مَرَجَ الۡبَحۡرَيۡنِ يَلۡتَقِيٰنِ ۙ‏ ○  بَيۡنَهُمَا بَرۡزَخٌ لَّا يَبۡغِيٰنِ ۚ ○  فَبِاَىِّ اٰلَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبٰن○  يَخۡرُجُ مِنۡهُمَا اللُّـؤۡلُـؤُ وَالۡمَرۡجَانُ ۚ‏ ○ فَبِاَىِّ اٰلَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبٰن○  وَلَهُ الۡجَوَارِ الۡمُنۡشَئٰتُ فِى الۡبَحۡرِ كَالۡاَعۡلَام ۚ‏ ○  فَبِاَىِّ اٰلَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبٰن  ○ فَ         

 

  1. Ma-ra-jul-bah-rai-nay-yul-ta-qay-yaa-n
  2. Bai-na-ho-maa-bur-za-khoon-laa-yub-ghay-yaa-n
  3. Fa-bay-auy-yay-aa-laa-aiy-rub-bay-ko-maa-to-kuz-zay-baa-n
  4. Yukh-ro-jo-min-ho-mul-loe-lo-ool-mur-jaan
  5. Fa-bay-auy-yay-aa-laa-aiy-rub-bay-ko-maa-to-kuz-zay-baa-n
  6. Wa-hool-ja-waa-ril-moon-shay-aa-to-fil-bah-ray-kul-au-laa-m
  7. Fa-bay-auy-yay-aa-laa-aiy-rub-bay-ko-maa-to-kuz-zay-baa-n

 

  1. He made up two oceans that will meet
  2. Between those two is a barrier that they cannot go over
  3. So with which blessings of God of you two can you both deny
  4. Come out from them both the pearl and the coral
  5. So with which blessings of God of you two can you both deny
  6. And for Him are the ships spreading out in the ocean like tall mountains
  7. So with which blessings of God of you two can you both deny

The Holy Qor-aan       055:020

مَرَجَ الۡبَحۡرَيۡنِ يَلۡتَقِيٰنِۙ

Ma-ra-jul-bah-rai-nay-yul-ta-qay-yaan

He made up two oceans that will meet

  •   مَرَجَ — Ma-ra-ja..(ul) — He made up (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Carved up, created, finished, organized, made, prepared, set up or structured from a prior state of chaos, clutter, confusion, disorder, jumbled up situation or nothingness. A/t/a, ‘let free,’  ‘has put … in motion,’ ‘let … flow freely,’ ‘to flow freely,’ ‘let loose,’ ‘loosed’ and ‘he has made … flow’)
  • الۡبَحۡرَيۡنِ — Bah-rai-nay — Two oceans (= n., Seas. A/t/a, ‘bodies of flowing water,’ ‘the two seas (the salt and fresh water),’ ‘two bodies of water,’ ‘the two bodies,’ ‘two oceans’ and ‘two seas’)
  • يَلۡتَقِيٰنِ — Yul-ta-qay-yaan — They meet (= v., pres., 2pl., 3rd person. Are going to become one, join, meet or merge. A/t/a, ‘They will one day meet,’ ‘they will meet,’ ‘meeting together,’ ‘they meet together,’ They meet,’ ‘they meet one another’ and ‘they will (one day) join together’)

The Holy Qor-aan       055:021

  بَيۡنَهُمَا بَرۡزَخٌ لَّا يَبۡغِيٰنِ‌ۚ‏

Bai-na-ho-maa-bur-za-khoon-laa-yub-ghay-yaan

Between those two is a barrier that they cannot go over

  • بَيۡنَ — Bai-na — Between (= Betwixt; among; flanked by; in between.)
  • هُمَا — Ho-maa — Those two (= pro., 2pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to aforesaid two oceans
  • بَرۡزَخٌ  Bur-za-khoon — Barrier (= n., Big block or patch of land; blockage; boundary; stoppage. A/t/a, ‘is now a barrier,’ ‘there is at present a barrier,’ ‘Just now there is a barrier,’ ‘(At present) a barrier stands’ and ‘stands a barrier’)
  • لَا — Laa — Cannot (= Naught; neither; never; no; none; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception)
  • يَبۡغِيٰنِ‌ — Yub-ghay-yaan — Go over (= v., pres., 2pl., 3rd person. Go or cross over; violate. A/t/a, ‘transgress,’ ‘encroach not one upon the other,‘ ‘encroach not (one upon the other,’ ‘They cannot encroach one upon the other,’ ‘overrun’ and ‘they cannot pass’)

