‌قَالَ مَا مَنَعَكَ اَلَّا تَسۡجُدَ اِذۡ اَمَرۡتُكَ‌ ؕ قَالَ اَنَا خَيـۡرٌ مِّنۡهُ‌ ۚ خَلَقۡتَنِىۡ مِنۡ نَّارٍ وَّخَلَقۡتَهٗ مِنۡ طِيۡنٍ

 

Qaa-la  maa  ma-na-aa  ka  ul-laa  tus-jood  iz  aa-maur-to  ka                                                  Qaa-la  aa-na  khai-roon  min  ho                                                                                                  Kha-luq-ta  nee  min  naa-rin  wa  kha-luq-ta  hoo  min  tee-n

 

He said, “What stopped you that you won’t submit when I ordered you.”            He (Satan) said, “I am better than him (Adam).                                                        You created me from fire, and you created him (man) clay.”

  • قَالَ — Qaa-la — He said (= v., past, s., m, 3rd person. If spoken by God Almighty  this word means that He … announced, charged, commanded, concluded, declared, dictated, directed, finalized, informed, inquired, laid down, instructed, mandated, ordered, specified, stated, told. See 002:031. A/t/a, ‘He said,’ ‘Allah questioned him,’ ‘God said,’ ‘(God) said,’ (Allah) said’ and ‘Allah asked’)
  • مَا — Maa — What (= What; whatever; whatsoever)
  • مَنَعَ — Ma-na-aa — Stopped (= v., past, s., m., 3rd person. Blocked; checked; forbade; hampered; hindered; impeded; limited; obstructed; prevented; prohibited; restrained; restricted; stopped; thwarted. A/t/a, ‘did you not’)
  • كَ — Ka —  You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You. One male. Ref is to Satan. A/t/a, ‘thee’ and ‘you (O Iblis)’ 
  • اَلَّا — Ul-laa — That + not (= Can’t, don’t or won’t. Not; fail to; refuse to; will not. Also, so that.  This one word is a combination of two words.  The 1st word is  اَنۡ  (un) and means that. The 2nd word is  لَا  (laa) and means never, no or not at all. Combined they mean ‘so that’ or ‘this result is due to the reason that’. A/t/a, ‘from’ and did not’ )
  • تَسۡجُدَ — Tus-jo-da — You submit (= v., pres., s., 2nd person. You bow, carry out direction, humble, obey, prostrate. A/t/a, ‘submitting,’ ‘prostrate yourself’ and ‘prostrating yourself.’ But the past tense in the ‘thou didst … submit’ and ‘thou didst … fall prostrate’ is inaccurate translation of what the Holy Qor-aan ha stated in the present tense)
  • اِذۡ — Iz — When (= At the time or event; call to mind; recall; remember)
  • اَمَرۡتُ — Aa-maur-to — I commanded (= v., past., s., 1st person. Bid; commanded; dictated; directed; instructed; mandated; ordered; told. A/t/a, ‘commanded,’  ‘commanded … (to submit)?’ and ‘bade’)
  • كَ — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You. See كَ above. A/t/a, ‘thee’)
  • قَالَ — Qaa-la — He said (= v., past, s., m., 3rd person. Answered; countered; rejoindered; replied; responded; retorted. A/t/a, ‘He said,’ ‘(Iblis) said’ and ‘Satan said’)
  • اَنَا — Aa-na — I (= pro., pl., 1st person. Us. Refers to the Satan)
  • خَيۡرٌ — Khai-roon — Better (= Absolutely the tops; at apex; best; greatest; highest;  supreme; superior most; the top. Comparatively better, superior or of greater, higher or more value. A/t/a, ‘better’ and ‘nobler’)
  • مِّنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of man. A/t/a, ‘than’)
  • هُ — Ho — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. He. A/t/a, ‘the human being’ and ‘him (Adam)’
  • خَلَقۡتَ — Kha-luq-ta — You created (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Brought into being; created in due and appropriate proportion; designed   from scratch and out of nothing; gave form and faces; produced; shaped. See 003:192. A/t/a, ‘you created,’ ‘Thou didst create,’ ‘Thou hast created,’ ‘Thou createdest’ and ‘you have created’)
  • نِىۡ — Nee — Me (= pro., s., m & f., 1st person. Me, referring to Satan)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among. See  مِّنۡ  above. A/t/a, ‘of’)
  • نَّارٍ  — Naa-rin — Fire (= n., Rapid sustained chemical reaction releasing heat and light. Also, a source for light and heat)
  • وَّ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet. A/t/a, ‘whereas’)
  • خَلَقۡتَ — Kha-luq-ta — You created (= v., past., m., s., 2nd person. Created. See  خَلَقۡتَ  above)

