمۡ  have been translated in several ways. Their accurate, most logical, simple and straightforward translation is as given above. The same words in the next verse 003:159 further substantiate such translation.

The phrase فِىۡ سَبِيۡلِ اللّٰهِ [= in the cause of Allah]  covers both verbs قُتِلۡتُمۡ  and  مُتُّم . The first verb includes the process of attacking; battling, fighting or even engaging in persecution when the process does not culminate in an actual loss of life. The second verb clearly shows death.

The next verse has also both these verbs but in a reverse order. The first verb reflects the loss of life or being a martyr. The second verb indicates that the reward of being with Allah is not lost even if the devout has not lost life.

** Note 003:157. The words derived from a root in the Arabic language are in several categories. Fourteen (14) derivates are verbs in the present tense. Another twenty-eight (28) are verbs in the future tense by adding the pre-fixes of س or سوف. Many dozens of words are formed as adverbs, adjectives, and nouns in different forms called the Ubwab.( ابواب ). Following is an example of the derivates from the root ض ر ب as verbs in the past tense

Person   !         Gender            !   Singular       !    2-Plural      !   Plural (3 or more)

—————————————————————————————————

Third     !         Masculine        !      ضَرَ بَ        !           ضَرَبَا       !         ضَرَبُوۡا

—————————————————————————————————

Third     !          Feminine         !      ضَرَبَتۡ        !           ضَرَبَتا    !           ضَرَبۡنَ

—————————————————————————————————

Second  !         Masculine        !      ضَرَبۡتَ        !           ضَرَبۡتُما  !           ضَرَبۡتُمۡ

————————————————————————————————-

Second    !         Feminine         !        ضَرَبۡتِ      !           ضَرَبۡتُما  !           ضَرَبۡتُّنَ

—————————————————————————————————

First        !        Mas + Fem      !     ضَرَبۡتُ         !           ضَرَبۡنَآ    !           ضَرَبۡنَآ

—————————————————————————————————

The meanings of all derivates from the root ض ر ب include beating, fighting, hitting and striking. But in colloquial expressions a different concept is developed when joined with another word. For example, the past tense derivate ضَر بَ (pronounced as dza-ra-ba that means struck) if used  as in verse 003:157 with the phrase  فِى الۡاَرۡضِ (pronounced as fil-ur-dzay that means in the earth, land or world) would literally mean that he struck (or put his foot out from home) into the world but as a colloquial expression it means he went on a journey or travelled in the world.