The Holy Qor-aan       055:022

○ فَبِاَىِّ اٰلَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبٰنِ‏

Fa-bay-auy-yay-aa-laa-aiy-rub-bay-ko-maa-to-kuz-zay-baa-n

So with which blessings of God of you two can you both deny

  • فَ — Fa — So (= Hence; then; thus; at the end; in conclusion; in the final analysis; consequently; finally; resultantly; therefore)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word  بِ  means ‘with’)
  • اَىِّ — Auy-yay — Which (= What. A/t/a, ‘Which is it’)
  • اٰلَاۤءِ — Aa-laa-aiy — Blessings (= n., pl., Donations; gifts; grants; favors; freebees; handouts. A/t/a, ‘bounties,’ ‘benefactions’ and ‘favours’)
  • رَبِّ — Rub-bay — God (= The Almighty Allah who fills needs of all creatures; Cherisher; Creator; Guardian; Master; Lord Provident. The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. The Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we  and all other creatures need to live and subsist)
  • كُمَا — Ko-maa — You two ** (= pro., 2pl., m., 2nd person. You both or twain. You two  bands, bunches, cliques, cults or groups.. Reference is to the bodies of men and jinn. A/t/a, ‘your’ [several authors], ‘you twain (jinn and men)’ and ‘you twain (believers and disbelievers).’ See Note 055:014)
  • تُكَذِّبٰنِ — To-kuz-zay-baa-n — You both can deny (= v., 2pl., 2nd person. Belie; contradict; decline; disagree; disapprove; discredit; disprove; rebuff; refuse; turn down. A/t/a, ‘will ye deny,’ ‘will you deny,’ ‘ye twain, O men and jinn, deny,’ ‘will you twain deny, O men and Jinn,’ ‘will you both (jinn and men) deny,’ ‘would you deny’ and ‘that ye deny’)

يَخۡرُجُ مِنۡهُمَا اللُّـؤۡلُـؤُ وَالۡمَرۡجَانُ‌

Yukh-ro-jo-min-ho-mul-loe-loo-o-wul-mur-jaa-n

Come out from them both the pearl and the coral

And for Him are the ships spreading out in the ocean like tall mountains

خَلَقَ الۡاِنۡسَانَ مِنۡ صَلۡصَالٍ كَالۡفَخَّارِ ۙ ○  وَخَلَقَ الۡجَآنَّ مِنۡ مَّارِجٍ مِّنۡ نَّار ۚ ○  فَبِاَىِّ اٰلَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبٰنِ‏  ○ رَبُّ الۡمَشۡرِقَيۡنِ وَ رَبُّ الۡمَغۡرِبَيۡنِ‌  ○ ۚ   فَبِاَىِّ اٰلَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبٰن○ ‏

 

  1. Kha-la-qul-in-saa-na-min-sul-saa-lin-kul-fukh-khaa-r
  2. Wa-kha-la-qul-jaan-na-min-maa-ray-jim-min-naa-r
  3. Fa-bay-auy-yay-aa-laa-aiy-rub-bay-ko-maa-to-kuz-zay-baa-n
  4. Rub-bool-mush-ray-qai-nay-wa-rub-bool-mugh-ray-bain
  5. Fa-bay-auy-yay-aa-laa-aiy-rub-bay-ko-maa-to-kuz-zay-baa-n

 

  1. He created man from clay like rattling pieces of broken pottery
  2. And He created the Jinn from red-hot coal of fire
  3. So with which blessings of God of you two can you both deny
  4. The Lord God of the two Orients and two Occident’s
  5. So with which blessings of God of you two can you both deny