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنٰكُمۡ ثُمَّ صَوَّرۡنٰكُمۡ ثُمَّ قُلۡنَا لِلۡمَلٰۤٮِٕكَةِ اسۡجُدُوۡا لِاٰدَمَ‌ ۖ  فَسَجَدُوۡۤا اِلَّاۤ اِبۡلِيۡسَؕ لَمۡ يَكُنۡ مِّنَ السّٰجِدِيۡنَ

 

Wa  la  qaud  kha-lauq  naa  koom                                                                                                      Thoom-ma  suw-war  naa  koom                                                                                                Thoom-ma  qool-naa  lay  il-ma-laa-aiy-ka-tay  iss-jo-doo                                                          Lay  aa-da-ma  fa  sa-ja-doo  il-laa  ib-lees                                                                                      Lum  ya-koon  may-na  us-saa-jay-dee-n 

 

And We most certainly created you.                                                                              Then We gave you good looks.                                                                                          Then We said to the angels, “Submit to Adam.”                                                                They all submitted except Iblis.                                                                                            He had not been among the submissive.

 

            The text in first three (3) words is in verse 007:011, 007:012 and many others

  • قُل — Qool — Said (= v., past., pl., 1st person: Announced; commanded; told; directed; instructed; mandated; ordered. Specified. See 002:035. A/t/a, ‘told’ and ‘commanded’)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl.,1st person. Us. Used with God’s name it is the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
  • لِ —  Lay … (il) — To (= For the benefit, purpose or reason; on account of; with intent to; with the object of; towards)
  • لِلۡمَلٰٓٮِٕكَةِ  — Ma-laa-aiy-ka-tay..(iss) — Angels (= n., pl., The immortal beings in attendance of Almighty God who execute His commands and do no wrong)
  •  اسۡجُدُوۡا — Iss-jo-doo — Submit (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Be submissive; bow; follow; obey; make obeisance. Literal translation as ‘prostrate’ is not appropriate here because the Almighty God does not order anyone to ‘prostrate’ to anyone else except to ‘Himself.’ A/t/a, ‘Bow down,’ ‘make submission,’ ‘Fall ye prostrate,’ ‘Prostrate yourselves’ and ‘Prostrate yourself’)
  • لِ — Lay — To (= For the benefit or purpose; with intent to; with the  object of; towards. A/t/a, ‘before’ and ‘to’)
  • اٰدَمَ — Aa-da-ma — Adam (= Adam; the name of a Messenger / Prophet of Allah. A/t/a, ‘(the children of) Adam’

  • سَجَدُوۡٓا — Sa-ja-doo — Submitted (= v., past., pl., 3rd person Admitted; became submissive; bowed; followed; obeyed; prostrated; made obeisance. A/t/a, ‘submitted,’ ‘they all submitted,’ ‘They fell prostate’ and ‘prostrated themselves’)
  • اِلَّا — Il-laa — Except (= Apart from; besides; excluding; save; unless. A/t/a, ‘but not,’ ‘but … did not,’ ‘But … (did not),’ ‘not so’ and ‘all save’)
  • اِبۡلِيۡسَ — Ib-lees — Iblis (= Some translators have called Iblees an angel, but most others have translated it as the Satan on the ground that it was not in the nature of angels to disobey God. A/t/a, ‘Iblis (Satan)’ and Satan’)
  • لَمۡ — Lum — Not (= Absolutely never; no, not at all)
  • يَكُنۡ — Ya-koon — Had been (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; used to;  went on; were doing. Words has or had always been indicate endless continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. A/t/a, ‘he was,’ ‘he will … be,’ ‘he refused to be,’ ‘who was,’ ‘he would … be’ and ‘he did not join’)
  • مِّنَ — May-na … (us) — Among (= Among, from or out of the class or category of many articles, counts, kinds, things, persons or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘of’)
  • السّٰجِدِيۡنَ — Saa-jay-dee-n — The submissive (= n., pl., Humble. Obedient. Those who bow, prostrate and live in a lowly fashion, obediently and reverently, not arrogantly or boastfully. A/t/a, ‘who bow down,’  ‘who submit’ and ‘who make prostration.’ But ‘who submitted,’  ‘who prostrated,’ who refused’ and ‘those who prostrated themselves’ which are verbs in the past tense have not translated the noun used in the text of the Holy Qor-aan)

 

Note 007:012. Verses 007:012 to 007:019 have recorded a historical event that shows a conversation between The Almighty GOD and The Satan also known as Iblis.