خَلَقَ الۡاِنۡسَانَ مِنۡ صَلۡصَالٍ كَالۡفَخَّارِۙ

Kha-la-qul-in-saa-na-min-sul-saa-lin-kul-fukh-khaa-r

He created man from clay like rattling pieces of broken pottery

  • خَلَقَ — Kha-la-qa … (ul) —  He created (= v., past., m., s., 3rd person. Brought into being; created; formed; originated; produced; shaped. Made from scratch to give forms and faces in due proportions. See 003:060)
  • الۡاِنۡسَانَ  — In-saa-na — Man (= n., Mankind; the species known as man including his  feminine gender woman. As a derivative from the root   ا  ن   س   that means love, the word  الۡاِنۡسَانَ   means one who has two loves, i.e., for his Creator and his fellow creatures. A human being. A/t/a, ‘man (Adam))
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘of’)

The Lord God of the two Orients and two Occident’s

○    ‏ وَالۡاَرۡضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلۡاَنَامِۙ‏  ○  فِيۡهَا فَاكِهَةٌ ۙ وَّالنَّخۡلُ ذَاتُ الۡاَكۡمَامِ‌ۖ‏  ○‏ ‏ وَالۡحَبُّ ذُو الۡعَصۡفِ وَالرَّيۡحَانُ‌ ○   فَبِاَىِّ اٰلَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبٰنِ‏     

 

  1. Wul-ur-dza-wa-wa-dza-aa-haa-lil-anaa-m
  2. Fee-haa-faa-kay-ha-toon-wun-nukh-lo-zaa-tool-uk-maa-m
  3. Wul-hub-bo-zool-us-fay-wur-rai-haa-n
  4. Fa-bay-auy-yay-aa-laa-aiy-rub-bay-ko-maa-to-kuz-zay-baa-n

 

  1. And the earth He set it for the creatures
  2. In it is fruit and dates with sheathed
  3. And the seed with husk and fragrance
  4. So with which blessings of God of you two can you both deny

In it is fruit and date-palms with sheaths

وَالۡحَبُّ ذُو الۡعَصۡفِ وَالرَّيۡحَانُ‌ۚ‏ 

Wul-hub-bo-zoo-us-fay-wur-rai-haa-n

And the grain with husk and fragrance

○ فَبِاَىِّ اٰلَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبٰنِ‏

Fa-bay-auy-yay-aa-laa-aiy-rub-bay-ko-maa-to-kuz-zay-baa-n

So with which blessings of God of you two can you both deny

  • كُمَا — Ko-maa — You two ** (= pro., 2pl., m., 2nd person. You both or twain. You two  bands, bunches, cliques, cults or groups.. Reference is to the bodies of men and jinn. A/t/a, ‘your’ [several authors], ‘you twain (jinn and men)’ and ‘you twain (believers and disbelievers)’)
  • تُكَذِّبٰنِ — To-kuz-zay-baa-n — You both can deny (= v., 2pl., 2nd person. Belie; contradict; decline; disagree; disapprove; discredit; disprove; rebuff; refuse; turn down. وَّالنَّجۡمُ وَالشَّجَرُ يَسۡجُدٰنِ‏ ○  وَالسَّمَآءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ الۡمِيۡزَانَۙ‏ ‏ ○  اَلَّا تَطۡغَوۡا فِى الۡمِيۡزَانِ ○   وَاَقِيۡمُوا الۡوَزۡنَ بِالۡقِسۡطِ وَلَا تُخۡسِرُوا الۡمِيۡزَانَ    

 

  1. Wun-nuj-mo-wush-sha-ja-ro-yus-jo-daa-n
  2. Wus-sa-maa-aa-ra-fa-haa-wa-wa-dza-ul-me-zaa-n

  • الشَّجَرُ — Sha-ja-ro — The trees (= n., Any foliage, plant or vegetation with roots, a trunk, branches and leaves. Refers to those individuals who are firmly grounded in one place and stationary unlike stars and yet a day will come when they too would fall as if in prostration)
  • يَسۡجُدٰ نِ  — Yus-jo-daa-nay — Prostrate (= v., pres., 2 pl., 3rd person. Action in worship wherein two persons prostrates with both their heads down and forehead on the ground expressing humility, obedience and reverence. Adore. Bow down, kneel and put head on floor in prayer and submission. A/t/a, ‘Both (alike) bow in adoration,’ ‘humbly submit to His will,’ ‘humbly submit (to His will),’ ‘submit to Him,’ ‘both prostrate themselves to Allah’ and ‘prostrate’)

اَلَّا تَطۡغَوۡا فِى الۡمِيۡزَانِ

Ul-laa-tut-ghao-fil-me-zaa-n

 That you do not upset the Balance

  • اَلَّا — Ul-laa — That + not (= Can’t, don’t or won’t. Not; fail to; refuse to; will not. Also, so that.  This one word is a combination of two words.  The 1st word is  اَنۡ  (un) and means that. The 2nd word is  لَا  (laa) and means never, no or not at all. Combined together they mean ‘so that’ or ‘this result is due to the reason that.’ A/t/a, ‘In order that’ and ‘that… might not’)
  • تَطۡغَوۡا — Tut-ghao — You cross over (= v., pres., m., pl., 2nd person. Commit excess; transgress; upset; violate. A/t/a, ‘may not transgress,’ ‘exceed’ and ‘(He explains this to you) that you should not violate’)

Verses of the Holy Qor-aan are quoted on this site with the numbers, the first set of three being the number of Soorah (Chapter) followed by the last set of three being the number of the verse. The numbers include بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ‏‏ as the verse #1 in every Soorah except the Soorah #9. The original Arabic word is shown first, or in Col #1. With the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful I begin

The sun and the Moon with the duty to guard

  • اَلشَّمۡسُ — Ush-shum-so — The sun (= n., The bright astronomical object or star located at the center of our solar system around which the Earth and other planets orbit and from which they receive their light and heat. The unending source of light, heat and energy necessary for life and vegetation on earth.  Spiritually, the individuals entrusted with an inner light to illuminate the lives of other humans not so gifted)
  • وَ — Wa…(ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • الۡقَمَرُ — Ul-Qa-ma-ro — The moon (= n., Physically an astronomical body that orbits the Earth. Spiritually, a person entrusted with accurately reflecting the brightness of another who has gone and is like the moon that reflects the sun after sunset to reduce total darkness of night)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word  بِ  means with)
  • حُسۡبَا نٍ — Hoos-baa-nin — Duty to guard (= n., Lookout; picket; protector; sentinel; sentry; watch. Also, defense, fortification, safeguard or shield.  يٰۤـاَيُّهَا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡۤا اَطِيۡـعُوا اللّٰهَ وَاَطِيۡـعُوا الرَّسُوۡلَ وَاُولِى الۡاَمۡرِ مِنۡكُمۡ‌ۚ فَاِنۡ تَنَازَعۡتُمۡ فِىۡ شَىۡءٍ فَرُدُّوۡهُ اِلَى اللّٰهِ وَالرَّسُوۡلِ اِنۡ كُنۡـتُمۡ تُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ بِاللّٰهِ وَالۡيَـوۡمِ الۡاٰخِرِ‌ ؕ ذٰ لِكَ خَيۡرٌ وَّاَحۡسَنُ تَاۡوِيۡلًا  

 

Yaa  auy-ha  ul-la-ze na  aa-ma-noo                                                                                                 Aa-tee-oo  ol-laa-ha  wa  aa-tee-oor  ra-soo-la                                                                                Wa  o-lay  il-aum-ray  min  koom                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Fa  in  ta-naa-zau  toom  fee  shai-in                                                                                                Fa  rood-doo  ho  aiy-la  ul-laa-hay  wa  ur-ra-soo-lay                                                                  In  koon-toom  toe-may-noo-na                                                                                                            Bay  il-laa-hay  wa  ul-yao-may  il-aa-khay-ray                                                                            Zaa-lay-ka  khai-roon  wa  auh-sa-no  tau-vee-laa

 

Listen, you all who have believed!                                                                                        You all obey Allah and you all obey the Messenger                                                          And the among you with the authority to Order. 