  • GOD told angels to submit to Man
  • Angels obeyed GOD except Iblis.
  • GOD asked Iblis why he disobeyed.
  • Iblis said he was better since GOD made him from Fire and made Man from mud.
  • GOD told Iblis to get out of there because he was then on dishonored and discarded.
  • Iblis requested for allowance till the Resurrection.
  • GOD allowed that.
  • Iblis argued that GOD had misled him and so retaliatorily he would mislead man from his front and back, right and left so that many men would turn ungrateful.
  • GOD said that He would fill the hell with Satan and all those who had followed him.

وَلَقَدۡ مَكَّـنّٰكُمۡ فِى الۡاَرۡضِ وَجَعَلۡنَا لَـكُمۡ فِيۡهَا مَعَايِشَ ؕ قَلِيۡلًا مَّا تَشۡكُرُوۡنَ

 

Wa  la  qaud  mauk-kaun  naa   koom  fee  il-ur-dzay                                                                    Wa  ja-ul  naa  la  koom  fee  haa  ma-aa-yay-sha                                                                      Qa-le-lun  maa  taush-ko-roo-n

 

And We most certainly had established you in Earth                                                    And set up for you in it means to live.                                                                                Yet little is that you thank.

  • مَّا — Maa — That (= What; whatever; whatsoever. For this and other meanings … See 004:067)
  • تَشۡكُرُوۡنَ — Taush-ko-roo-n — You thank (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Acknowledge with asserted, repeated, insistent and tremendous feelings of being grateful. Appreciate. Express gratitude. Render thanks. Give recognition. See 002:186. A/t/a, ‘the thanks that ye give,’ ‘thanks do you give,’ ‘you give thanks,’ ‘thanks you give,’ ‘you are thankful’ and ‘you are … grateful.’ But translation ‘ye thanks’ is incorrect because English grammar requires using the word thank and not thanks with the subject in second person.

وَمَنۡ خَفَّتۡ مَوَازِيۡنُهٗ فَاُولٰۤٮِٕكَ الَّذِيۡنَ خَسِرُوۡۤا اَنۡفُسَهُمۡ بِمَا كَانُوۡا بِاٰيٰتِنَا يَظۡلِمُوۡنَ

 

Wa  mun  khauf-fut  ma-waa-zee-no  hoo                                                                                          Fa  oo-laa-aiy-ka  ul-la-zee-na  kha-say-roo  un-fo-sa  hoom                                                Bay  maa  kaa-noo  bay  aa-yaa-tay  naa  yauz-lay-moo-n

           

And whoever lightened his scales                                                                                      Then they are those who have lost themselves                                                                  Because they have been wronging Our Sign.

 

                 The text in the following five (5) words in verse 007:010 and 023:104,                    and also in verse 101:009 which has the word اَمَّا in it additionally.

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon. A/t/a, ‘while’ and ‘But’)
  • مَنۡ — Mun — He who (= What; which; whoever. A/t/a, ‘those,’ ‘whose,’ ‘those whose’ and ‘he whose’)
  • خَفَّتۡ — Khauf-fut — Kept light (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Kept light; unloaded with good deeds. But the noun and verb in future or present tense as in ‘will be light,’ ‘are light,’ ‘are light (having no good deeds),’ ‘are light (and their deeds of little account)’ and ‘is light’ have not translated the verb in the past tense that the Holy Qor-aan has used)
  • مَوَٲزِينُ — Ma-waa-zee-no — Scales (= n., pl., Pans of a balance. A/t/a, ‘good deeds,’ ‘scales’ and ‘scales are.’ But the single as in ‘scale will be’ and ‘scale is’ is no good translation of the plural that the Holy Qor-aan has in its text)
  • هٗ — Hoo — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the person who made his scales light. A/t/a, ‘whose’)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= After all this; at the end; consequently. See فَ  above)
  • اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ — O-laa-aiy-ka — All of these (= Acts; facts, items, persons or things. A/t/a, ‘those are they,’ ‘it is they’ ‘such are the ones who,’ ‘Those whose’ and ‘they are’)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ —  Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those articles, persons,  or phenomenon or things in masculine gender. A/t/a, ‘those who’)
  • خَسِرُوۡۤا — Kha-say-roo — Lost (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Destroyed. Harmed in a big way. Ruined. Caused or suffered loss or harm. See 006:141.  A/t/a, ‘who ruined,’ ‘have ruined’ and ‘who have made … suffer losses.’ But the future or present tense as in ‘will find … in perdition,’ ‘shall have ruined,’ ‘shall lose,’ ‘will have lost,’ ‘will lose … (by entering Hell)’ and ‘who lose’ are not a good translation of the past tense used in the text of the Holy Qor-aan)
  • اَنۡفُسَ — Un-fo-sa — Selves (= n., pl., Hearts; individuals; minds; own sake; persons; selves; souls. A/t/a, ‘souls’ and ‘ownselves’)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • بِمَا — Bay-maa — Because (= Combination of two words. بِ  means ‘with / in’ and  مَاۤ   means ‘all that, whatever, whatsoever or whenever. A/t/a, ‘because’ and ‘for’)