Then if you have a dispute in any matter,                                                                          Then turn it over to Allah and the Messenger                                                                  If (since the past) you have been believing                                                                        In Allah and the Coming Day                                                                                                    This is excellent and best in explanation.

 

The Holy Qor-aan has used the Phrase Yaa-auy-yo-hul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo many times

  • يٰۤ — Yaa — Listen (= Be attentive; hearken; pay attention; O!)
  • اَيُّهَا — Auy-yo-ha … (ul) — You all (= All addressees; entire audience; whole lot of listeners)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Aul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Those articles, things or persons
  • اٰمَنُوۡۤ — Aa-ma-noo — They Believed (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Believed in the Holy Qor-aan; became Moslems. Accepted, acknowledged, admitted or witnessed their entry in Iss-laam. The Holy Qor-aan has often used the Phrase Aa-tee-ool-laa-ha-wa-aa-tee-oor-ra-soo-la

  • اَطِيۡعُوا — Aa-tee-oo … (l) — You all obey (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Carry out directions; follow. Relative to Allah, the word implies implementing His Commandments and Prohibitions. See Commentary The Obedience)
  • ٱللَّهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; instead; more over; rather; though; when; yet; whereupon; while)
  • اَطِيۡعُوا — Aa-tee-oo … (r) — You all obey (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Carry out directions; follow. Relative to man, the word means to copy, duplicate, emulate and match the deeds as well as to follow the directions of someone. See اَطِيۡعُوا above)
  • الرَّسُوۡلَ — Ra-soo-la — The Messenger (= n., s., Apostle; prophet; sage; saint. The ال before the word  رَّسُوۡلَ  particularizes it to invariably mean the Holy Prophet Mohammad, pace and blessings on him)

  اِنَّ اللّٰهَ يَاۡمُرُكُمۡ اَنۡ تُؤَدُّوا الۡاَمٰنٰتِ اِلٰٓى اَهۡلِهَا ۙ وَاِذَا حَكَمۡتُمۡ بَيۡنَ النَّاسِ اَنۡ تَحۡكُمُوۡا بِالۡعَدۡلِ‌ ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ نِعِمَّا يَعِظُكُمۡ بِهٖ‌ ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ كَانَ سَمِيۡعًۢا بَصِيۡرًا  

 

In-na  ul-laa-ha  yau-mo-ro  koom  un                                                                                          To-waud-do  ol-aa-maa-naa-tay  aiy-laa  ah-lay  haa                                                                  Wa  ezaa  ha-kaum  toom  bai-na  un-naa-say  un  tauh-ko-moo  bay  il-ud-lay                    In-na  ul-laa-ha  nay-im-maa  ya-aiy-zo  koom  bay  he                                                            In-na  nul-laa-ha  kaa-na  sa-me-un  ba-se-raa

 

Allah certainly orders you that                                                                                          You turn over the trusts to those deserving.                                                                  And when you decide among people that you decide with justice.                            Allah is indeed excellent with what He admonishes you.                                            Surely Allah has always been the Hearer, the Seer.

  وَالَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ سَنُدۡخِلُهُمۡ جَنّٰتٍ تَجۡرِىۡ مِنۡ تَحۡتِهَا الۡاَنۡهٰرُ خٰلِدِيۡنَ فِيۡهَاۤ اَبَدًا‌ ؕ لَـهُمۡ فِيۡهَاۤ اَزۡوَاجٌ مُّطَهَّرَةٌ  وَّنُدۡخِلُهُمۡ ظِلًّا ظَلِيۡلًا‏

 

Wul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo-wa-amay-loos-suaa-lay-haa-tay                                                    Sa-nood-khay-lo-hoom                                                                                                                      Jun-naa-tin-tuj-re-min-tah-tay-hul-un-haa-ro                                                                                Khaa-lay-dee-na-fee-haa-aba-daa                                                                                                      La-hoom-fee-haa-uz-waa-joon-mo-tah-ha-ra-toon                                                                        Wa-nood-khay-lo-hoom-zil-lun-za-lee-laa

 

And those who believed and did good deeds                                                                    Soon We will enter them in                                                                                                    Gardens underneath which flow rivers                                                                                Living in it forever                                                                                                                        For them therein will be companions chaste                                                                    And We shall place them in very thick shades

The Holy Qor-aan has used the Phrase Jun-naa-tin-tuj-ree … several times

  • تَجۡرِىۡ — Tuj-ree — Flow (= v., pres, s., f., 3rd person. Running with irrigational water; sailing water. A/t/a, ‘flow,’ ‘served with running’ and ‘watered by running.’ See also 003:137)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= From a class, category, count, kind, persons or out of)
  • تَحۡتِ — Tah-tay — Underneath (= Below; beneath; deep in ground; on lower level; subsoil through; under; undercurrent. A/t/a, ‘therein’ and ‘wherein’ in various translations. See Note 002:026a)
  • هَا — Ha … (ul) — Which (= pro., s., f., 3rd person.. Refers to the  جَنّٰتٍ, the Paradise)
  • الۡاَنۡهٰرُ — Un-haa-ro — Rivers (= n., Abundant bodies, currents, streams or supplies of running water. A/t/a, ‘streams’)

Verses like 003:137004:014004:058064:010 and 098:009 are added with the words خٰلِدِيۡنَ فِيۡهَاۤ (khaa-lay-de-na-fee-haa) that mean living in it.

  • خٰلِدِيۡنَ — Khaa-lay-de-na — Living (= n., pl., Those people who are going to abide, dwell, enjoy, live, remain, reside or stay permanently or perpetually. See Note 002:040.  A/t/a, ‘to dwell,’ ‘to abide,’ ‘abiding’ and ‘they shall abide’ are translations as a verb of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated as a noun)
  • فِىۡ  — Fee — In (= Inside a duration, time, period, place, phenomenon or  thing. Concerning. In reference. Regarding. Relative to. A/t/a, ‘therein’ and ‘wherein’ in various translations.)

** Note 004:057. An author translated exactly the same way two different words as ‘We shall make them enter’ although they cover different situations and mean differently.

The first is  نُصۡلِيۡ   (noos-lee) in this verse 004:057 and means We will burn, cook, roast or cast and throw them. These are the people who did bad things in this life. Their punishment is burning in Hell by way of their treatment. When corrected they will be taken out of there.

The second is  نُدۡخِلۡ  (nood-khay-lo) in the next verse 004:058 and means We will admit, allow or enter them. These are the people who did good things in life. Their coveted prize is the gardens of the Paradise which are irrigated by running water and forever kept fresh and green.

 اِنَّ الَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا بِاٰيٰتِنَا سَوۡفَ نُصۡلِيۡهِمۡ نَارًا ؕ كُلَّمَا نَضِجَتۡ جُلُوۡدُهُمۡ بَدَّلۡنٰهُمۡ جُلُوۡدًا غَيۡرَهَا لِيَذُوۡقُوا الۡعَذَابَ‌ ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ كَانَ عَزِيۡزًا حَكِيۡمًا‏

 

In-nul-la-zee-na-ka-fa-roo-bay-aa-yaa-tay-naa                                                                          Sao-fa-noos-lee-him-naa-raa                                                                                                              Kool-la-maa-na-dzay-jut-jo-oo-do-hoom                                                                                    Bud-dul-naa-hoom-jo-loo-dun-ghai-ra-haa                                                                                   Lay-ya-zoo-qool-aza-ba                                                                                                                      In-nul-laa-ha-kaa-na-azee-zun-ha-kee-maa

 