But the nouns as in ‘unjust,’ ‘unjust with regard to’ and ‘will have … their disbelief,’ and verbs in the past tense as in ‘they wrongfully treated’, ‘they disbelieved,’ ‘they denied and rejected’ and ‘they have denied’ are no translations of the text of the Holy Qor-aan in a verb in the present tense)

وَالۡوَزۡنُ يَوۡمَٮِٕذِ اۨلۡحَـقُّ‌ ۚ فَمَنۡ ثَقُلَتۡ مَوَازِيۡنُهٗ فَاُولٰۤٮِٕكَ هُمُ الۡمُفۡلِحُوۡنَ

 

Wa  ul-wauz-no   yao-ma-aiy-zay  il-huq-qo                                                                                  Fa  mun  tha-qo-lut  ma-waa-zee-no  hoo                                                                                          Fa  o-laa-aiy-ka  ho-mo  ol-moof-lay-hoo-n

 

The real weight that day is the Truth.                                                                                  So, whoever made his scales heavy                                                                                    Then all of them are the Successful.

 

  • وَ — Wa … (ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally;  but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • الۡوَزۡنُ — Wuz-no — Weight (= n., Bulk; burden; heaviness; heft; load; mass; measure.  A/t/a, ‘The balance’. But verbs in ‘The setting up of scales,’ ‘weighing,’ ‘the weighing (- the judging of deeds),‘ ‘judging’ and ‘shall be weighed’ are not correct translations of the noun that the Holy Qor-aan has used in its text)
  • يَوۡمَٮِٕذِ — Yao-ma-aiy-zi … (l) — That day (= Judgment Day; Day of Accounting and Settlement. A/t/a, ‘on that day (Day of Resurrection) will be’)
  • اۨلۡحَـقُّ‌ ۚ– Ul-huq-qo — The Truth (= n., Appropriateness; equitability; exactness; fairness; just cause; justification; justice; justified conduct; precision; solid, total or absolute reasonableness. A/t/a, ‘true (to a nicety),’ ‘will be just,’ ‘will be a fact,’ ‘with justice’ and ‘the true (weighing)’

                        The next five (5) words are both in verses 007:009 and 023:103                         and also in 101:007 which has the word  اَمَّا  in it additionally.

  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; so; thereafter; therefore; then; thus; yet)
  • مَنۡ — Mun — He who (= Anyone; whoever; whom; whomever; whoso. A/t/a, ‘Those … who,’ ‘Those whose,’ ‘as for those whose’ and ‘whose’)
  • ثَقُلَتۡ — Tha-qo-lut — Made heavy (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Made weigh heavily with  good deeds. A/t/a, ‘will be heavy,’ will be heavy (with good deeds),’ ‘are heavy’ and ‘is heavy’ but verbs in the present or future tenses or singular are no translations of the verb in the past tense which the Holy Qor-aan has used in its text)
  • مَوَٲزِينُ — Ma-waa-zeen-o — Scales (= pl., Measure; pans of balance. A/t/a, ‘scales of (good),’ ‘scales,’ ‘good deeds,’ ‘scale is,’ ‘scales are’ and ‘scales will be’)