Certainly those who disbelieved Our signs                                                                  Soon We will burn them in the fire                                                                                        Every time their skins are burnt off                                                                                    We will change them in skin for another of it                                                                    So that they taste the punishment.                                                                                    Certainly Allah has always been the Mightiest, the Wisest

  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Us. Used with God’s name it is the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
  • سَوۡفَ — Sao-fa — Very soon (= This word turns a verb in the present tense to a verb in  the near term or future. In a short while. Very closely, quickly or swiftly. Without too long a wait. Also, definitely; surely. A/t/a, ‘shall’)
  •  نُصۡلِيۡ — Noos-lee — We burn (= v., pres., m/f., pl., 1st person. Cook; roast; scorch.  Also, Chastise; penalize; punish; torment; torture. A/t/a, ‘cast,’ ‘make them enter,’ ’cause … to enter’ and ‘expose’)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to aforesaid people)
  • نَارًا — Naa-raa — The Fire (= n., Allah’s wrath; anger; hell. purgatory; punishment. Rapid sustained reaction or source of releasing the light and heat. A/t/a, Hell-fire’)
  • كُلَّمَا — Kool-la-maa — Every time (= This is a combination of two words. The first word كُلٌّ means ‘all, altogether, each and everyone, entirely, everyone, everything, totally, without exception or wholly’. The second word  مَا  means ‘all that, any time, at such time; when; whenever, what, whatever.’ Joined together كُلَّمَا  means “every single time without any exception, as often as, as soon as; no sooner than. A/t/a,’as often as’ and ‘No sooner than’)
  • نَضِجَتۡ — Na-dzay-jut — Burnt off (= v., past., s., f., 3rd person. Roasted; scorched. A/t/a,  ‘roasted through,’ ‘burned,’ ‘consumed’ and ‘burnt up’ )
  • جُلُوۡدُ — Jo-loo-do — Skins (= n., pl., Refers to the outer layers of a body that cover one’s blood, bones and muscles. Also, casing; coat; covering; crust; fur; hide; membrane; pelt)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to aforesaid people)
  • بَدَّل  — Bud-dul — Change (= v., pres, 1st person. Alter; exchange; give, put or set a thing in place of another; substitute. A/t/a, ‘change,’ ‘give them in exchange,’ ‘give in exchange,’ ‘give’ and ‘replace’)

  • هَا — Haa — It (= pro., s., f., 3rd person., Refers to aforesaid skins)
  • لِ — Lay — For / So that (= For the object, purpose or reason of)
  • يَذُوۡقُوا — Ya-zoo-qoo(l) — Taste (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Come into contact; experience; feel; live through; suffer; undergo. A/t/a, ‘truly taste,’ ‘feel … keenly,’ ‘may continue to taste’ and ‘may (continually) taste (agony of)’
  • الۡعَذَابَ — Azaa-ba — Punishment (= Appropriate, due and fair agony, chastisement, doom, hard task, penalty, recompense; torment, torture or scourge. A/t/a, ‘Our  scourge’)
  • اِنَّ — In-na…(ul) — Certainly (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly. See  اِنَّ  above)
  • ٱللَّهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God
  • كَانَ — Kaa-na — He has been (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; had been; used to; were, went on doing. Indicates the act’s continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. A/t/a, ‘is’)

The combination of following two words is in many verses like 004:057, 004:166 etc

  • عَزِيۡزًا — Azee-zun — Mightiest (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him is The Revered, The Highest, The Most Exalted, Honored and Respected. All-Mighty. Exalted in might and power. Mightiest. This one word includes the meanings of might with respect. A/t/a, ‘Exalted in Power,’ ‘Mighty,’ ‘Ever Most Powerful’ and ‘mighty’)
  • حَكِيۡمًا‏ — Ha-kee-maa — Wisest (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him is Wise, Exalted and Shrewd. The Wisest. A/t/a, Possessor or full of wisdom, ‘Wise,’ ‘wise,’ ‘all wise’ and ‘All-Wise’)

 

** Note 004:057. An author translated exactly the same way two different words as ‘We shall make them enter’ although they cover different situations and mean differently.

The first is  نُصۡلِيۡ   (noos-lee) in this verse 004:057 and means We will burn, cook, roast or cast and throw them.  These are the people who did bad things in this life. Their punishment is burning in Hell by way of their treatment. When corrected they will be taken out of there.

The second is  نُدۡخِلۡ  (nood-khay-lo) in the next verse 004:058 and means We will admit, allow or enter them. These are the people who did good things in life. Their coveted prize is the gardens of the Paradise which are irrigated by running water and forever kept fresh and green.

The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                        004:056

 

  فَمِنۡهُمۡ مَّنۡ اٰمَنَ بِهٖ وَمِنۡهُمۡ مَّنۡ صَدَّ عَنۡهُ‌ ؕ وَكَفٰى بِجَهَـنَّمَ سَعِيۡرًا‏  

 

Fa-min-hoom-mun-aa-ma-na-bay-he                                                                                               Wa-min-hoom-mun-sud-da-un-ho                                                                                                    Wa-ka-faa-bay-ja-hun-na-ma-sa-ee-raa

 

So among them are those who believed in it                                                                  And among them is he who blocked from it                                                                    And sufficient with Hell is their burning big

 

  • فَ  — Fa — So (= Hence; so; thus; after all this; consequently; therefore)
  • مِنۡ — Min — Among (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘some’ and ‘of’)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Those (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to the followers of Abraham mentioned in the previous verse)
  • مَّنۡ — Mun — Who (= Anyone; whoever; whom; whomever; whoso. A/t/a, ‘some who’ and ‘(some) who’)
  • اٰمَنَ — Aa-ma-na — He Believed    (= v., past., s., 3rd person., Believed in the Holy Qor-aan, became Moslems and entered in the Faith of Isslaam — See the explanation in our Commentary Islam – 101. Also, he made peace, protected, rescued, saved or secured himself from sin and against fear.A/t/a, ‘believe’ but that translated the word as a verb in the present tense when the Holy Qor-aan has stated the fact in a verb in the past tense)
  • بِ — Bay — In (= Literally the word بِ  means with. Sometimes English translation is appropriate by using in instead of with)
  • هٖ — He — It (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. It; him. The pronoun can refer to (1) it, the Scripture; (2) it, the grace of the Almighty God stated in the prior verse; (3) ‘it, (the Qur’an),’ (4) ‘he‘ the prophet Abraham, (5) ‘him,’ (5) ‘him (Muhammad s.a.w’ and (6) Him, the Almighty God)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • مِنۡ — Min — Among (= Among, from or out of the class. See   مِنۡ  above)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to aforesaid people)
  • مَّنۡ — Mun — Who (= Anyone; whoever; whom; whomever; whoso. A/t/a, ‘were others who’ and ‘were (some) who’)
  • صَدَّ — Sud-da — Blocked (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Debarred; hindered; hurdled; interrupted; obstructed; prevented; restrained; stopped; turned away. Also, ‘held back,’  ‘hindered others,’ ‘averted or ‘turned away.’  A/t/a, ‘reject’ and ‘turns away’ but they are the translations as a verb in the present tense of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated as a verb in the past tense)
  • عَنۡ — Un — From (= About; concerning; regarding; relative to)
  • هُ –Ho — It (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. See هٖ above)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • كَفٰى — Ka-faa — Sufficient (= Enough. A/t/a, ‘shall suffice,’ ‘sufficient for them  as punishment is’ and ‘their portion’)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with)
  • جَهَـنَّمَ — Ja-hunna-ma — Hell (= Blazing Fire. Purgatory; Gehenna [aro. amo]; hell-fire. Also the hellish life in this world)
  • سَعِيرً۬ا — Sa-ee-raa — Burning big (= n., Means, method, source or way to punish by burning.  As adj., Burning in a fire that is ablaze, big, extreme, fierce, ferocious, severe or with flames. A/t/a, ‘burning fire,’ ‘blazing fire of,’ ‘exceedingly hot,’ ‘scourge is the fire of,’ ‘for burning (them)’ and ‘burning (those who turn away)’