  • هُمُ —  Ho-mo … (ol) — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Those men; they; their)
  • الۡمُفۡلِحُوۡنَ — Moof-lay-hoo-n — The Successful (= n., pl., Achievers; champs; prosperous; triumphant; victors; victorious; winners. See Note 002:006. A/t/a, ‘the successful’  and ‘they are successful.’ But verbs in ‘shall prosper,’ ‘will prosper,’ ‘who shall attain their goal,’ ‘ones who will succeed,’ ‘shall triumph’ and ‘they will be the successful (by entering Paradise)’ have not translated what the Holy Qor-aan has used as a noun)

فَلَنَقُصَّنَّ عَلَيۡهِمۡ بِعِلۡمٍ وَّمَا كُنَّا غَآٮِٕبِيۡنَ‏

 

Fa  la  na-qoos-sun-na  alai  him  bay  il-min                                                                              Wa  maa  koon-naa  ghaa-aiy-bee-n

 

Then We will tell them facts with Knowledge                                                              And We have never been absent. 

 

  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; so; thereafter; therefore; then; thus; yet)
  • لَ — La — Certainly (= Absolutely; assuredly; categorically; clearly, definitely doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; positively; really; truly; seriously; sincerely; specifically; surely; verily)
  • نَقُصَّنَّ — Na-qoos-sun-na — We will tell (= v., pres., pl., 1st person. Describe; narrate; relate; state; tell story.   • غَآٮِٕبِيۡنَ — Ghaa-aiy-bee-n — Absent (= n., pl. Those who avoid, become absent, by-pass,    disappear, escape, give a slip, keep away or side-step. A/t/a, ‘absent,’ ‘absent (at any time or place,’ ‘absent (when it came to pass),’ ‘absent (from them when it came to pass’ and ‘watching over all their actions’)

فَلَنَسۡــَٔــلَنَّ الَّذِيۡنَ اُرۡسِلَ اِلَيۡهِمۡ وَلَـنَسۡـَٔـــلَنَّ الۡمُرۡسَلِيۡنَ ۙ ‏

 

Fa  la  naus-aa-laun-na  ul-la-zee-na  oor-say-la  elai  him                                                          Wa  la  naus-aa-laun-na  ul-moor-sa-lee-n

 

Then We surely will interrogate those to whom ** were sent                                And We surely will interrogate those who were sent.

فَمَا كَانَ دَعۡوٰٮهُمۡ اِذۡ جَآءَهُمۡ بَاۡسُنَاۤ اِلَّاۤ اَنۡ قَالُوۡۤا اِنَّا كُنَّا ظٰلِمِيۡنَ‏

 

Fa  maa  kaa-na  dau-waa  hoom  iz  jaa-aa  hoom  bau-so  naa                                              Il-laa  un  qua-loo  in-naa  koon-naa  zaa-lay-mee-n

 

Then their claim was nothing, when Our punishment struck them,                  Except that they said, “Most definitely have been the wrongdoers.”

وَكَمۡ مِّنۡ قَرۡيَةٍ اَهۡلَـكۡنٰهَا فَجَآءَهَا بَاۡسُنَا بَيَاتًا اَوۡ هُمۡ قَآٮِٕلُوۡنَ

 

Wa  kum  min  qur-ya-tin  ah-luk  naa  haa                                                                                      Fa  jaa  aa  haa  bau-so  naa  ba-yaa-ton  auo  hoom  qaa-aiy-loo-n

 

And how many from a village were that We destroyed them                                      Since Our wrath befell them sleeping at night or napping in daytime.

  • اَوۡ — Auo — Or (= Alternatively; in substitution. A/t/a, ‘or while’ and ‘while’)

  • قَآٮِٕلُوۡنَ — Qua-aiy-loo-na — Napping (= n., pl. Those people who were having an afternoon nap which is a sign of comfortable care-free living enjoyed by the rich people. اِتَّبِعُوۡا مَاۤ اُنۡزِلَ اِلَيۡكُمۡ مِّنۡ رَّبِّكُمۡ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوۡا مِنۡ دُوۡنِهٖۤ اَوۡلِيَآءَ‌ ؕ قَلِيۡلًا مَّا تَذَكَّرُوۡنَ‏

 

It-ta-bay-oo  maa  oon-zay-la  elai  koom  min  rub-bay  koom                                                  Wa  laa  tut-ta-bay-oo  min  doo-nay  he  auo-lay-yaa-aa                                                        Qa-le-lun  maa  ta-zauk-ka-roo-n

 

Follow what was entrusted to you from your GOD                                                    And follow not  many friends other than Him.                                                                Little is what you remember.
